The Wait Begins

The tents are down. The beach chairs are out.

And a junk-food buffet has emerged.

Boxes of doughnuts, pizzas are stacked on tables and the sodium fumes of MacDonald’s fills the air outside the theater.

Many of the campers were awoken by leaf blowers at 7 a.m. Others have now joined them in the line, while the wimpier members of the crew left to shower and refresh.

Their place in line is secure.

“If they camped out they have their place,” Letendre said.

The theater is being extremely kind, allowing the crowd to use electrical outlets to plug in televisions, computers and electronic games.

The real question: how to kill the next 12-plus hours?

“I’m easily amused,” said Tom Weldon, 37, of Atlanta, who spent the night sleeping in the parking lot in a Toyota Prius.

His solution: a deck of Texas Hold’Em cards.

Will someone please explain why anyone would camp outside a movie theater when most of the metro theaters are selling advance tickets online??
