10/28: More on the Jennifer Hudson tragedy, Josiah Leming opens up

I’ve been so busy with Michael Johns and David Archuleta, I haven’t done much on Jennifer Hudson at all.

Here’s the latest news:

-From the Chicago Tribune:: Julian King, the 7-year-old nephew of actress-singer Jennifer Hudson, died from multiple gunshot wounds and his death has been ruled a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said this afternoon. The announcement follows an autopsy on Julian’s body, which was found in a sport-utility-vehicle parked on a street on the city’s West Side on Monday.

-From the Sun Times::

On the morning of the day Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother were killed, the singer’s sister Julia Hudson had argued with her estranged husband over car payments, sources say.

The husband, William Balfour, is in custody but has not been charged with the killings of Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew.

-From People magazine.:

Although her famous daughter encouraged her mom to leave their often-dangerous Englewood neighborhood, Donerson resisted.

“She didn’t need to move,” says Richard Lyons, Hudson’s acting coach for her 2006 Oscar-winning role in Dreamgirls. “She didn’t need a bigger house. She didn’t need anyone to buy her a new car. She didn’t desire or want those things. She was just supportive and stood by her daughter.”

281x211-1.jpg

And Jennifer’s sister Julia (right) blogs about her son’s death, according to mtv.com.

“I guess it’s time to update this,” she continued. “Now because I chose to do what was natural to me and love someone, it cost me my beautiful family. It cost me my beautiful, loving, supporting mother Darnell, my true blue baby brother Jason — I love you baby — and last but never least, my only son Julian, my innocent baby one that was sheltered from all the evil in the world because we loved him so much.”

And in more frivolous “Idol” news:

-Thanks to Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler has gone vegetarian:

“Most country girls do like their meat!” she told People. “I used to eat steak rare all the time. I’d just throw it on the grill for two seconds, flip it over and it was done and everyone was like, ‘That’s so gross - that thing is still moving!’ ”

josiah leming hollywood.jpg

-And here’s a story from the L.A. Times on the redemption of Josiah Leming, the emotional kid who lived in his car and just missed the top 24 last season because the judges worried about his fragile emotional state.

He’s quite embittered by the “Idol” experience:

“The real story is that the producers didn’t like me,” said Leming, who lived out of his car during his “Idol” experience. ” ‘Cause I wanted to do my own songs, and I wanted to have complete control.”

And of the show that brought him to the world’s notice, he added: “The producers pretty much control everything. You know, it’s all kind of rigged, and hands are coming in from places you don’t see. You just see the hand. It’s a dirty hand. And you don’t want to eat the food that that hand touches.”

“Idol” declined to comment.

Despite his new album coming out and having a pad in L.A., he seems a bit lost and may always be:

*”Sadness finds you,” he said as he ripped a sliver of onion in half, again and again, until the fragments covered his plate. “It doesn’t matter where you are, or how much money you’ve got, or how many people know your name. It’ll get you one way or another.” *

Sad! This tragedy will stay with Jennifer forever. There are things we just don’t “get over” and we can only hope that we’ll learn to live with them.

Re Josiah Leming. Two quotes in your article, Rodney, explain EXACTLY why this young man should NEVER have been on Idol no matter HOW talented he is:

“The real story is that the producers didn’t like me,” said Leming, who lived out of his car during his “Idol” experience. ” ‘Cause I wanted to do my own songs, and I wanted to have complete control.”

Did he honestly believe that he could have ‘complete control’ over a show that doesn’t belong to him?

And:

*”Sadness finds you,” he said as he ripped a sliver of onion in half, again and again, until the fragments covered his plate. “It doesn’t matter where you are, or how much money you’ve got, or how many people know your name. It’ll get you one way or another.” *

This boy has deep psychological issues and the producers were very wise not to involve him in a competition that he might actually lose.

No comment on the Jennifer Hudson tragedy, it’s too horrific.

Deirdre, I agree with you regarding Josiah. Of course I’d love for someone to point out to him that the other contestants, most notably the two David’s showed a great deal of control. He’ll never understand that, he is just looking for excuses.

As for Carrie and Kellie… hmm no I won’t go there.

Deirdre, I have mostly been lurking lately, been kinda busy. I’m still here!

Nana, I agree that Cloris or Susan will be leaving DWTS tonight.

My husband had two free tickets to the race Sunday, he took his uncle and they got to see Michael Johns, I should have went! Then again, I didn’t want to be there all day and have to watch the race.

I don’t like like any one that would intenionally murder another person, I DESPISE anyone that would kill a child!!!

Is that DWTS show still on? I guess Cheryl is still there, so maybe there is one reason worth keeping it around.

W/o Ai Josiah would still be a homeless drifter. Plus he cried all the time and the ptb smartly rejected the emotional trainwreck. He could never have handled the pressure of the show. He would have cracked and Idol would have been blasted for hurting him by the media.

Good Morning. It’s Hump Day. One day closer to Friday.

