Would you pay $35 for a movie ticket?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
How plush would a movie theater have to be for you to fork over $35 for your entry? According to Variety, the luxury circuit Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas is ready over the next five years to build 50 theaters, most with eight screens, across the country, each with 40 reclining armchair seats with footrests, digital projection, the capability for 3-D movies and a lounge and bar serving cocktails and appetizers. Oh, and there will be a concierge and valet parking.
There’s more: made-to-order meals like sushi and a call button you can push to summon a waiter.
Food would be extra, of course, but the basic ticket price would be $35.
Two theaters are expected to open this year near Chicago and Seattle and others are planned for a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb and Scottsdale, Ariz. Other theaters would be built in California, Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania and New York. There’s no mention of metro Atlanta yet.
Here’s my problem: I can’t think of a new Hollywood movie I’d want to see enough to cause me to want to spend $35.
But the company’s idea is to lure in monied public who normally just watch movies at home.
Is that you? Would you go to a theater that charges $35 per ticket?
