10/20: Michael Johns coming to Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday

images.jpeg

Sorry for the belated entry today. But I did set up my media credentials to see former Atlanta denizen Michael Johns at the Pep Boys 500 NASCAR race this Sunday at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The last time I was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway? To see William Hung. I know, I know. Why do I admit such things? Johns will be singing a pre-game concert of three or four songs from 12:50 to 1:05 p.m. Sunday, then will sing the National Anthem at 2 p.m. or so. These races attract 80,000 plus people. It’s like Athens on a UGA home football game day.

I just spoke with one of his buddies from Atlanta, Blaine Terry, who was in Hollywood over the weekend celebrating Johns’ 30th birthday. Brooke White, David Cook, Chikezie and David Archuleta were all there. I’ll definitely ask Johns about that, as well as his trip to Australia and his upcoming album, which is about halfway done.

  • Good review here for Constantine Maroulis’ “Rock of Ages” off-Broadway play.

-More on David Cook’s album here on mtv.com while he was shooting a video for “Light On” last week .:

“I did [a version of Cornell’s cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’] on the show, and Chris went into the media and said some really, really nice things,” he explained. “And this song actually got pitched to us, which I take as another huge compliment, the fact that he saw something in me with a song of his … just the fact that somebody of his caliber takes the time out of their day not just to mention my name, but to say something nice, it’s kind of out of this world.”

-The New York Times reports that “Spamalot,” despite the return of Clay Aiken is losing money now and is set to close its doors January 18, 2009. The economy can’t be helping Broadway business.

William Hung? Always doing your duty as a journalist.

Thanks for the info. What ever will Clay do with Spamalot closing?

Remember, Rodney, the traffic will be AWFUL - leave early….Have fun at the race! (ahem, take some ear plugs if you plan to stay)

JT, I am afraid Clay’s star has taken a decidely downward trajectory of late, and it is not because of his recent coming out, IMO. It is because he only appeals to a narrow population. He needs to get a stage show together and do Vegas. He’d be a hit there, I believe. He’d be able to sing songs that fit his voice and not have to pay so much attention to what might play on the radio.

Hood Morning to one and all. Hope ya’ll had a good evening.

“William Hung!!!* It’s so uncanny that you mentioned him Rodney. Yesterday morning, a co-worker and I were talking about him and were wondering whatever became of him. Do you know if he is still around and what he is up to these days?

I will definitely have to watch the beginning of the race just to see MJ.

Any takers on who will leave DWTS tonight? My take is either Cloris/Corky or Susan/Tony. Of course, IMO, the best last night was Brooke/Derek.

Morning!

Only saw a portion of DWTS last night so I can’t make any judgments….although, Susan Lucci couldn’t get any stiffer if she was frozen in a block of ice.

I just read my morning post and boy did I goofed. I meant to say Good Morning and not Hood Morning. Sorry about the typo.

Susan was very careful last night as she was dancing with a fractured foot. Before she and Tony danced, the clip showed her going to the hospital and having an MRI and the doctor pointed out a fracture. I guess that would cause anyone to be cautious and unrelaxed for fear of stepping wrong and making the fracture worse. Her every step must have reminded her of the break and she was most likely very conscious of it. If it were me, I’m not even sure I would have danced. If she is still around next week, hopefully, she will not be as stiff and can relax more. I still say that Cloris needs to go.

I fear for Lacey/Lance :-(

I actually enjoyed Cloris, she was obviously TRYING to dance this week, and last, instead of JUST clowning. Lucci is just too “delicate” (as in prissy, tight, fragile), of COURSE her partner treats her like she’ll break!

I think that Julie and Cody gave Brooke and Derek a run for their money, the Lucy/Desi mockery was cute and the dance was great. Derek and Julie are really creative, clever and committed. The fact that neither was familiar with JitterBug and both came up with the routines they did was phenomenal.

I really enjoyed Warren Sapp and Kim, too. My top 4 are Brooke-Warren-Cody-Lance. I just don’t get Maurice for some reason. Cloris and Susan — well, they are there for entertainment. and Braxton — well she’s cute, and i wish her well, and i’m glad the dance has actually strengthened her heart… but she’s only at #5 for me.

ok i’ve spent my blogtime now, so i will see you guys later if i get a break!

peace…and enjoy the FALL weather! sooooo pretty but nippy out there!!!

I thought it was Brooke who had the foot injury.

I just got back from taking mom to vote early. It took a little extra time because I locked my keys in the car. I’ve never done that before so I felt like a total idiot.

A very slow day on here. I guess we all are soooooooo busy that we don’t have time to just chill and chat. I know I’m really swamped. Working out of packed boxes is not a good thing. Only 6 more days left to work in Norcross, then its off to Griffin, which is where I will be tomorrow. Have to handle some employee issues.

Deirdre, don’t feel bad about the keys. I did that about a year ago at the cemetery in Stockbridge and it was like 28 degrees. My purse, cell and all was in the car, had to walk about 1/2 mile to use a phone and near about froze my a** off as my jacket was also in the car. Then I had to wait until my daughter drove from Lawrenceville. I just jogged around the cemetery till she showed up about 2 hours later. But I also threw my keys in a trash can at Burger King and had to dig them out. Talk about being embarrassed over that one. Of course my two grandkids thought it was funny!!!!

Nah, it was Susan that had the fractured foot, not Brooke.

Right, Susan did … Brooke had twisted hers a little the first or second week i think, and susan had actually injured hers 2 weeks ago i think, but she didn’t think it was bad… until rehearsal this week.

yeah, Nan, waaaaay too busy today to talk much…. see you … soon!

Just so y’all don’t think I’m crazy:

Burke, who was performing the jitterbug with partner Derek Hough during a camera blocking rehearsal Sunday afternoon, came down hard on her right foot while doing a front flip in the high-energy routine. She immediately applied ice to her foot to reduce swelling. As a precaution, Burke was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Monday morning for further examination and X-rays. It was determined she has a severe bruise. “She’s a little sore, but she rehearsed today and she feels ready to dance tonight,” an ABC spokesperson tells PEOPLE.
