11/7: David Archuleta album reviews, Idol starts up January 13, 2009

The David Archuleta album reviews are starting to trickle in. These two are so-so.

The Salt Lake Tribune gives it a B-minus:

This isn’t an album that takes risks. Archuleta is to be commended for co-writing two songs, but those sound more filler than killer, with lyrics that settle for platitudes. But then again, who are we to look for answers for the meaning of life from a 17-year-old from Murray?

Entertainment Weekly gave it a C-plus:

On American Idol’s seventh season, David Archuleta had some personality — something you’ll struggle to remember while taking in this bland, amnesia-inducing collection.

His liner notes got on for 3,500 words. He’s truly a thankful teen!

As he told ew.com: “I completely ramble, even in my interviews or just explaining things. And I didn’t want to forget anyone! Gives you something to talk about, I guess.”

Here’s a USA Today story about him with the album due out Tuesday.

His take on the media onslaught against his dad:

“That was rough,” the younger Archuleta says. The uproar was “rude and weird, because my dad is so laid-back. There are still people who think he’s abusing me or something. I don’t think they realize I’m almost 18.”

-Season eight of “American Idol” starts on January 13 and 14, both two-hour extravaganzas. We’ll get our first look at Kara Dioguardi!

-Here’s a quick overview of how the “Idols” did last week in sales and airplay

David Archuleta sees his single stuck at 13 on the Radio & Records top 40. Idol Chatter provides the download and sales data: “Crush” is the top-selling download, moving 56K last week and now is up to 861K total.

Jordin Sparks sees her single “One Step at a Time” drop from 10 to 17 and 38 to 43 in download sales, moving 27K and 931K total. “No Air” sold another 11K and 2.38 million. Her album moves another 4K and is up to 945K. It’s going to be a slow slog to 1 million at this rate unless she gets a fourth hit out of the album.

Jennifer Hudson saw sales go up to 32K, partially from all the sad news. She dropped to 14 because of all the new albums. She is up to 387K. She’ll breach 500K easily. The single sells another 20K and 260K total. “Spotlight” drops from 6 to 8 in the urban charts.

David Cook’s “Time of My Life” single drops out of the top 40 and “Light On” has yet to break the chart. “Light On” falls to 66 from 35, with 19K sold and 208K total. “Time” moves another 10K and 980K total.

Carrie Underwood’s “Just a Dream” remains at No. 1 for a second week, soon to be superseded by either Taylor Swift or Atlanta’s own Zac Brown Band. Download sales move 18K and 328K total. Her latest album sells 11K for the week and 2.4 million total.

Daughtry’s “What About Now” falls from 28 to 30 with sales of 10K and 451K total. His album falls out of the top 100 for the first time to 102 with 5K and 4.27 mil.

Bucky Covington’s “I’ll Walk” edges up to 11 on the country chart.

Kristy Lee Cook’s “15 Minutes of Shame” is up to 28 from 30 on the country chart.

Josh Gracin’s “Unbelievable” edges up to 36 from 39.

Interesting reviews, I’m curious as to what the David A. faithful will think of those grades. I’m sure we will hear soon enough!

Thanks for the info, Rodney. I am ready for Idol but I realize that getting through the holidays first is probably the right way to go.

True, JT…I give ‘em 5 minutes…tops!

Not good grades on Archie. Although the media is giving poor grades, his loyal fans will pull him up.

I’m with you GAgirl on the country boys.

I’m emerging from my mourning period now. I’m back! JTesla , you can not corrupt me, I was already corrupted on last seasons nightshift.

I don’t watch Oprah anymore, I don’t want to know who they endorse and have it constantly force fed to me. Celebrities are no better than anyone else, I can make my own informed decisions.

I will hold the new administration and president to the same standards that all their prdecessors have been held to. With that being said, I wish him well, hope he does good things for us. I will be the first to say he has done good or bad . At present I reserve judgement until he has actually served some time or handled a crisis.

DWTS- I think it is going to be close, the final three will be Warren ,Brook, and I think Maurice. with those three ,I won’t be disappointed with the winner.

Brooke seems like a shoo-in, but Warren is so incredibly light for someone his size… and he’s so freaking PLEASANT, LOL!

and oh-so-much-better Zac Brown than Taylor Swift. I’m sorry. She just sounds so whiney-ordinary!!! shrug

Well one last tidbit of Idol + Election news, I read via The Superficial (which btw has the best pictures of Kim Kardashian on the web) that it was reported in People that since the election went the way that it did, Paula Abdul will not have to move to Vancouver. I’m assuming Vancouver BC, but knowing Paula she may have thought Vancouver Washington would have been just as good.

Can we ship her off to a foreign country anyway?