The JHud story is such a tragedy that words of comfort just don’t come to mind. All I can say is that I hope the monster who did this will burn in Hell.

Missed the last 15 minutes of DWTS, so who went home? Glad that they brought Edita back to dance with Cody.

Is not eating meat really good for you? I have second thoughts about it. If anyone on here is a vegetarian, I would welcome your imput.

Good morning everyone.

Speaking from personal knowledge, unfortunately, losing someone you love through an act of murder is such an horrific and overwhelming experience that it completely overpowers you and renders you helpless—at least at first. The loss is bad enough, but the manner of the loss—that is what overwhelms. Before, one thinks about dying in the abstract and in the future—never suddenly and immediately. And, in Jennifer’s case, she had to cope with three losses all at once. I know what she is going through and only hope that when the sun comes out again—and it will—that something of what was wonderful about her in the first place remains. It will change her forever, in ways she never imagined. I pray she will have plenty of support and the love of good friends.

Not much else to say…I think I did plenty of talking yesterday. :-) Sorry folks..once I get on a roll, it’s hard to shut me up!

Good mornin’ y’all.

Jennifer’s tragedy is sad beyond words. I honestly can’t even begin to imagine. Who would shoot a 7-year-old kid? It’s just horrific.

In the other lighter news, Josiah seems to be one of those “tortured” artists from back in the day. He seemed likeable enough on what they showed of him, but if you want total control, um, Idol ain’t it. It was probably best for him not making the cut, anyway.

DWTS: Finally! I mean, Cloris was entertaining, but it was time for her to get going. Plus, we get Edyta again for a bit… ;)

BTW, JT, no vegetarian jokes? lol. Don’t worry, though, you still have Jessica Simpson. g

LOL!!! Thanks harrietth!

Have to agree that, as amusing as she could be, it was time for Cloris to go. Now if we could get Susan Lucci out of there, we’ll be left with people who can dance.

mornin’ y’all. can you believe i FORGOT to watch the results from DWTS!!! Soooooo glad that Cloris is finally gone. Susan should go next. It looks to me like it may be a finale between Brooke and Warren — i could certainly live with that! I’m sorry Julianne has to undergo surgery — but Edyta is a FABULOUS standin!!! Just not so sure about the chemistry with Cody at this point, LOL!!!

Well i got out early this morning and did my civic duty. Managed to be “first in line” so no waiting for me!!! (except for the polls to actually OPEN, that is)…

welp. time to start mining the salt! you guys have a wonderfully lovely day … if you don’t have to work, being outdoors today should be simply awesome! And if you have to work, like me … maybe take a few minutes at lunch to appreciate the cool, but dry, autumn weather since it won’t be quite so cold today!!!

peace!

harrietth - Sorry for your loss. I also know first hand what it is to lose someone through violence, or in my case someone being stupid and making bad choices. My late husband was taken in that manner in front of the children and me. You are so correct when you stated that it changes you forever. It changes the way you think and feel. At least it did me.

Deirdre: Don’t fret about yesterday. You stated your opinions, as we all do, and if anyone doesn’t respect you for doing that, they can always leave. I found what you said was very much right on. You don’t have to be silent today or any day.

Good morning blogsters - happy hump day!

Josiah needs to buy a clue!

To lighten the mood around here…joke time! St. Peter’s still checking ID’s. He asks a man, “What did you do on Earth?” The man says, “I was a doctor.” St. Peter says, “Ok, go right through those pearly gates. Next! What did you do on Earth?” “I was a school teacher.” “Go right through those pearly gates. Next! And what did you do on Earth?” “I was a musician.” “Go around the side, up the freight elevator, through the kitchen…”

Here is another funny for you guys/gals:

Ray and Bubba (Texas mechanical engineers) were standing at the base of a flagpole looking up. A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. “We’re supposed to find the height of the flagpole,” said Bubba, “but we don’t have a ladder.” The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts and laid the pole down. Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement, announced, “Eighteen ft, 6 inches,” then walked away. Ray shook his head and laughted, “Ain’t that just like a woman!”. We asked for the height and she gives us the length!”

Who’s the smarter one here?

here’s one for you… might work!

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM

  1. Go to a secondhand store and buy a pair of men’s used size 14-16 work boots.

  2. Place them on your front porch , along with a copy of Guns & Ammo Magazine.

  3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.

  4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Bubba,

Big’un, Duke, Slim, & I went for more ammo and beer. Back in an hour. Don’t mess with the pit bulls - they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up bad. I don’t think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of ‘em in the house. Better wait outside.

