Why care about ‘Star Wars — Revenge of the Sith’?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In Friday’s Movies & More for Feb. 4, Eleanor Ringel Gillespie and I will be talking about the five movies for 2005 we’re anticipating the most.
Guess what! ‘Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith’ isn’t one of ‘em.
Are we wrong? I feel pretty strongly that we’re not.
Since ‘Return of the Jedi,’ George Lucas has been slowly but surely destroying his credibility as the creator of an ‘almost’ monumental adventure series. He totally alienated fans with the recent DVD package of the first films that failed to include the original theatrical releases, but consisted only of the inferior ‘special editions.’
Like the two latest films, ‘Sith’ appears like it’s going to be all CG, all boring dialogue and all the same lame drama.
It does beg the question: Why care about ‘Star Wars — Revenge of the Sith’?

Why Care? Why Care? This is his LAST chance to get things right.
I never forgave Darth Vader for blowing up that planet with the Death Star. He’s worse than Hitler and watching him grow up as a good guy in the prequels has not been a treat.
In Sith, he goes crazy and kills all the other Jedi’s except Obi Wan and Yoda. It could be awesome.
I think his first step into the dark side shouold be by blowing Jar Jar’s head off with a blaster. The audience will burst into applause, then realize they are cheering on the dark side.

To ask the question, “Is it worth it” is different than, “Does it stink.” Is it worth it. YES! Does the script stink- if it’s like episodes 1 and 2- YES! But “worth” assumes value, and like it or not, Star Wars is a valuable “myth” for those of us who grew up to love the story behind the crappy script.
Star Wars is about the story and for those of us who love the story, getting past the script is merely an inconvenience we have to put up with.
I do agree that Lucas hung himself with the scripts the last two go arounds- with all of the good writers out there, you’d think he’d try to match that of Lord of the Rings and other smash hits. Wouldn’t be awesome if he collaborated with Q. Territino? Now that would be a film both worth it AND committed to quality!
