11/5: Diana DeGarmo visits Howard Stern, Daughtry visits Oprah

It’s a new day and a new president…

RS-11-03-08---diana-degarmo-on-air.jpg

Eric the Midget, a regular caller on Howard Stern, for years had a crush on Diana DeGarmo and would call Diana’s mom to try to reach her. He was a more facetious borderline stalker vs. the gal in Australia, who is truly psycho.

Somehow, Stern convinced her to show up and meet Eric live.

“I’m famous on Howard Stern,” she said. “That’s awesome!” She references a “top secret” boyfriend to fend off Eric’s crush.

From the Newsday blog about the encounter:

“I was definitely in kind of a little bit of shock [by the whole experience] because I don’t really listen, but I know Howard Stern. But I had a good time.” said DeGarmo, who was pressured to accept an invitation to dinner with Lynch, but gave “we’ll see” as a reply. “I’ve known about this whole thing for at least two years. I have a dear friend whose husband is a die hard fan. He’d call or text me every time my name was brought up … My mom said one ‘Do you know why Howard Stern is calling us?’ “

Here’s audio here.

And here

And here.

Here are photos.

-Daughtry sang his version of “Feels Like the First Time” as a “get out to vote” promotion on Tuesday’s “Oprah.” Here it is:

-Here’s the advertisement for the free concert Q100 is advertising December 15 at Center Stage featuring David Cook:

Page.jpg

-Carrie Underwood doesn’t like it when celebrities talk about politics, she tells TV Guide.

“I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate,” she said. “It’s saying that the American public isn’t smart enough to make their own decisions. I would never want anybody to vote for anything or anybody just because I told them to.”

Do you agree with her argument?

Sending my congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama. My hope is that he helps this country become better, more capable and less divided. My expectations(as with almost every new President) don’t rise quite that high.

Morning!

Diana/Howard….those 2 names just don’t seem to go together.

Don’t like David’s picture on the Q100 poster. He looks better now. His hair is shorter and not quite so mashed down on his head.

Yes, I agree with her.

Morning Bloggers. Hope you all had a good night.

Congrats to our new elected president. I hope and pray that he does well for the USofA and that we all benefit from the changes he is bound to make. Let’s all stand behind and support him.

Thanks L.S…. I forgot. I agree with Carrie. Celebrities need to keep their political opinions to themselves.

Good morning! New beginnings are always shiny and new. Here’s hoping for good things for America’s future. We are all Americans and in this thing together. Special congratulations to John McCain for his service to our country and for his extreme example of dignity in the face of loss. A true example of what is best about America!

I One Gazillion Percent agree with Carrie. What makes ANYone think that just because someone can make a movie or sing a song or play a doctor on TV that THEY know more than the american people about how to run a country. And those words came from my 22 year old son!! but realistically speaking, with all the papparazzi and celebrity “news” shows and magazines, it’s no wonder that people hang onto their every word as if they were preachers of the gospel.

Anyway… congratulations to our new President. I pray for sane change. I’m with you D.

JT, OK.

and now, (proving i could never get past the front gate of a singing competition…)

Fellow Lost fans…have you seen the trailer for the new season? I saw it on MSN last week. You can probably find it on Google.

I enjoyed Daughtry’s song. Thanks for the video, Rodney.

aaaaaaaaano! D i missed that, LOL. I’ve been lost myself, i guess.

And i have to second the comment above about Senator McCain. His speech in concession was one o fthe most class-filled and sincere speeches I think I’ve heard in my long life.

Thanks Rodney for the Daughtry thing. I enjoy listening to him.

Now that I’ve gotten to work, I need to get my collective scattered thoughts together to figure out what I’m doing… [no comments necessary about my scatter-brain!!!][grin]

Good morning fellow blogsters and fellow americans. It is a new day and I am happy to see how nice everyone is being on here today!!! I too pray for our new president, he has a tough road ahead of him and needs the support of all americans to do well. I agree with Carrie. Be an informed voter. Don’t vote for some guy because Mick Jonas (is that one of the Jonas brothers’ names?) says that some guy is cool!!

It is Wednesday….so here is my joke for today:

Q: How many musicians does it take to change a light bulb? A: Twenty. 1 to hold the bulb, 2 to turn the ladder, and 17 to be on the guest list.

