11/28: Season eight David Cook promo, Idols concert coming to Athens, Clay Aiken on Rosie
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and recovered from food overload.
Here’s the David Cook “Idol” promo. This is the first time “Idol” has ever used a past winner to promote the new season.
The “Rosie Live” variety show special on NBC was a huge bust Wednesday in ratings, drawing just 5 million viewers. But there was a funny sequence with Clay Aiken where he jokes with her about his sexuality. They note what they have in common (both have sons named Parker and started on reality shows), including the fact they both love… “Gabrielle Byrne.” It’s funny.
Four “Idol” contestants are teaming up for a holiday concert that is hitting 17 cities. The four are Kimberley Locke, former Atlantan Diana DeGarmo, David Hernandez and Chikezie Ezie. They are coming to Athens’ Classic Center December 5 and 6. More info here.
You can buy tix here.. They range from $10 in the back to $70 in the pit.

Thanks for the news regarding Rosie’s variety show. I can see why it did not do so well after watching that bit with Clay.
The Idol’s holiday concert has a good line up, both David and Chikezie had great voices and should have gone further than they did. You also can’t go wrong with Diana.

The bit with Clay was one of the better parts. Too bad he didn’t sing.

While I did not particularly enjoy the Clay segment because I think he is better than what was shown. I give him credit for being able to to make fun of himself and not take all this too seriously. He is still talented and a man with a big heart.

The Clay bit was funny. Too bad they did not have him sing while he was there.

Thanks for your article. I loved seeing Clay on the show, just wished he would have sung. I love his voice. Clay is so talented, he sings beautifully and is incredible in Spamalot. He has a big heart and does so much for charities. I like Rosie and I wish her show had done better.
I would love to see Diana DeGarmo, David Hernandez and Chikezie in concert.

Clay was wonderful. He’s not only a talented singer and actor with great charisma but has a big heart.

It’s really strange how entertainers will wait until they are famous and rich, before they come out of the closet. Ellen, Rosie, Clay, Rock Hudson and Wanda Sykes have made so much money on fans who loved what they did, that they never have to work again for the rest of their life. Did you see that gorgeous house that Clay lives in.

Rodney, Thanks for the u-tube of the Rosie/Clay skit. Smart comedy, subtle and cleaver.
Sorry the show didn’t work out.

dell,
What difference does it make, really? If you like someone for their talent…being gay isn’t going to change the talent. It reeks of fear and prejudice. Honestly, not trying to be rude, but sexuality doesn’t have anything to do with how talented and able to entertain a person is. Boggles my mind….
As to Clay, his time was almost wasted on Rosie…he should have sang. Heck, Harry Connick should have sang more, and most of the “skits” needed to be lost.
Rosie was way too nervous and tried too hard. Too bad…a decent string of specials with variety would be fun about now instead of the same insipid “music” award shows we’ve been getting.
YMMV

I never realized that Clay suffered from cardiomegaly. Interesting.

Speaking of that Idol Christmas tour, the 4 of them performed on The Early Show yesterday. CBS seems to have only put up one performance. It’s a duet with Diana and David singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. They look and sound great together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX5TVAzditA

Good monday morning, blogsters. I did not watch the Rosie special….was not really interested. Sorry it did not do well. I wish I could get through to Q100 when they are giving away tickets to Miracle on West Peachtree Street!!! Has anyone on this blog been able to win tickets?
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend. I did, up until Saturday afternoon….

Good morning, Lara. I did have a nice Thanksgiving. Sorry, but I do not live in Atlanta any longer, so I can’t give any insight about the tickets. As for Rosie, I can do without her act lately. It ‘s funny because my mother and I used to watch her talk show religiously every single day and loved her then. They used to call her the “Queen of Nice.” Can you imagine that now? I hate that she has become this cariciture. She was genuinely funny and such a gracious host, displaying her love for Broadway, and telling wonderful stories.

Morning!
What a nice holiday! I even enjoyed Saturday afternoon! :-) And the Falcons game was pretty good too.
Lara, sorry but I haven’t heard of anybody winning those tickets.
As for Rosie…if she’d just let her petty grievances go she might have had a bigger audience. It’s been well over a year since she left The View and she’s STILL complaining.

morning blogsters! quiet at our household all weekend… especially saturday night… no ringing bells, no loud partiers… i think most folks just went to bed and hid under the covers.
didn’t watch Rosie, couldn’t make myself suffer that much.
hope everyone is recovering nicely from their tryptofan doses … we went with a ham this year instead of turkey, so i avoided at least that much, LOL.
lots to do, catch you later!

D, this was the first Thanksgiving in recent memory when everything could not have been more perfect, food-wise and otherwise. In the past, something wasn’t done in time, or cooked enough, etc. This year it went off without a hitch. Glad you had a good one.
