6/28: Weekend Idol buzz with Ruben Studdard’s marriage, Taylor Hicks, Fantasia in the ATL
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This will be a Paris Bennett-free zone this weekend.
First off, here are some details from the Birmingham News about Ruben Studdard’s wedding to that Atlanta flight attendant Surata Zuri McCants.
Sounded like a very modest, low-key wedding before 300 guests. They plan to stay in Birmingham. Here’s the rather tiny photo from the Birmingham News:

-Fantasia was supposed to be in Atlanta Saturday night at Dreamz Nightclub on Cheshire Bridge Road for a paid nightclub appearance to celebrate her 24th birthday Monday. I was too lazy to actually show up last night and am now trying to confirm details of her visit from the general manager. According to ew.com, she’s been dropped by 19 Management because she wouldn’t heed their advice. But she’s still with J Records.
-Next, check this New York Post report, showing that top “Idol” alums are magic elixirs for Broadway sales. Taylor Hicks, despite a modest role as Teen Angel in the revival of “Grease,” has fueled sales by an estimated $150K a week, according to The New York Post.
-The press in Branson doesn’t seem all that aggressive so I haven’t seen any reviews of the first round of “Idol” finalists including Brandon Rogers, Haley Scarnato, Scott Savol, R.J. Helton, Carmen Rasmussen and Vonzell Solomon. This reservebranson.com blog trods light allows them to spout all sorts of cliches about how honored it is for them to be working together — though the subtext is, to be working at all. The biggest news: Carmen is pregnant and due in December! She must be just entering her second trimester. (She’s been married awhile.)
Soon, I’m going to have to call R.J., who used to live in Cumming, about the experience. Knowing him, he will tell me it’s fabulous, whether it’s fabulous or not.
-Blake Lewis expands upon his earlier comments about being dropped from Arista with ew.com and on his own blog.
“I was just wishing they would have put the word out to me over the last couple months, because let’s face it…. Waiting SUCKS!!!! Oh well. I guess the right time was now. No biggy. I’m still with 19 Recordings and I got a tour and new record on the way. Now all I need is a home for my music. Some place warm and tropical…”

Congrats to Ruben and his new bride. May their life be filled with sunshine.
Been out of touch this week due to being in bed with bronchial pneumonia. I would not wished that on my worst enemy. Just finished reading all the postings for the last few days and what postings they were!! Hopefully, everyone got all the negs out of their system and we can began a happy and friendly chat.
I did see SYTYCD and was not surprised as to whom went home. My favorites are still Twitch and Kherington. The show should be better when they start mixing up the couples and see how they do with new partners.
D: As far as movies, I really want to go see Mamma Mia when it is released. I wondered if MS is actually doing her own singing or not? If she is, that surprises me because I didn’t know that she sang like that.
It was good to see WE back. We miss our regulars when they aren’t present.

Hope you’re feeling better, Menana…have had bronchial pneumonia and I’d rather not do that again.
Yes, Meryl Streep is quite an accomplished singer. They have been trying to get her to do a musical for years. She also sang in the movie Prairie Home Companion.

Thanks D: I am feeling better. Been taking 875mg of Amoxicillin twice a day. Will try to go into work tomorrow to get payroll processed.
I will say that from what I have seem from the previews of MM, MS certainly has great vocals. Am looking forward to seeing it.

Morning!
I can’t believe they’re still going at it over on the Paris blog. What the heck is wrong with people?
Hey Rodney! Are the powers that be at the newspaper still looking for a new blog format or is this it? I’m starting to think that we’ve been taken for a ride.

Good morning all. Looking forward to a kinder, gentler blog today! Menana, glad your feeling better. I had some kind of pneumonia a few years ago - OMG! I was sure I was going to die. Of course, I didn’t go to the doctor either, so I pretty much got over it on my own - about 3 months later!

Good morning! Wow! I cannot believe the blog over the weekend. Makes me sad. I want to believe things are better than that, but reality is what it is. I looked in, but decided not to join in and decided to wait for Monday. Here it is.
We have had a good deal of rain in the afternoons, here in Columbia, SC. It is very welcome, and it always cools us down by at least 15 degrees. However, I heard this morning that we are still minus 6 inches of normal rainfall. Is Lake Lanier still way down? I used to love to “play” on that lake—especially enjoyed the paddle boats.

harrietth - I got a little bit of rain in my area about 6:15 yesterday afternoon, but it didn’t last very long. I think the lake is still down but at least you can’t walk across it - right now anyway.

We got a lot of rain last night and it really cooled the place down for awhile.
In Idol news, Kristie Lee Cook has signed a deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville. Congrats to Kristie.
But come on guys…what about Carly, Syesha and Michael…where are their deals?

D, I agree, where are they? These three are very deserving of a record deal.

maybe they’re being a little picky about what and when they sign on the dotted line for, whereas klc decided to grab the brass right quickly …
we had rain last night, and apparently, although i did not hear it, a tree almost feel on our house! hubby said that it was so loud it shook him and our son (home from college) right out of their chairs — and i never so much as muttered in my sleep!!!
and much cooler and more pleasant in the non-a/c house!
see you guys later!

good lord! a tree almost FELL on our house, i guess we would FEEL it if it wasn’t “almost” right?
sorry y’all i think i’ll quit trying to write anything for a while…maybe i’ll wake up and do better later…

Good for KLC, but I am surprised. I just never thought she was that good. I would be more likely to buy a Taylor Hicks CD than a Kristy Lee Cook CD.
Her deal is with the Nashville side, so it looks like she will be going into country music. Maybe the others didn’t get deals (yet at least) because so many of the other runners up have not really been that successful. They may be hoping for another Carrie Underwood with KLC, or at the very least, a Kellie Pickler.

New thread up which takes us one more step away from the insanity that continues on the Paris blog.