Nana honey, that’s exactly the line D and I took when flats became so offensive to somewhere between 6-12 people that they flat LEFT the blog — some to start their own, some just because they couldn’t take it any more. so when flats says he ran them off, he’s not lying… he was THAT offensive.

we’ve tried being friendly.

we’ve tried ignoring him.

we’ve tried just being polite.

nothing works because as long as there are any of us around from the old days, HE can’t get away with it, because HE knows that WE know how rude he can be.

to each his own. you can “like” flats or you can “not like” flats or you can “ignore” flats … it’s sort of like political and religious opinions, you’re entitled to your own opinion, and it’s YOUR OWN, not anyone elses to “make” you feel a certain way.

Deirdre and I happen to like RODNEY so we stayed here, and will continue to stay here. No redneck computer hack from south carolina who happens to be a sports freak is going to tell me where or when i can blog.

now. i think i’ll go back to ignoring his comments and blogging as i see fit.

to anyone who is offended by my statements, i’m sorry you are offended. i’m not trying to start trouble; trouble was already started by flats. not sure why, because i’ve — nor D nor JT — not been rude or ugly to him … i guess he’s bored again and just trying to stir things up.

i’m outa here for lunch break…. see ya!

We were having a very nice conversation before that statement!

He is, once again, trying to start something…he thrives on controversy and disagreement. He loves to get us arguing amongst ourselves. He pits people against each other then sits back and enjoys his entertainment for the day.

He nearly singlehandly destroyed this blog last year with his rude comments directed at people he didn’t like. He called them names, he made veiled racist statements about them, he attacked 2 very nice gay guys who used to enjoy chatting here, he made fun of these people’s likes and dislikes, he embarrassed and insulted a large number of people non-stop until they chose to leave.

Why doesn’t he like me and linny? Because we were here…we witnessed his baffoonery, his childishness and his ugliness, we lost friends because of him and we haven’t forgiven him for it. JT has recently and repeatedly witnessed his nastiness.

He is the 15 year old bully who trips kids in the school lunch room because it’s fun and they aren’t like him so they deserve it.

To get back on topic:

MJ over at mjsbigblog had breakfast with Archie at a radio station this morning. She got a chance to chat with him and his dad about the new album. Here’s an excerpt:

First things first: Here’s the information I managed to get from David and his Dad: There is a song the David wrote completely on his own for the album. It’s called “Falling” and it’s a bonus track on the iTunes deluxe version. David wrote non-stop the two weeks before the album came out because he and Jeff felt there weren’t enough good tracks to choose from on the album. He wrote about 8 songs, for are on the album. He wrote the bonus track for the Wal-mart edition with Daniel Bedingfield. It’s an acoustic number, and the heaviest on the album. He also wrote “Don’t Let Go” with JC Chasez and “A Little To Not Over You” with Matt Girard and Robbie Neville.

And the pattern repeats itself. The typical pattern involves: an incendiary statement, followed by the freedom of speech defense and/or followed by a claim of being the victim, followed by an attempt to gain pity and/or feigning friendship. Repeat that over and over, month after month and you will know the Flats experience.

Can we all be “blog friends?” Most of us seem to be here for positive reasons, we share a common interest. It will be positive, but you can’t ignore the pattern.

I still can’t get over the horrible tragedy that befell the Hudson family. senseless.

I go back and forth with Josiah. Sure, he’s cocky and foolish to think he wouldn’t have to “play the game” in order to succeed in the American Idol format. On the other hand I think the theory that the Idols didn’t pick him because he was an emotional mess is BS. Idol producers will exploit anybody if it fits their narrative and they def. have their hands in everything. They just chose to show him as the emotional train wreck to get that Hollywood Week drama story and after that they had no more use for him. If it’s a talent show, there’s no way he didn’t deserve to get in over some of the bland disposable singers that made it instead. He really should just let go of that grudge ‘cause in the end the producers did him a favor even if they didn’t meant to.

Have any of you actually bought and LISTENED TO Josiah Leming’s EP? It’s very good. He is an exceptionally talented singer and songwriter.

Obviously, AI is a REALITY show and there is much manipulation behind the scenes — like there is with ALL reality shows. It’s about making great t.v., not about truly finding the best talent. Otherwise, we would not be tortured by weeks of bad auditions before the talent contest begins.

Give Josiah a chance before you bash him. You might be pleasantly surprised!

By harrietth

October 29, 2008 2:22 PM | Link to this

Hey, Louie, it is pretty much not disputed here that Josiah is talented and gifted. It was his emotional makeup that was in question—both for the good of the show and for him.

I kind of figured that the audition/hollywood phase is SOMEWHAT rigged, because the producers have got to have some sort of control as to who the top 24 is, rather than just the opinions of the 3 judges…..now let’s just hope to the death that the voting/judges’ comments are not rigged!

Louie…I’ve heard some of Josiah’s cd and I also thought it was very good.

I think the problem with Josiah had nothing to do with talent and everything to do with attitude.

I haven’t heard any bashing of Josiah’s talent…it’s his morose demeanor and his difficult “my way or the highway” attitude that got him bounced from Idol.

I will admit, however that Josiah’s fake British accent while he’s singing annoys me. He doesn’t speak that way…why does he sing that way?
