7/30: David Archuleta’s single coming soon, Melinda Doolitle goes indie

David Archuleta is getting his first single out later this week dubbed “Crush,” to debut on Z100 in New York Friday.

test-use.jpg

The top 40 station said it will be a mid-tempo tune, not a treacly ballad. We’ll see. More details here.

-EW reports that season six’s Melinda Doolittle has finally gotten herself a record deal with an indie label Hi Fi Recordings, home to Todd Rundgren. No street date yet for her album.

-MJ culled lengthy interviews with a bunch of the “Idols” to get tidbits such as Syesha and David C. moving to L.A., Ramiele and Danny Noriega planning to tour the Phillipines together and Ramiele meeting with Disney after the tour. Watch the videos here.

-TV Guide channel is in talks to pick up season three of “American Idol Rewind’ with Fantasia, Diana DeGarmo and Jennifer Hudson in the house. More here.

Shark Week photo.jpg

-There’s some suspicion online that Ryan Seacrest is in cahoots with Discovery Channel and “planted” that story about him getting “bitten by a shark” in time for the network’s big promotional “Shark Week.” Let’s see some physical evidence, Ryan! (Blog regulars might be amused to know that the shark bite bit yesterday was the top story on ajc.com, pulling in a whopping 60,000 page views, doubling the number for the month on the site. Thanks Ryan!)

GOOOOD Morning Bloggers!!!! Its Hump Day so rise and shine. Today is stort/joke day, so get them ready and start posting.

I’ve been at the office since alittle before 6am so I’m taking a break.

The pix of Archie on the cover looks like he is hung over, that goofy smile and squinted eyes. Not appealing at all.

What did you all think about AGT last night? My two favorites were the man who looked and acted like Ozzie Osbourne and the lady who sung Martina McBrides’s Broken Wing. The man even had Sharon looking shocked that someone could imitate Ozzie that well. I mean, he had him down to the core. He was amazing. I really did like the lady. I thought she was really good in her song. Seems like the audience and judges liked her as well. Next week they should be in Vegas, Auditions are OVER!!!!

Now I’ll be glad when AGT eliminates the purely “novelty” acts like the girl who does sparks on metal plates on her body, or the guy who crushes rocks.

The Ozzie guy was unbelievably like Ozzie!!! I loved Sharon’s “could you drop your pants so i can be sure it’s not really my husband” … we were sitting there, jaws dropped when he walked out. That guy HAD Ozzie “down pat” as it were!!! The soldier at the end was also VERY good. Holly the 40+ mom had one of the richest voices i’ve heard in a LONG time.

I think in the long run, this may be the year a singer wins again, instead of something else — they’ve put through some incredible vocal talent!

“Computer Problems”

I was having trouble with my computer, so I called Richard, the 11 y/o boy from next door whose bedroom looks like NASA’s Mission Control. I asked him to come over and take a look at the computer. He clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem. As he was walking away, I called after him, “So what was wrong?” I asked. He replied, “It was an ID ten T error.” I didn’t want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired, “An ID ten T error? What’s that? Just in case it happens again and I need to fix it?” Richard grinned…..”Haven’t you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?” No, I replied. “Write it down” he said “and I think you’ll figure it out. So I wrote it down:

“I…D…1…0…T”

I used to like the little turd-knocker.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 30, 2008 9:23 AM | Link to this

…not to mention eye candy for the guys — some of the dance teams — a little bit of eye candy for the gals — and quite a bit of “nonsense” acts, LOL. oh! i mean “novelty” acts. I wonder how many total were sent to Vegas for the call-back and elimination down to just 40 acts — that’s what they said happens next week on Tuesday. So, i guess we won’t be seeing much of ALL the acts passed through — i’d rather them take 3 weeks to weed them out and let US see them in this stage (sort of like Hollywood week, right?) oh well.

OH! i almost forgot goooooood morning mushbloggians!!

By Nana

July 30, 2008 9:47 AM | Link to this

Oh, I forgot about the soldier. He was good. I’m glad they put him through. I am in total agreement that they have had some amazing vocalists this time and that one will win. Right now there have been to many to say which one will carry over and win. I like the opera, the motown, Frank Sinatra, the blond who sung Carrie Underwood, the lady from last night,to name a few, and of course Ozzie. That guy was just totally awesome. The look on Sharon’s face was a mastercard moment, “Priceless.” Several of the ladies here at the office youtubed him after I told them about him. They were also mazed at how much he looked and sounded like Ozzie.

Morning!

Some of the acts that we didn’t see much of last night on AGT looked interesting. But the auditions went on WAY TOO long! Like the soldier, liked the mom with the adopted daughter, although I couldn’t help but wonder how her mom felt watching her with her biological mom.

