7/23: Trenyce joining Ruben, Frenchie in “Ain’t Misbehavin’”

I’m off to Chicago today for what is likely to be a very depressing journalists’ convention. (The biz isn’t exactly on a hot streak right now…) So apologies in advance that this won’t be the most scintillating Idol blog entry ever.

9937__trenyce_l.jpg

Trenyce is the third “Idol” finalist to join the national tour of “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” which comes to Fox Theatre this November.

She joins Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis on the show.

“When I heard Ruben was a part of it, I was excited because it has been such a while since we really got a chance to hang out,” she told blackvoices.com. “When I got the role and he called me and it took us a while to get off the phone because we were catching up on each others lives. He is like my brother. I love him so much. And then Frenchie, I hadn’t really seen her since I went to see ‘Rent’ a few years ago. It will be nice to see her again as well. I love the fact that we were all from the same season and now we are all reuniting on stage again, but in another capacity.”

Debra Byrd, the vocal coach for “Idol,” is helping out with the show as well.

-David Cook talks to the Detroit Free Press before Thursday’s “Idols Live” show.

As usual, he sounds like a decent guy:

Q: Is fame what you imagined it to be?

A: It is so much more than I could ever have imagined. I never want to be that person that turns anybody away for showing interest in my career and myself. In that aspect, I’m making the time for everybody. As soon as I got off the bus here, I went and dropped my bags off and went outside and signed autographs for 30, 40 minutes. The people that come to these shows are the people who put me where I’m at, so it seems like the very least I can do.

He danced around a question related to the fans “Cougars for Cook.”

-And the usual coverage of auditions here, now in Louisville, Ky..

Rodney — maybe not the most scintillating ever, but certainly informative and interesting. Cookie DOES indeed sound like a very nice guy. And Trenyce sounds pretty nice too, actually. I too think it’s kinda cool when some of the alumni from a particular year end up performing together — with the exception of this past year, MOST of the “groups” have sounded pretty good together — this past year, maybe because of the incredible diversity, they just never seemed to mesh as an entire “group ensemble” — tho’ some of them did nicely together in smaller clusters, i might note.

Have a safe trip to Chi-town, try to enjoy it — there’s a lot in Chicago i’d LOVE to go visit, given the time!

I’m back from a trip to the dentist. I spent 15 minutes yelling at him(in jest, he’s a family friend) about his crappy handicap access. I even made him come out and watch me trying to maneuver mom’s wheelchair over the bumps and cracks in his sidewalk.

People are starting to cringe when I come through their doors! :-)

SYTYCD SPOILER ALERT

I was checking out some stuff and came across this “spoiler” … if anyone cares, LOL. If I remember correctly, the girl draws the name of a guy from the “hat”, then he draws the dance card from another “hat”. (Hat’s in quotes because i don’t think they actually USE a hat, but i don’t remember exactly WHAT they do)

Mark & Comfort - Foxtrot & Hip Hop

Joshua & Chelsie - Argentine Tango & Disco

Twitch & Katee - Contemporary & Broadway

Will & Courtney - Samba & Hip Hop

Morning!

I woke up this morning to a kitchen counter covered with ants!!!! :-( I’ve been on a killing spree ever since. I HATE those things.

I have a busy day today preparing to become Mrs. Hollywood for a weekend of fun. There’s a very nice couple coming to stay with mom. Fortunately they love dogs and, since I have 3, they will be kept VERY busy.

By harrietth

July 24, 2008 8:27 AM | Link to this

D, what a thing to wake up to! I seem to remember ants being much more of a problem when I was a kid. Maybe it was the fact that there was no air conditioning and all that was between the kitchen and the back yard was the screen door. We used to have to put out ant poison. It was a staple that my mother kept on hand all the time. It was purple and called “Anti-Ant.” LOL. That is what your post about fighting ants dredged up from my memory!

By harrietth

July 24, 2008 8:28 AM | Link to this

I meant to ask, D, what is your weekend of fun going to be about?

By Deirdre

July 24, 2008 8:38 AM | Link to this

harrietth..I use a product I got at Lowe’s called Terro. It is a clear gel like stuff that you put on a piece of paper or cardboard. The ants flock to it and take it back to the nest where it kills them all…very effective, however you have to put up with lines of ants for a couple of days. Not pleasant, but once they latch on to this stuff, they don’t get into anything else.

We’re going to Los Angeles to visit our son and see the sights.

By Deirdre

July 24, 2008 8:42 AM | Link to this

RE SYTYCD: I don’t think there’s any doubt that Mark and Comfort will go home tonight. Comfort was absolutely awful with the Foxtrot…totally out of her element.

Loved ALL the other dances. Katee is wonderful and Chelsie really stepped up to the plate last night. She has an annoying personality but, once I found I she just turned 19, that explained a lot. Courtney was excellent as well.

Twitch impressed me after a few weeks of being just so-so. And Will and Joshua are wonderful.

July 24, 2008 8:48 AM | Link to this

And continuing my Diane imitation(where did she go?)I just found an interesting quote from Michael Johns explaining why he doesn’t plan to sign with a label:

” Yeah, I’ve been burned by three labels, two major, one independent, and I just don’t think I have it in me to face that rejection again. So I’ve been writing and I’m going to make it myself. We’re really not supposed to be writing while we’re on contract, but I don’t care I’ve been doing it anyway.”

