‘Dreamgirls’ Oscar nightmare

Soooooo, “Dreamgirls” was supposed to be one of the front-runners for best picture and it didn’t even get nominated (or for best director either). Any theories as to what happened?

Remember this is a subjective process. I like what I like and don’t take this process that seriously.

The movie shot itself in the foot when they let overrated Jennifer Hudson have that annoying solo piece during the movie. It was so horrible that I went to the bathroom, while she was singing that annoying song, and when I came back, she was still caterwauling. Too bad, Dreamgirls, you gambled on a 7th place American Idol loser, who might end up with “Best Supporting Actress”. She’s a front-runner, yet so was “Dreamgirls” for “Best Picture”, so don’t beleive the hype. Dreamgirls was overrated period.

L - You certainly don’t know anything about talent or singing. Jennifer is who made the movie. That has been the only consistent critic of the movie. And yes I think Dreamgirls should have gotten an Oscar nomination….the movie was great. Can’t wait until the DVD hits the stores.

L, You should have stayed in the bathroom. The movie was excellant as were the costumes, sets, preformances, soundtrack. You obviously are not acclimated to the African-American culture as “Dreamgirls” is a classic and contains one of the greatest R&B songs of all time. That would be the song that Jennifer Hudson preformed in the movie. Gratefully she was not deterred by one person’s ignorance, Simon of American Idol, and forged ahead to recieve her just due. You on the other hand will be sitting on the stool when she recieves her Oscar.

I thought that “Dream Girls” was an excellent movie. Those in the theater when I attended, gave applause throughtout the movie. This didn’t happen when I went to see ” Chicago”. And that’s my problem, if “Chicago” received a nod for best picture, why not “Dream Girls”? It was just as well done and twice as entertaining.

HERE WE GO AGAIN. This is redundent with the previous Oscar question, so I will post the same response:

WOW I can’t believe the distress over something so obvious… that a movie with some strong performances wasn’t an overall best picture quality movie. There are movies every year that fit this mold.

The movie got 8 nominations, look up snub and see the “opposite of” and that’s where this movie will be listed.

L,You are probably as tone deaf as the current contestants on American Idol. Evidently, you did not know anything about the movie prior to seeing it. The movie was great, Jennifer was even better. Stay in bathroom and keep your comments in there too.

The acting in “Dream Girls” was good, sometimes great, but as previously stated: that does not make it a Best Picture-worthy nominee. The directing was stilted and awkward at times and the editing was choppy…too many long pauses that didn’t add to the story, it just looked like someone forgot to yell “Cut”. So, NO, it wasn’t shafted. The people who deserved the nominations got them. Who knew we’d be seeing Axel Foley up on the top-nod list? Good luck Eddie!! We’re rooting for you!

Movie not worthy of comment. Why the feelings and assumptions that because it is an “African American” (by the way, there should be no such thing - - either you are from America or Africa — not both!) movie that it should be given preferential treatment is beyond me. Was poorly done, in the scheme of “GREAT” movies.

The biggest surprise is that Dreamgirls had three Oscar-Nominated songs. The music was horrific!!!!! Good film, but not “oscar-worthy”. Not by the longest of shots. And to get an accurate guage of what the public thinks of Dreamgirls. Just look at the Box-Office receipts. When factored for inflation, the final box-office numbers for Dreamgirls will pale compared to Chicago, or Grease.

Yeah…Oscars are too classy to let that ghetto pig Beyonce have a chance at being in a movie considered the best