By harrietth

July 30, 2008 10:17 AM | Link to this

D, I agree about the adoptive mother. I wondered, too. In some ways I belive AGT to be exploitive, given their propensity to wring every bit of emotion and sap from the back stories. The adoption thing might have been too exploitive. The soldier’s story, too, although most would say “patriotic,” instead of exploitive. Just MO.

By Deirdre

July 30, 2008 10:51 AM | Link to this

harrietth, I agree. While Idol has toned down the “sob stories”, AGT seems to build them up to overly dramatic proportions. It starts to make the stories silly rather than heartfelt and does a disservice to the people who have lived them.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 30, 2008 10:52 AM | Link to this

well AGT has saved one “special” story from each audition location to close the show, or to close a segment of the show. it’s been a little heavy handed at times, but not so much that it bothers me a lot. I think we’ve been given some back stories that were meant to wring our hearts, but they were for people who deserved to go through regardless, each time. I still wonder how many made it through the auditions to Vegas, how many will be weaned down to 40 on Tuesday. i don’t have time to research it, so if anyone can figure it out, i’ll be grateful to you :-)

and i think it’s thirtyone days from July 30 to August 30 since July has 31 days. just sayin’

By Nana

If I were an adoptive mother and my child wanted to meet their biological parent, I would not hold any ill feelings toward either the child or mother. Infact, I would welcome a chance to tell the biological mom that she gave me the greatest gift in the world, and that would be her child to love and raise. The young lady now has two loving mothers. So I would hope this would be the reaction of the adoptive mother, and that she would be willing to share her daughter. By meeting the biological mother does not necessarily mean that she will lose her daughter’s love. Infact, I think the daughter would love and respect the adoptive mother more. This is just MO.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 30, 2008 11:03 AM | Link to this

Nana, i remember thinking when Holly said that she “saw her on My Space and just knew it was her daughter” and then contacted her, that it could be a very dangerous thing — 1-what if the girl didn’t know she was adopted? 2-what if it just LOOKED like her but was NOT her? That’s a little scary to me. In this case it seemed to all be fine — obviously the daughter is old enough to know her own mind with regard to biological mother vs. mother who raised her… or both, i suppose. but what if someone was looking at MySpace and saw, say my son, and wrote to him and said Hey! you’re my child i gave up for adoption 21 years ago!!! He’d be pretty freaked out, as would I, since I was very much awake and aware that he came from ME, LOL, all those 21 years ago!

just a thought.

By harrietth

July 30, 2008 11:04 AM | Link to this

Nana, yes, but they didn’t even speak about the adoptive parents or what kind of life the girl had had before her mother found her. I think that was a snub, and if I were the adoptive parent, I think I’d be offended.

OH and what did you folks think of the whistling EIGHTY year old mom and her forty year old daughter?

While I agree, i couldn’t listen to it for 90 minutes, i was REALLY impressed — whistling in tune is hard enough, but whistling in HARMONY and in tune (mostly) was pretty darned impressive, imho!

By Deirdre

July 30, 2008 11:34 AM | Link to this

I didn’t enjoy the whistlers because they were kind of sharp…hurt my ears.

I do enjoy whistling though. My mother-in-law is one of those people who whistles while she works and she’s very good at it.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 30, 2008 12:02 PM | Link to this

that’s one reason that whistlers are not more popular in general i think — the whistling sound can really irritate the hearing if it’s not exactly what your ears like — and i think that varies from person to person! but i did think it was interesting, LOL. I was so afraid — every audition there’s someone they “interview” who VERY carefully AVOIDS saying what their talent will be — and some of them have been TRULY horrible awful gross sick acts — i was afraid they would be ahem errrr oh, i dunno, farting or something in a duet, LOL!!! so whistling was almost a relief!

By Nana

July 30, 2008 12:22 PM | Link to this

I see where you are coming from linny. I would hope that the biological mom did some major research before she assumed that she was her daughter. Neither would I want someone to see a pix of my child and think it was theirs. The daughter does appear to be old enough to make her decisions and apparently did so. As usual, the producers show us only what they want and then leave us hanging to try and figure out the connections. I guess I want all involved to be happy and at peace with the bio mom and daughter connecting. Hopefully, the girl had excellent adoptive parents and had a good upbringing, and understands her need to meet the person who gave her life.