Rodney - have fun in Chicago!!! It is a cool town, hopefully you will have a chance to be a tourist!!

I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how long it will be until the college football season starts? Anybody? Anybody?

SYTYCD - I fell asleep duing the 2nd half and really missed Twitch and Katee and Mark and Comfort’s 2nd dances. I do have TiVO, but was really too tired to go back and watch. I don’t know why, but Courtni gets on my nerves - but I think Comfort just might be going home tonight. Can’t we send 2 girls??? This dilema again…I like all the guy remaining, but Mark may just be packing his bags.

36 minus 1 equals 35 minus 1 equals 34 minus 1 equals 33, ad nauseum. i THINK most of us can figure this out without being yelled at every morning.

Besides. Let me make it easy for you. The University of Georgia’s First Season Game is versus Georgia Southern, between the hedges, the Saturday before Labor Day (i.e., August 30). So, therefore, those who want to invade Athens for the first home game can plan accordingly, as IF they hadn’t already.

I, myself, will be in Daytona Beach and Tampa that weekend.

I’m on the Comfort and Mark ticket out of town train, myself. Hubby wants Chelsie to go. He’s never been much of a blonde fan anyway. I think, D, he feels the same annoyance at her behavior/attitude you did. Do you realize she’s about the same age Julianne Hough was when she started on DWTS???? And… i have a feeling they MUST know each other — both from the ballroom tour, both from utah…. i don’t see how they could miss! She certainly reminds me quite a bit of JH, LOL.

y’all have a great day!

flats - I read that NASCAR has told Toyota they have to reduce the horsepower to their engines????? Because they keep winning the races. Apparently, Toyota has a unfair advantage over the other car makers due to their R&D. I love that in EVERY branch of life, higher standards have to be lowered rather than encouraging or insisting that low standards be raised.

Dawn! Hear! Hear! “dumbing down” everything to the lowest common denominator — like the No Child Left Behind — should be called “no child gets ahead” — how will our children EVER learn to be innovative, creative, daring?

There is a fabulous old sci fi story by Kurt Vonnegut which addresses that - Harrison Bergeron - click here for Wikipedia synopsis

Speaking of NASCAR — my favorite “OMG” about NASCAR recently is the penalty for a car being One Sixteenth of an Inch too “wide”. Gimme a freaking BREAK!

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 24, 2008 10:02 AM | Link to this

hmph. link did not work, my bad — if you google “Harrison Bergeron” however you can find info on the story if you’re interested. Sorry, don’t know why it didn’t work :-(

By DawnH

July 24, 2008 10:15 AM | Link to this

Linny - I did read about that 1/16th of an inch thing. How do you even measure that on a car! And what kind of advantage does the car being 1/16th of an inch wider provide? STUPID, STUPID! I don’t really keep up with NASCAR, but I know STUPID when I read it. I tried to watch a couple of races when nothing else was on, but all they show are commercials. I don’t think they showed a full 2 minutes of the race at any one time.

Dawn…Toyota has found a way to get 22 more hp than the fords and chevies.I dont think it’s cheating just hard work paying off and some good brain work!!!I think the other teams need to find it out themselves.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 24, 2008 10:30 AM | Link to this

Dawn, have you ever been to a race? It’s an unbelievable experience — on the one hand, it’s a heckuva people-watching experience. And once the race starts, it’s just unbelievable how loud the cars are passing you, but only for a few moments, then it’s eerily almost quiet until they come back around — I’ve not been since the Atlanta track was trashed and had to be rebuilt. But i will say, it’s a weird sort of entertainment, but an experience i’m glad i had a chance to take. Not being a big NASCAR fanatic, i doubt i’ll ever go again. But i do sort of keep an ear open for what’s going on in that field; it’s definitely a no-holds-barred kind of crowd!

I used to love to go to pro football games in Tampa — my dad is one of those LOUD fans, wearing funny hats, and the whole nine yards. My youngest sister is too. You could hear her from the other side of the stadium start the “Tampa” “Baaaay” (where each side of the stadium does one or the other word in response to the other side’s chant) all by herself, LOL.

I’m probably more a baseball fanatic, we watched the braves thru thick and thin in the 70s and early 80s when we lived in atlanta and could get to the field — and it was cheap enough for us to all go and have a great day. not any more sadly. it was great when the braves won, but it was just fun to go because it was BASEBALL no matter what. Those were the days!!!

But in my old old age, i now enjoy more watching competitions on TV, and am so glad to see dance taking such a large bite into the reality-slash-competition field!!! I’ve always been a bit of a frustrated dancer — i thought i MIGHT have done well with the right opportunities, whereas i know i can’t sing — well…. i take that back… i CAN sing… just no one wants to HEAR me sing, LOL!!!

later!

I used to go to stock car races with my dad. he loved them. Dirt tracks, loud, cars sliding all over the place. It usually took 2 hair washings to get all the dust out of my hair. And I learned to cheer with my mouth closed(yes, it’s possible) or I felt like I was eating half the track.
