Oscar’s best visual effects? … Give it to ‘300’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Seven films are in the final running for three nomination slots for the Academy Award for best visual effects.
The movies are “The Bourne Ultimatum,” “Evan Almighty,” “The Golden Compass,” “I Am Legend,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” “300” and “Transformers.”
I love “Bourne” but outside of having one of the greatest fight scenes ever on film most of its effects, to me, seem to involve flinging a camera in different directions.
“Evan Almighty” was just an all-around bad movie.
Apparent shoo-ins for two of the three nominations appear to be “Pirates” and “Transformers.”
What’s less a given is which movie will take the third spot.
I’d suggest Oscar’s visual effects branch, which will be deciding next week who gets nominated in this category, take a good long look at “300.” In my mind, it’s the 2007 film that made the most compelling visual statement.
Nominations in all categories will be announced Jan. 22.
What film from last year do you think had the best visual effects? Who should compete for the Oscar?

Hands down ‘I Am Legend’, Transformers and then Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. I have seen them all more than three times as I usually do. 1st, to enjoy, 2nd, is there errors that I see and 3rd, technical errors like shadows and misplaced props. It just my little pass time hobby. All three movies were great!!!!!

The Oscar goes to whoever makes Hillary look good on the campaign trail.