I don’t know if any of you have ever been foster parents, but in the late 60’s and early 70’s, my late husband and I were. When we had to give a child back, it would rip my heart out, even though I knew I had to. I know this is different from adopting, but I was also glad when child and mother were reunited, with the exception of once. We got a 4 day old from the hospital, raised her for 18 months, DFACS said the mother was rehabilitated and gave her back to her mom. Less than 6 weeks later, the mom’s boyfriend beat the child to death. That is one case I wished I had taken her and ran. But as I have stated, adopting is different, but the adoptive parents need to let the child know and if the time ever comes, allow that child to meet their biological parent(s). I can sypathize with adoptive parents on not wanting the child to be hurt or disappointed when meeting their biological parent(s), as many are. And as parents, we all try to protect our children at all costs.

From what I just read on realitynewsonline.com, 76 contestants were put through to Vegas. They will narrow it down to 40 next Tuesday and announcing the 40 on Thursday. Sure seemed like more than 76 was put through, imo.

Also read that on every episode of AGT , they are required by federal law to have at least one heart wrenching back story. I don’t know if this is true, but that is what was posted on the web. As I think back through the auditions, usually the last contestant had a sob story and was put through. Remember, the taxi driver from NY who did Motown, the lady Queen who was a single mom, the man who had injured his vocal cords, they all had a sad story and all were put through. So maybe the article was correct. Even last night, the soldier and the biological mom had sad stories and they were put through as well. This is something to think about. I can’t remember if anyone that wasn’t profiled with a sad background was not sent to vegas. Seemed like they all were. Help me here if any of you remember any differently than I do, cause I am getting senile.

I want my cake and I want to eat it too! I want Joshua to win SYTYCD, but I don’t want anymore dancers eliminated.I don’t suppose there is a way to have Joshua win without eliminating more dancers?

I think a singer will win AGT, I still think it will be a male one though.

I want Star to be America’s Greatest Dog. Gabe Garcia to win Nashville Star (I won’t be disappointed if Melissa wins)and I have no clue who the mole is. I am ready for American Idol to start.Oh Yeah: McCAIN 08

Nana, I applaud you for being a foster parent. I wish I were a strong enough person to do something like that( I would be an emotional wreck when they took the child back.I can’t go to an animal shelter either, I would feel bad that I couldn’t adopt all the animals and I know I would feel guilty for leaving any behind.

Morning!

I loved SYTYCD last night.

My favorite couple last night was Mark and Kourtney. From the most romantic waltz, executed beautifully to the modern, hip and angry jazz piece, these two conveyed everything that dancers should.

My favorite individual dancer last night was Joshua. His pasa doble left me breathless. His and Katee’s bullfighter and cape routine qualified as my favorite dance.

Twitch, while gorgeous, is not my cuppa tea. Chelsie was wonderful.

The top 2 guys should be Joshua and Mark. Top 2 girls, Katee and either of the other two. IMO

Actually to be technically correct, it’s only 28 days, because the first college games will be played THURSDAY NIGHT 8/28. It’s 30 days until the Dawgs play the Eagles between the hedges on Saturday, August 30th. I’m just tired of know-it-alls who are WRONG. I know I’m opening myself up to nasty snide remarks and innuendos and other negative input from certain quarters, but dammit… i’m tired of it. Now I’ve said my piece and I’ll go work for a while till I cool off some.

Rest of you, have a wonderful day.

I missed the first 5 minutes, so I missed Mark and Courtney’s first dance. I really do like all the dancer’s left, however, most of the girls get on my nerves - personality wise. For instance, who told them they were the greatest thing since sliced bread to begin with? They are always complimenting Chelsie on her dancing and looks, but I think her solo’s are the most unoriginal and boring of them all. All she does is shake her hips. It seems the choreographers like to have her do that as well.

Lara, if you want to see the first dance, go over to MJ’s(Rodney has a link to it on the left)and scroll down. She has all the dances on video.

Lara — you should see if they’ve streamed Mark and Kourtney’s opening number. It was VERY good!

With regard to Chelsie (and she’s probably my least favorite girl) in defense — her training, background, and specialty is ballroom - specifically “latin” dances — thus the hips and legs. Kourtney is a “modern dance” person — i.e., improv, artsy, somewhat athletic/acrobatic … katee seems to be more well-rounded in her background and training, but she too is more in the modern dance school.

It’s kind of funny — i LOVE the modern “jazz” type dancing, and the so-called “slow hiphop” is very interesting, being a little bit of a blend of modern, jazz, and hiphop. But i’m essentially a “classical” dance afficianado, the ballroom and latin styles (waltz in all its forms, tango, mambo, samba, fox trot, quick step, jive, etc.) If you remember Heidi (the schwimmer cousin) and Lacee Schwimmer, they both ALSO danced what is essentially a partnered style in a solo format during the solos, as did Benji Schwimmer. That’s one reason it’s so wonderful this year to see the modern and street dancers doing SO very well in the show. Chelsie is truly the only one left from that genre, while our guys … wow!

