Or “how many people in the technical fields can we humiliate into leaving the business tonight??” Dag, it’s tough not to feel sorry for all the folks up there who aren’t winning. It’s definitely got that fifth grade awards assembly vibe. You know, the one where you DIDN’T win for “Best Lunchroom Gag Involving a Mostly Full Chocolate Milk Carton, a Ruler, an Eraser and a Trapper Keeper.” Or is that us projecting again?……

I imagine they were trying to save time, to avoid all the stops along the way to hug folks in the aisles. It also gives the message to lesser awardees that if you win, you are the only one that gets to be up on stage - no bringing all 17 of your co-workers with you.