My honest opinion on those two archie album reviews: they are both Cook fans and I am not even sure they listened to the album. If you go to the EW review, it really is a non review. That same guy did a fabulous and reasonably intelligent interview with Cook. The Salt Lake Tribune guy should have done at least a better review because it is David’s hometown, but because he got several important details wrong, such as that his next single is Angels, I can’t take his review seriously. IMO the album really is even better than fans thought it would be, and it is getting many fantastic reviews, such as the one from billboard. I hope you guys really will go check out the album and make the decision for yourself, even if it isn’t your kind of music. 97.1 radio station and many others have it on demand (at least the main 12 songs).

Also, check out the great top 10 photo shoot at elle.com.

Oh be honest Linda. You won’t take any review seriously if the reviewer doesn’t act like David is the second coming. Face it, not everybody will think David Archuleta is the bestest and most special singer to come along in the last 100 years and that doesn’t mean they are Cook fans or lack credibility. And just because the person didn’t go to the Archie forums to confirm the actual second single doesn’t make them less credible either. Not everybody is going to love Boy Wonder. It’s not a conspiracy against him or his nutty fans.

Gee, Harmony…thanks for the after-thought! :-) It’ll be nice to have you blogging again kiddo!

As for the Archie reviews…I’m just not going there.

Luckily Archie’s main goal isn’t positive reviews. I’ll wait until the $ numbers come in. Like the hokey pokey, that’s what it’s all about.

I love the Falcons!!!

Honestly, I didn’t know that I had been missing from the blog. Most days I only had one short little post, usually irrelevant to the blog topic. I will try from now on to do my fair share of blogging.

I am not an Archuleta fan but I do wish him the best. I am sure that the teeny bopper fans will buy it.

Heather, your sarcastic and nasty comment was not necessary. Of course all of the reviews won’t be good. Everyone has their own opinion. It was just obvious that these two have a bias and spent little time on making a credible review.

JTesla- you are right. That’s what its all about.

I wish David Cook the best in his release next week.

Good Morning to all bloggers. Hope everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather we had.

Looks like not much went on over the weekend, so maybe all of you were out enjoying the weather.

Morning!

How about those Falcons! That was a fun game. And the ‘bama/LSU game was a scorcher, too!

Linda, don’t mind Heather, she’s just getting her snark in…and the only time she comments is when an Archie fan dares to say something nice about him. (I kinda hope she’ll hang around for the upcoming season and aim some of that sarcasm at the new Idols. Some of them will definitely deserve it). You have never been an “over-the-top” Archie fan. She’ll figure that out eventually.

Morning Mushbloggians one and all! Twas a lovely, quiet weekend at home. Hope you all had lovely weekends as well; i sure wouldn’t want to have a monopoly on them, LOL!

What Deirdre said, Linda… your views are always welcome here! I wonder sometimes if some people just can’t help it… if someone says something nice, they feel absolutely compelled to counter it with something somehow negative. I think we all know people like that! ‘Bout all you can do is show ‘em love!!!

ah well, busy busy week, boss preparing for a trial, so i’ll be out mostly, but in when i can snare a moment or two!!!

peace!

DWTS tonight…so, who should go? well i know, we won’t find out THAT until after they dance, but just in general, who do you think should be next to go???

meeeeOUT!!!

Took my 93 year old Dad with his 86 year old lady friend to FDR State Park and the Little White House in Warm Springs Saturday. Should have seen me trying to keep them both standing upright. Both are very feeble and fall alot. With me by myself, it was a trip. I was always grabbing one or the other to keep them from falling. I could have used an extra pair of hands. The main thing was that they both had a great time and enjoyed the outing. I was worn out by the time I got them back to LaGrange.

linny in reference to your questions on DWTS, my answer would be Laci and Lance.

My payroll reports are done printing so I will finish payroll. Be back later.

Sounds like a “fun” trip, Nana! Your dad is lucky to have such a dedicated daughter.

I’ve been to Warm Springs a few times. It’s a lovely town. Next time you make the trip, have lunch at the Bulloch House. It’s a wonderful old fashioned southern buffet.

But nanaaaaaa i don’t WANT Lacey to go (i could care less about Lance, LOL!) i think she’s a breath of fresh, sassy air, and brings some vital updating to the show — after all, it’s not “Ballroom with the Stars” it’s DANCING with the Stars, LOL!!! anyway, i know where you are coming from, i just hate to see her eliminated!!!

later gang!~

Thanks Deirdre for the kind words. I only do for Dad what he did for me when I was small. It’s now my turn to take care of him. I have eaten at the Bullock House and the food is very good. I love that little town.

linny I really don’t want to see Lacey leave neither, but if Lance goes, she does to, and like you, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if he did. It’s a shame she was teamed with him.

Nana… only problem is, who else would have been “hip” enough to dance with her… i really resent Len’s attitude toward her more modern style — does he not realize that even “real” dance competitions now include modern, jazz, and even some hip-hop styles? I love ballroom, don’t get me wrong — but i appreciate the rest of it too!!! He’s such a freaking fuddy-duddy!!! a funny one at times but…