You go linny! Gotta have those facts straight! The Gamecocks begin practice tomorrow!

On another note, I had the very sad task this morning of taking my sister and her kitty to have the pet put to sleep. She was sick and had so many health problems, but, still, it was so sad. They live with me—sister and the cat—so I was attached to it, too. I read online about what to expect, and it was very, very, humane and peaceful in reality.

I had to have my cat put to sleep a couple of years ago…it nearly killed me. I’ll have to do that for my mom’s cat soon. He’s old and not doing too well either.

I won’t go when one of the dogs needs it. Our golden died while chasing deer away from our fence…what a great way for a dog to go! But, I went through two tissue boxes when my son’s cat had to go…I’d never make it with one of the dogs.

harrietth sorry about the kitty. Sometimes it’s better to have them euthanized than to continue letting them live in distress.

Who is everyone’s pick to be eliminated tonight?

On the Mole, I think the mole is Mark.

I peeked in on Greatest American Dog last night(I still do NOT approve) Was happy to see that the Brittany was still there since I have 2 of them frolicking in my backyard as I type. Seems appropriate that it’s the older man who owns the Brittany….I learned to love them from my grandparents who always had one named Freckles…when one died, they’d just name the next one Freckles…said it was too confusing otherwise. :-) (I’m starting to understand what they meant)

My boss just brought in the nicest flowers and a sympathy card for my sister, noting the loss of her pet. Such a sweet thing for her to do! My sister “cat-sits” for my boss’s cats when she is out of town. People who do not have animals do not know the depth of sorrow over the loss of one. Sounds like most of you have been there. We are going to the beach on Saturday, so maybe getting away is the best thing for my sister under these circumstances.

I missed SYTYCD last night. Really, though, I haven’t watched it consistantly enough to keep up. I do remember who the contestants are when you guys talk about them.

D, she sure is! Such a thoughtful and kind thing to do. She has two cats herself and has had others in the past. Funny thing is that all of her cats have human names. One is Edward, and the other is Maggie. She had another cat she called Kathy. LOL! At first when she spoke about them, I thought she was talking about a person!

I’ve always loved cats, but until this year never had one who seemed to really “love me back” … they like me fine, but none have ever bonded to me personally — it’s usually hubby who is the “cat person” — but last year we had a kitten born to our orange tabby — China was born white, with just a pale hint of orange on the tail and ears — sort of a “flame point” but pale pale pale — she was named China because she looked just like those little ceramic china kittens — she would come to bed with me and snuggle up under my chin to sleep. About a week ago she disappeared, and I’ve been walking around the neighborhood, calling for her… but i think she got out and someone just took her in … i may never see her again and it is almost as hard as if she had died. I’ve about resigned myself to let go, but… every time i go to bed i REALLY miss her jumping over and curling up…

oh well… sorry, didn’t mean to get maudlin … i just miss her, and it’s been hard to talk about …

You don’t find many bosses that will do that even when is a human being. Harretth, you might ought to keep that boss. She sounds fantasic to work for.

I’ve had cats disappear on me, too…it’s very hard. All you can do is hope they found a good home somewhere else. Sorry, linny!

Linny, if it is any comfort to you, someone probably did take your kitty in and adopt her. My sister did that with a stray cat that wandered into her life and stayed around for 13 years! If someone loves animals enough to want to take them into their home and life, then the kitty is probably living well. Lucky was the cat that my sister ever owned! And to tell the truth, that cat always was the neighborhood cat, visiting everyone on our street from time to time. Once in awhile he wouldn’t come home overnight, and we’d assume he had been taken in by someone.

linny, maybe China will find her way back home. I sincerely hope she does. It’s hard to lose a pet regardless of the way they are lost.

Oh I’m sure she’s found someone to love her much…she’s so freaking sweet, lol, and simply GORGEOUS. i watched the roadways all around us carefully for signs of a hit-and-run, and saw no such signs, so if she’s giving someone love and affection, and being cared for, i’m happy for her. i just miss her, LOL!!!

thank you all for your comments — harrietth, you DEFINITELY need to keep that boss!!!

Yes, I do, Linny. She has been very, very good to me, mostly acting as a mentor in many cases. When I made the decision to attend college for the first time at the age of 47, I had a friend who was a friend of my current boss. When I got my undergrad degree and decided to stick around for graduate school, my boss asked my friend if I’d want to work in her office as a grad assistant. The rest is history, more or less, landing me a permanent job once I was finished with school. She has been in my corner all the way.Talk about an old dog learning new tricks! Hope you get this, as I know there is a new thread up.
