7/14: LaToya London in “The Color Purple” from July 15 to Aug. 3 at Fox Theatre

QDT8CX36NPcp_latoya_london_2.jpg

LaToya London, from that diva trifecta which included Fantasia and Jennifer Hudson, is in Atlanta for more than two weeks for the national tour of “The Color Purple.”

I haven’t had a chance to talk to her yet but probably will. Personally, I found her somewhat less interesting than, say, Trenyce or Vonzell Solomon but better than Jasmine Trias. Any fans out there?

If you want tickets, “The Color Purple” is at the Fox Theatre from Tuesday, July 15 through August 3. You can buy them here.

London plays Nettie, Celie’s sweet sister.

Any questions I should ask her if I get some time with her? I may actually attend the opener as well.

-MJ is reading blogs, Idols tour blogs. David Archuleta, Syesha Mercado and my favorite (or actually favorite to mock) Ramiele Malubay. First up for me is Ramiele’s because omg, it’s so fascinating! “Bare” with me now:

Tacoma, Washington!

Omg! Thank you so much to all the fans that waited outside for us. We tried to get to all of you, it’s just hard when they come by telling us “20 minutes, 15 minutes”, then we have to leave. WE try so hard to get to everyone. I also wanted to thank a family who gave me PUTO! Omg I ate it for breakfast and dinner, ahha. I love you guys.

Its so nice to come out to everyone. You really do make our nights and days better. Just bare with us, it’s really hard to get to everyone. And we don’t purposely skip anybody it’s just a really hard task. And sometimes some of us can’t make it out in the afternoon to sign its cause we’re either caught up or catching up on some sleep. Our schedules are crazy I’m sure you guys will understand though.

Also I wanted to put this out there… If any fans come out with signs or shirts of me I will most deff try to get MEET AND GREET passes for after the show to whoever I see first. I won’t be able to get all but fear not fans… my mission is to help get you in after the show!!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS! Bring more signs and stuff so I can have something to find you guys with :)

- Ramiele

David Archuleta likes to write haha instead of :) and he also likes the John Mayer version of “Free Fallin’.” And Syesha had an allergic reaction to some soap and her eyes were all screwed up. And she provides advice when critics go after you for pure gratuitous reasons (as in me and poor Ramiele):

Whenever someone is mean to you show them more love. Whenever someone hurts your feelings try your best to make someone else feel good about themselves. Take all the negativity thrown at you and use it for good.

-Every summer, television writers fly to Los Angeles so networks can pitch their shows and we can get access to stars we might not normally be able to meet. But alas, given the economic circumstances of the day, I haven’t able to go. A writer I really respect, Ellen Gray, from the Philadelphia Daily News, was still able to make it out there and George Martin, the Beatles producer, has been rumored for years to be a possible mentor. He told critics that no way he would ever do it, not his “cup of tea.” Oh, well. They’ve already done Beatles night twice, probably won’t need to do that again for awhile.

Looks like several idols are getting their start from Purple. Nothing wrong with that. The movie was very good.

Morning! We must have had 2 inches of rain yesterday.

LOL! on Ramiele! You really enjoy torturing us, don’t you, Rodney? She’s like a cross between an 80’s valley girl and a Judy Jetson.

Good morning everyone! I think I know why it’s difficult for Ramielle to find her fans in such a large crowd - all 3 of them - at each concert.

Sorry to be stupid, but what the heck is PUTO - I hope it wasn’t some kind of intestinal thing!

flats! It is a sad day - not only are they selling out - it is to a Belgian company! I think there’s a website you can go to, SaveBudweiser.com, and lodge your protest of the merger. What will happen to the horses! I love those horses!!!

i agree, Busch selling out is like … like … argh! i can’t THINK of anything more “American” than Anheuser-Busch/Budweiser!!!

LOL and i agree, what the heck is “PUTO” … sounds … ahhhhhh… different!

I googled Puto:

Puto is a steamed rice cake popular in the Southeast Asian country of the Philippines.

That explains things…

Budweiser/Belgium…I don’t think so. I’m wondering if the Belgium company will own the company but it will continue to be run by the USA group.

For anyone who cares: Angelina Jolie gave birth to twins earlier today. The boy, Knox Leon, weight 5.3 lbs and the girl, Vivienne Marcheline (named after Jolie’s Mother), weight 5 lbs. They sold the first picture rights to a US publication, which has not been named to the public, for a hefty price somewhere between 15 - 20 million. Of course, they SAID, the proceeds will go to charity. IMHO, only when donkeys fly. This is another way to sell your children and make a profit.

Puleese, give me a break!!!!!!!!

By Deirdre

July 14, 2008 1:59 PM | Link to this

Menana…Jolie actually had the babies early yesterday. And the Jolie-Pitts are notoriously generous to charities so I don’t doubt the money will go somewhere where it’s needed.

The philosophy behind selling the pictures is to try to reduce the hoards of papparzzi who will be trying to get the ‘first’ pictures. I’m not sure that will work, others have tried this tactic before…but they weren’t Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

I doubt Angelina is planning on keeping money promised to a charity, the lady is the most generous actress in Hollywood. They already have millions, so don’t be so judgemental of her. For every film she does, she donates 1/3 of her salary to charity. What are you giving? Besides negative vibes.

