12/11: Albums sales, most popular “Idol” search terms

Sorry. I’ve had a strange day and didn’t get around to finishing my daily “Idol” blog entry. This is all I have before I leave for the day. May update this or start a new one for the new day.

I haven’t updated download and album sales from Idol Chatter.

Here’s a quick summary:

Carrie Underwood “Just a Dream is at 84 on the download chart with 443K total. (It’s on the country “recurrent” chart for older songs on Radio & Records. Not a single “Idol” is on the top 50 of the country chart!) Her latest album is at No. 53 and is nearly 2.5 million in sales.

David Cook He remains in the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200, selling another 87K and 479K total. The single “Light On” is at No. 60 with 298K total in download sales. On the top 40 chart, it’s up to 25.

David Archuleta “Crush” is now at 28, dropping slowly off the top 40 chart. The single is the top “Idol” song on the download chart at No. 32 and 1.12 million sold.

Jordin Sparks Gotta wonder if a fourth single is forthcoming or not. I haven’t heard. “No Air” is now at 112 with 2.61 million sold total while “One Step At a Time” is at 113 with 1.02 million sold total. Her album is now down to 199 on the Billboard chart with 5K sold for the week and 955K total. That coveted 1 million mark may take awhile but she might eke it out in a couple of months.

Jennifer Hudson Her album was at 72, with 489K sold so far and 11K last week. She should 500K this week. The single tumbled to 143 w/ 9K sold and 332 total.

-Amazingly, Clay Aiken is in the top 10 on the Lycos searches of the year, ranked No. 7. He has always been a popular search term but who would think he’d continue to hold this much appeal? (The “I’m gay” pronouncement probably fueled things a bit this year.). What’s even funnier: who are the five folks who still use Lycos (top 10 searches on Lycos: Poker, Paris Hilton, YouTube, golf, Sarah Palin, Britney Spears, Aiken, Pamela Anderson, Facebook & Holly Madison). Among TV shows, “Idol” fell to fifth.

-On Google’s Zeitgeist David Cook came in No. 9 in “fastest rising” search terms. Then again, before January 2008, David Cook was not a celebrity so this is kind of silly.

“American Idol” was the top TV show searched, ahead of “Lost,” “SNL” and “The Office.” Among reality shows, it was tops as well, ahead of “Brig Brother,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and “The Hills.”

AI ahead of Lost and SNL, proof that talk of AI’s demise is a bit premature. Thanks for the numbers Rodney.

What refreshing stats, Rodney. I’m not suprised that CA is still a popular former idol. As I have stated on here before, I liked Clay in the beginning and like him even more now. He is one that I would pay to go see.

Again, no suprise that AI is the top show. It will be interesting to see how their ratings will hold up this season with all the changes that have been made. It will probably stay at #1 unless the changes do more harm than good, and I really hope that will not be the case. As in everything, some changes are good and work for the better, while others not so much. We will just have to wait and see how the ratings turn out.

Clay is in the top 10 for lycos searches because his loony fans spam lycos for that exact purpose. They want to make people think he’s still a big star and lycos is their chosen search engine, probably because they know they can’t make a dent on google or yahoo search. Clay’s fansites have threads devoted to pushing this idea of lycos spamming. It’s bizarre.

Good Morning Bloggesters. Hope you all had a good evening in spite of the rain and a safe drive into work this morning. I know it was nasty out. I left my house at 4:40am and got to the office around 6:35. Long and wet drive, but I’m safe.

Is everyone ready for Christmas, with all your shopping done, wrapped and under the tree? If not, Christmas will be here before you know it, so go and spend some more money and make someone happy.

Okay, I admit that I’m in a happy mood today. Don’t know why, just feel very happy and I’m trying to pass a little good cheer around. Hope it works!!!!!!!

Morning!

I’m all rained out. I know we need it but…enough is enough!

D, I am with you, girlfriend! I have had enough rain. As for Christmas, I usually have a real tree, but I have had too much to do to get it yet. That is first on my agenda for Saturday. Christmas trees have always been a big deal in my family, with an almost ceremonial atmosphere surrounding the decorating.

Morning all, shopping is done, but we haven’t gotten a tree yet. We will go cut one down this weekend.

JT You must have beautiful pines and fir trees in your part of the country. We used to cut our own trees when the kids lived with us. Now we use a live tree and plant it on the ranch when the season is over(and they say conservatives don’t care about the environment…feh!):-)

I wish I had my shopping done.

I’ve got to climb up in the attic to see if we saved the tree lights from last year before we get a real or put up the “fake” one this year! December seems to be flying past us. I love the smell of the real Christmas tree in the house tho, so I’m leaning that way.

Tree lights! So much fun! (where’s that sarcasm emoticon)

since the boys have left, hubby and I decorate the tree by putting Christmas music on the radio and making a good stiff drink….it goes a lot easier that way!

Woodpappy, you have to go real! It’s just not New Years day if you aren’t picking up a ton of needles from the tree. Heck, for some it’s not Valentines Day if you aren’t picking up a ton of needles from the tree.

Deirdre, I like your method for decorating the tree, but with a 3&1/2 year old I’m stuck for a while with the big tree, fully decorated.