Good morning all, and thank you Carrie! Next time get the message out sooner. Also, it’s nice to see Diana, it’s great that she braved the Howard Stern show.

Lara, are you (1) a performer (b) a performer’s wife/gf/so, (c) a roadie, or (d) own a music venue??? you know musicians so well!!!! ~¿@

speaking of roadies, has anyone see the nextel “if roadies ran the world” commercial? i laugh my azz off every time it comes on. it is SOOOOOOOOO “roadie” it hurts!!!

By Deirdre

November 5, 2008 9:35 AM | Link to this

I haven’t seen that one, linny. I’ll keep an eye out for it.Deirdre wonders what the world’s coming to if she looks forward to the commercials more than the show.

Lara, I agree. No matter what our political leanings are, we need to unify behind our new President(and keep our eyes on our Constitution).

Deirdre, it’s the one where the scruffy guys are loading the plane, instructing the passengers, loading the luggage and taking off in the plane… it’s priceless…you’ll appreciate it with your airline background, too, methinks!!!

D, I have not seen the commercial yet, but am certainly looking forward to Lost coming back. I have been a bit disappointed in this season’s Heroes—not enough to stop watching yet, but it is not as good as the prior two seasons. I can’t remember if there are any Heroes fans on the blog or not.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

November 5, 2008 10:24 AM | Link to this

oh yeah Harriett, I’m a huge Heroes fan too… and i’m not so sure yet about this season either. I wonder if, like Lost, they have their entire series mapped out (the writers) or if they are sort of just letting it grow as it grows, with only minimal pre-planning, LOL.

By JTesla

November 5, 2008 10:36 AM | Link to this

I’m with you on Heroes. I just recently started watching, I saw the entire first and second seasons in August. This season there is something lacking, but I can’t place my finger on what exactly “it” is. Hopefully they get it turned around.

So David Cook and Natasha Bedingfield are going to be at a relatively small venue? Odd.

By harrietth

November 5, 2008 10:52 AM | Link to this

One thing about Heroes this season is that they have revealed too much, i.e. taken the mystery out of some of the characters. I preferred it when you didn’t really know who the heroes and villains actually were. A suddenly empathic Sylar? Ugh! And the drama with Claire and her dad—was he, or wasn’t he? Etc.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

November 5, 2008 10:57 AM | Link to this

and i am not so …. um … sure about the sudden revival of Dad in all this. and Mohendar’s evilness… and… and … and

Linny - some of my best friends are musicians, so yes, I know them well. I am a huge LOST and HEROES fan. I like this season so far, by agree, a sympathtic Sylar? No, hard to accept that one.

By JTesla

November 5, 2008 11:18 AM | Link to this

To all those points I’d also like to add the fact that Claire and her dad have become very one dimensional.

I forgot to agree with Carrie. I will not & do not let any one person sway me from my beliefs. I have a mind of my own and am quite capable of using it. Celebrities are entertainers and should not try to influence on any subject. This is only my opinion. So yes, I agree with Carrie.

By harrietth

Right, JT, they have. She was so much the center of things before. And, linny, you are right about the evil Mohinder(or however you spell it). I hate him in that role. All I can think of when they feature his evil character is Jeff Goldblum in The Fly.

I thought you all might be interested to know that David Archuleta’s whole album is “On Demand” at z100 in NYC. Personally, I am very happy with the whole thing. I would love to hear what you all think.

By the way, I am so impressed that Daughtry chose to be neutral. I also lose all respect for entertainers when they obnoxiously endorse a candidate. I just want to be entertained. I am REALLY liking Daughtry.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

November 5, 2008 12:42 PM | Link to this

LOL!!!! Goldblum in the Fly … that’s so perfect, harriett!!!!! LMAO!!!

JT working on it… will get back to you hopefully later!!!

Linda, you’re a sweetheart for updating us and joining in. So glad you keep dropping in! I hope Archie’s cd does well. haven’t heard any of it, because i don’t listen to a lot of music radio, but i respect his talent immensely!

and with you on Daughtry!

Hey Linda! Nice to hear from you again!

I’m a little “lost” on the Heroes conversation but understand why you need to talk sometimes. I get frustrated with some shows, too.

Once Lost and American Idol start, I’m hooked for the rest of the season. And we’re only talking about a couple of months now!

By JTesla

November 5, 2008 1:13 PM | Link to this

Thanks Linda. Are we still looking at a November 11th release date for his album?