Robin, thanks for the input — while i agree that a large percentage of the “i’m so beautiful” crowd are only in it for the money, Brangelina seem to truly have (and can well afford) a generous spirit and life style. If only i could give even a small portion of what they apparently do, I’d be happy. As it is, MOST of us are giving all we can, not necessarily financial, and glad to do it!

Please also ignore those who are rude… like most pesky insects, some just seem to never go away…

I should have known that I would get slapped for my comments. While they may give SOME of the money to charity, I will not be scared to say that ALL of it will go. Its fine to give to charities and I find no fault in doing that, I just don’t think it is appropriate to sell pictures of your children in order to gain the monies to give to charities. And for your information, I do give to charities just not the grand scale that the stars do, and I do it by NOT selling pictures of my family. If I ruffled your feathers Robin, I do apologize, but that is my opinion and I am sticking with it.

By linny ,,,=^..^=,,,

July 14, 2008 3:56 PM | Link to this

LOL Menana, i wouldn’t consider you slapped — just disagreed with! And I’m with you — i neglected to mention earlier — selling pictures of your children seems awfully weird, BUT… having acknowledged that, someone is going to be TRYING to take those pictures anyway, so maybe, just MAYBE they decided to go this route to, as someone said, try to avoid the Paparazzi Crush.

All i know is, i sure wouldn’t want to live with someone trying to snatch photos of me and my family 24/7!!!! UGH!!!

Menana…I wasn’t slapping…honest! :-)

Brangelina have probably given more money to charities than at least a dozen well-heeled Hollywood types put together. They are one of the few couples whose money actually DOES go where their mouths are.

Mr Pitt has an entire foundation dedicated to the restoration of a large neighborhood in New Orleans. Where someone like Sean Penn brought a camera crew to film himself wandering through the flooded areas looking for someone to save, Mr Pitt is actually helping.

People are going to be practically killing each other to get pictures of those children anyway, so why not make-em pay for it!?

Actually London (as she likes to be called now) was signed to do the Chicago production of Purple before Tasia did it on Broadway. She was also in a play by Whitfield prior to Purple called “Issues We All Got Em” and got great reviews. She is also currently working on another album. Her first was good, but didn’t get air play or promotion.

July 14, 2008 6:45 PM | Link to this

D: I know that you didn’t do the slapping, and if I gave you the impression that I was referring to you, please rest assure that I wasn’t. Maybe slapping was to harsh of a word, but not a one of us know HOW much a celebrity gives to any charity. Oh, we hear always hear about so and so giving, but we only see and hear what the stars and media wants us to. I have no doubt that many do give and am not opposed to it. The thing that gets me is the selling of baby pictures to donate to the cause, and to make it public. The Hollywood crowds are not the only ones to give birth, but they are the famous ones, and they and the media go ape sh*t over it, as if by giving birth they are doing something no other woman has done. I understand about the paparazzi part of it. I would not want to be hounded by them 24/7, but by being in the limelight as they are, they should expect it.

Nuff said and no hard feelings.

I need to run a car on water, but then again water is in short supply, especially in the town that I live in. I did get the most rain yesterday that I’ve seen in months , it was still less than an inch.

I’m happy that Lauren and Sophie left Nashville Star. I’m also happy that they got called out on the eye-rolling incident from last week.

I still think that there is a one in five chance that Clay is the MOLE, if not him it is one of the other four remaining players.Agree or disagree?

I too, am glad that L&S are gone from NS. They needed to have gone before last night. As far as the Mole, I think Mark is it. But, I totally agree that one of the other four very well could be, if Mark is not.

Did you notice NO one seemed sad they were leaving? Jeff TRIED to sound a little bit sad, but even he was relieved, i’m thinking!!! but Coffey getting more votes that Melissa???? PUHleeeeeeeeeze! Me too, Deirdre. Although laughing I just had to celebrate — when the judges were a little rough on i guess it was Melissa — and he came out totally “normal” and said HE really liked it, it was obviously NOT on the cue cards, he actually sounded like he MEANT it, LOL. I’ll have to watch back before hubby deletes it (hopefully) and see what he actually said… Poor BRC — how he ever made it at all in “the bizness” is just totally beyond me, LOL. Wasn’t he the one who did “Swangin’”? I remember my mom liking it, LOL. oh well.

It’s funny…she’s still pretty much “the blonde lady who can host” … i couldn’t tell you her name if my LIFE depended on it!!!

Morning, friends. I agree with you, Linny, about BRC. However, it was not he who sang “Swangin,” but rather John Anderson, quiet a few years before Achy Breaky and BRC came on the scene. I believe BRC broke through with that song around 1992. Anderson’s song was around ‘82 or ‘83.

Also am happy about JR calling out the brat. The duo should have been gone waaay back. I can’t figure how Coffey is getting more votes than Melissa. She is awesome. I love Gabe, too.

Can’t say that I’m sorry to see them go. It should have happened weeks ago. IMO, the best last night were Melissa and Gabe. Shaun did a decent job on Carrie’s Before He Cheats. Coffey and Ashlee were just so so.
