So don’t go see it WTF. Save you money for, oh I don’t know, “Enchanted” or something equally insipid and boring.

The movie is rated NC-17, not PG. I would expect anyone going to se the movie would have some clue as to what to expect. So Ang Lee decided to make a movie (which sounds like it actually has an interesting plot) that shows what typical Hollywood movies allude to. Given the sex scenes in R rated moives nowandays,not to mention the graphic violence shown, I’m curious to see what more Lee could show to garner a NC-17 rating.

Oh my GOD, I can’ believe they’d put sex in a film in America!? Why don’t they stick to what Americans REALLY want… skull smashing, gut ripping, limb twisting, blood spattering, senseless violence!? Of course Atlanta is ready … why wouldn’t we be? The more graphic the better. Americans are such pansies about this sort of thing anyway. If it offends you, you don’t have to go. The bigger problem this film will have is that it is competing with online porn. Why would you pay $8.00 to see this movie in two weeks when you can see the same thing (maybe better) for free online in ten seconds with a couple of mouse clicks?

It’s typical that regressive, neocon, Rethuglicon voters will just see this as more sex from the perverts in Hollywood, but will NEVER soil themselves by actually seeing the movie. That would just let facts get in the way of their delusions. Personally, I’d love to see it, but not for the sex. That’s just a metaphorical method to convey the larger issue of using a subversive tactic to make changes. I’m quite sure there were women that have slept with generals and their aides just to get secret information.

This further points out why the ratings system is such a screwed up mess. It rewards people that produce mindless blood & guts fare, but punishes people that try to make truly original and insightful movies. As long as the theocratic, racist Rethuglicons are running the government, this won’t change. When you vote Rethuglicon, you vote against your own best interests.

How can anyone willingly promote such pure filth. It is an assault against the pure, honest American values that we cherish. It flies in the face of good, decent Christians in this country and should be banned. This is the type of smut that causes the Muslims to think America is a filthly, vile country. If we could eliminate this liberal garbage from our society and return to true, Christian values, we wouldn’t be so hated in the world. We are seen as promoting this sort of degrading, immoral filth and are hated for it; when in reality it is the liberal media and the “mainstream” hollywood trash-makers that are soiling our reputation. There needs to be a stop put to this nonsense! This type of film should be illegal and it’s makers should be criminally prosecuted.

Keith — first off, Michael Vick should be executed for his crimes against humanity. Yes, animal cruelty is a crime against humanity in my opinion as it shows a sociopathic tendency that can lead to escalating levels of violence and anti-social behaviour.

Secondly - “wake up” - I am not denfending radical Islam. I personally think we should lay the nuclear option on the table and finish this war once and for all. However, if we don’t admit to ourselves that their hatred of us is justified in that what they perceive us to be is nothing more than a group of pornopgraphers and blasphemous heathens, then we are fooling ourselves. Their perceptions are guided by the most prevelant depicitons out of our country — the media, mainly the cinema (if you can call the trash that Hollywood produces these days cinema). The trashy, sexual and violent movies that are produced by our country do give rise to concern that perhaps we have lost our moral compass. That, my friend, is where I was going. Not defending radical Islam, but merely pointing out that if we don’t stop this nonsense of allowing these perverts to make their movies in our country then we are giving fuel to the fire of terrorism; and it is already a raging inferno.

I don’t have a problem with Ang Lee’s film. I don’t know if I will go see it or not but I respect and defend his right to make such a film. Hollywood (which Mr.Lee operates outside of) is all out of ideas. It seems like every movie that comes out of Hollywood is either a remake of an old movie or a TV show; based on video game or comic book; a horror gorefest; or a stupid mindless rom-com. All of Mr.Lee’s films are a welcome distraction from the usual crap trickling out of Hollywood these days. As for Alexis— everyone is bored with being called unAmerican simply because they don’t like Bush. That tactic failed years ago. I am surprised you trotted out that old, tired horse of an insult. That’s a dumb question, but I’ll bite. SURE. No one is being forced to see the film. If you want it, go see it. If it’s offensive, don’t go see it. Good art doesn’t have to be in good taste, anyway.

Sex and violence is much more raw and explicit in other countries (mostly Europe and Asia); and I don’t see them falling apart over it.

BCR, we are bringing Democracy to a dictatorship, liberating the Iraqi people from decades of opression under a cruel dictator and spreading the values of honest, hard work and faith. President Bush and his administration have toppled regimes of evil and brought freedom and liberty to people who never could have even spoke those words for fear of being tortured and executed and buried in a mass grave by their evil dictators. Saddam Hussein was finally brought to justice and executed thanks to the tireless efforts of President Bush and our troops, and had it not been for this administration that evil man would still be breathing and plotting against freedom.