The fly comparision is perfect, but you can’t touch Goldblum.

Linda, welcome back girl. Stick around longer this time. Always glad to have you.

I have to join Lara for joke day. All of you out there that are parents, this should make you smile and remember your kids at these ages.

Jack (age 3) was watching his Mom breast feeding his new baby sister. After a while he asked, “Mom why do you have two? is one for hot and one for cold milk?”

Brittany (age 4) had an ear ache and wanted a pain killer. She tried in vain to take the lid off the bottle. Seeing her frustration, her Mom explained it was a child-proof cap and she’d have to open it for her. With eyes wide with wonder, the little girl asked, “How does it know it’s me?”

Tammy (age 4) was with her Mom when they met an elderly, rather wrinkled woman her Mom knew. Tammy looked at her for a while and then asked, “Why doesn’t your skin fit your face?”

The sermon I think this Mom will never forget….This particular Sunday sermon..”Dear Lord,” the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face, “Without you, we are but dust…” At this point he would have continued but at that very moment, Susie age 4, who was listening obediently, leaned over to her Mom and in a loud audibly shrill voice asked, ” Mom, what is butt dust”.

Kids, you just gotta love them.

I thought for a quick minute that Rodney was pranking us with the stuff about Diana on Stern’s show. HAHA. I listened to the audio Rodney linked. She was a great sport about the whole thing! I guess I figured her as the type who would be too prudish to go on the show. She is a pretty cool chick.

Thanks Linda. You know kids will say the darnest things and are they forever truthful (til they get to be tweens). They just blurt it out.

Since the move to Griffin, my hours changed to 6:30am - 3:00pm, so I’m gonna pack up and head to Monroe. Ya’ll be safe and please drive careful. I will chat with ya’ll tomorrow.

BTW: This was such a pleasant day. Really did enjoyed the nice conversations.

To go back to Diana/Stern — i too thought I was being “punked”, Jim … but on the other hand, watching that Going Country show, I noticed that Diana is growing more self-confident, more cosmopolitan, if you will, and has quite a sense of humor at times that is not slapstick or blatant, but fairly subtle and surprising. She’s definitely grown up from the highschooler from Snailville (yes i know it’s SNELL, but when you add a southern accent, it sounds like SNAIL) and sang the national anthem at ball games yada yada. She’s matured nicely — her mind, her personality and her looks. I truly hope she finds the right niche in Nashville and does well!!

Harriett hit the nail on the head. All things considered, it’s been a lovely day in the neighborhood.

Sad news to report. One of my favorite authors, Michael Creighton has died at 66 of cancer. He’s probably best known for creating the tv show ER but he was also a prolific author. Some of my favorites works are State of Fear, Andromeda Strain, and, of course, Jurassic Park.

I’m excited about what is to come with President Obama.

Back to the stuff about the Howard Stern show. I am glad I am not the only person who thought we were being punked with the headline. Diana is very grown up now and did a good job being on the show without getting defensive or freaked out. I guess i still think she’s still just a little girl sometimes but she really isn’t.

By Chris

November 5, 2008 7:03 PM | Link to this

Thanks for all the news, Rodney. Count me in as another person surprised that Diana was on Howard Stern. Those two just don’t seem to go together. She’s been mentioned on the show a lot all these years, so it was about time she went on. Listening to the interview, she’s definitely grown up a lot, but at the same time, I respect that she went on and refused to talk about her personal life. I like that she stayed true to who she was but also went along with the jokes and didn’t get defensive. I have to admit that the segment was quite funny.

Has anyone seen Cook’s music video? Lame video but darn it if he doesn’t look good.

linny asked me to send this message:

so sorry, y’all about earlier — i’m not even sure it was the blog’s fault; our server has been acting up here at work, and i think it caught my “send” in a loop and just kept repeating it!

in any event, i humbly apologize!!!

I don’t get the apology part…it’s not like linny did that on purpose. My guess is that somebody turned her in to the comment removal people. Once things are straightened out, she’ll be back.

linny…..Bless your heart, you hurry back now, ya heah!!!!!!!! I know that AJC will fix the problem and you will be back in no time.

Well Susan Lucci is no longer dancing. She was sent home last night on DWTS. L. Richie was absolutely fantastic last night. I liked his first song with Edyta and her real life husband, Alex dancing to it. What a performance from all three!!