I know we need the rain, but enough…plus, we need it spread out - it really doesn’t do a lot of good when it all comes down at one time and leaves us for months….oh well.

We have fake trees in my house. I am allergic….but I have to say I LOVE MY FAKE TREE!!!! It is a beautiful tree! Plus, it comes in 3 pieces and it is already lit - how freakin’ awesome is that!? Just put together, plug it in, fluff some branches and your are ready to hang your ornaments!!!

yuk

rain is hitting here right now, hard. bleh. i agree, Lara, we need the rain but why oh why can’t it just rain for a few hours late every night? with the occasional day thrown in for variety… instead of buckets and buckets of rain that drown things, then nothing for long stretches so that you forget what rain even looks like. bleh.

My father used to take us out into the woods every year—four little kids bundled up against the cold—and cut down a tree. Of course, living in the city these days almost precludes that exercise, unless one has a friend in a rural area. Cedars were the tree of choice in those days, and I still get one every year or so. They are the most fragrant. I am always in charge of stringing the lights, so, D, I know what you mean. But, I insist on it being a one-person job. That way nobody gets on my nerves and ruins the spirit of the task. We always recycle our tree after New Year’s Day.

we always buy a live tree, usually fairly small, most frequently the leyland cypress, and then plant it in the yard after christmas — our first one was almost 20 years ago, and i made the mistake of planting it next to the house (about 10 feet out) by the driveway….the thing is twice as tall as the house now, and we’ve had to cut off the bottom limbs so we can get a car in past it, but it’s gorgeous!

I don’t know that I’ve seen many cedar Christmas trees, or cypress for that matter. I value cedar for my fireplace, which is my typical method of tree recycling.

Morning from SoCal blog friends and Happy Holidays. Sounds like everyone is getting into the holiday spirit except for the rain. They are prediciting rain here all next week with temps in the 50’s. BRRR..that’s cold for us folks used to 70’s in December. The weather may put a damper on our annual trek to Disneyland this year. Have to see the “Mouse”. The “Happiest Place on Earth” may not be so happy if it’s cold and rainy. We’ll just take the poncho’s. I purchased a new “fake” tree this year and it is beautiful. Came flocked with snow, pre-it and with pine cones and berries. The pine cones made me a bit homesick for my native Georgia. Anyway, the tree is decorated, the gifts are purchased, wrapped and under the tree. I’m just waiting for Santa. And yes, I’ve been a really good girl this year. Again, Happy Holidays to one and all!!!!

It’s hinting at clearing up at my house. Every now and then a patch of blue shows through the clouds.

Actually, this year will be the first time hubby won’t be home for Christmas. He’s had holidays where he shows up during the day and holidays where he has to leave late in the day but he won’t be home at all this year. He will make a brief appearance on the 26th, then back to work. But the boys will be here and we’ll have a lot of fun.

Even tho we have no kids at home, we decorate every inch of the yard and inside. I usually have three trees inside, mantle fully decorated with 12 stockings hanging, a Christmas fireplace screen, dinning room and kitchen tables, end tables, coffee table. And, this is just the tip. Now outside is another story. Our whole house is outlined in lights, 2 sets of santa/reindeers, train, Mickey/Minnie,and other figures, full nativity set, both sides of the driveway lines with canes w/clear lights, all the trees, bushes, mailbox all lit. Think you get the picture. Alot of hard work but well worth it when I see a child’s face light up. That makes it worth while.

GAgirl…I’ll have to warn my son about the change in the weather. He’ll probably like it because he likes cooler weather(so why is he living in SoCal, you might ask)

Hey GAgirl. Sounds like you’re all ready for Christmas. Wished I were going to see the mouse. A few years back, hubby and I took 2 of the grandkids to Orlando for Thanksgiving. I think everyone had the same idea. Crowded was not the word. Had to still in line for 3 hours for one ride. Still, we had fun. Saw the Christmas parade and that in itself was worth the trip. Maybe your trip will turn out nice.

D: You and hubby can celebrate the day after or before he leaves. Make it a special day for you and him.

Nana, it’s the same way at Disneyland. Hopefully it won’t be too crowded for us since we are going in the middle of the week and before school is out for the holidays. I agree about the parade. D, give your son a heads up…it’s supposed to be really nasty next week. He and I are practically neighbors..about 25 miles apart….

I’ll tell him, GAgirl….I had to tell him that the Santa Ana’s were blowing again a few days ago. He’s oblivious to the local news.

GAgirl, hopefully your trip won’t be crowded. I swore that I would never go to DW on a holiday again!! The last time we went, hubby and I had my daughter, her hubby and their 7 y/o twins. Three days before we left, I tripped at work and broke my foot so I was in a cast and on crutches. That was really okay, b/c we went to the head of the line on every ride. Now, that’s the way to go to DW.

OMG!! I see Mr. Sunshine peeking around the clouds.

What if some of that snow that is south of us makes an appearance here later and accumulates just a little??? I think it would be fun as long as it was not too much or didn’t last too long, I don’t want to get cabin fever or make the customary bread, milk run.

My work day is nearly over so I will be headed home in a few. Ya’ll take care, be safe, happy and drive careful.

Will catchya later…………..

Up to 2 inches of snow predicted here over the weekend! That should be enough to shut the whole area down.
