6/5: David Archuleta signs with Jive Records
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jive Records has signed David Archuleta.
The record label usually skews younger, including last year’s winner Jordin Sparks. It’s also home to Chris Brown, Ciara, the Backstreet Boys, 311, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Nick Lachey, Usher, OutKast, Pink Tool, YoungBloodz and “Weird Al” Yankovic. (Yes, Weird Al!)
“Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true,” states Archuleta. “Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I’m really excited to start working on everything.”
In other “Idol” news:
-This Yahoo music writer does a nice review of various past “Idol” contestants.
-I’m still behind on watching “So You Think You Can Dance.” The auditions focus more on the good than bad compared to “Idol.” And Nigel Lythgoe is far more animated, if not as artfully negative, as Simon. Mary is less annoying than in year’s past. She seems to be restraining her goofy laugh/scream/screech.
-Geri Halliwell of Spice Girls fame danced with (get this!) Chris Daughtry during the Glamour Awards in the U.K. Here’s more info.. Has anyone ever seen the guy really dance?
-Jessica Sierra won’t be appearing in “Celebrity Rehab 2.” No reason given why she withdrew a motion to change a judge’s request she stay away from media while in drug rehab.

lucky lurker, now you will officially be given “points” [to what end, i haven’t figured out] by the official arbiter of position, the one and only flats! congrats!
smirk
Sounds like a good place for Archie to land, Jive Records. Hopefully he will be getting some advice from OTHER than the ‘usual source’ …
SYTYCD - i agree - Nygel definitely has a bit more creativity in his criticisms … and it seems to me, overall, he’s truly interested [assuming the contestant shows proper respect and actually listens to the judges] in giving some positive and constructive criticisms — like last nights (the final night of auditions) the minister who choreographed a truly lovely interpretive dance — HIS problem was actually dancing it and allowing himself to feel instead of just move. or the folks that are untrained but have potential, Nigel and Mary and other judges will try to guide them toward training. and they really DON’T appreciate time wasted with wannabees who are obviously just out for the tv spot … and ARE appreciative of some who THINK they can dance but are not talented enough—but do have a LOVE of dance that sincerely comes through. They don’t just put those folks down, they try to encourage them to be real about it.
ok, i know that was rambly and probably only half-coherent, but maybe you get what i’m saying; and if not, oops, i’m sorry!!!!
i think i need a nap after lunch…see ya! (not that i’ll GET one, but … )

I think it will be interesting to see what kind of record Archie puts out. I still question his marketability if you base it on what we heard from Idol.
So far Jessica Sierra’s only claim to fame from Idol is that she still needs rehab. I’m wondering if she needed rehab BEFORE Idol, too.

In Nashville Star News, this is what I found on a site dedicated to reality show news:
The sixth season of Nashville Star is set to premiere on Monday, June 9 from 9 PM to 11 PM ET on NBC. Billy Ray Cyrus will be hosting, while John Rich, Jewel, and Jeffrey Steele will be serving as judges and mentors. As previously reported by Reality TV Magazine, Taylor Swift will be performing on the Nashville Star 6 premiere episode.
Also, on the Nashville Star 6 premiere, the auditions will be highlighted and the top twelve finalists will be introduced. However, the names and some biographical information about the top twelve finalists has already been revealed.
The Nashville Star 6 finalists will include not only solo artists, but also duets and trios. One of the finalists is a thirty-two year old mother of five, while another finalist act consists of a duet of two high-school friends.
The names of the twelve finalists are Alyson Gilbert, Ashlee Hewitt, Charley Jenkins, Coffey, Gabe Garcia, Justin Gaston, duet Laura Fedor and Sophie Zalokar, Melissa Lawson, trio group Pearl Heart, Shawn Mayer, trio group Third Town, and Tommy Stanley. Be sure to check back to Reality TV Magazine, because complete bios and photos of the finalists will be posted soon.
In the premiere episode, the top twelve finalists will perform in front of the judges, and the judges will eliminate either one or two of the acts from the competition (a recent release from NBC said one act would be eliminated, while a previous release said two acts would be eliminated). In future episodes, viewers will vote to decide which acts will be eliminated from the competition.

and returning to Nashville Star news, i am not at ALL Certain that replacing Anastasia Brown with Jewell will help the show one iota, although i think she’s ok; or that replacing Blake Shelton at all will be a good move — imho he was a really good judge… But one thing i DO know is that Billy Ray Cyrus instead of Cowboy Troy IS a good thing. (Sorry Cowboy Troy, to me you are always ALWAYS too robotic, too stiff. I just don’t enjoy watching you.)

Gooooood Afternoon to All:
Didn’t take Archie long to sign a deal. Bet Big Daddy had alot of imput on the negotiations before it was to HIS satisifaction. Maybe Archie will have good luck with it.
I heard on the radio this morning that Jessica Simpson has a hit country song that made number 31 on the chart on its debut release. They said that was the first time ever an artist has made the chart this low on a first song release from a crossover. I really find that hard to believe, but………
Linny, the 32 year finalist is a mother of five? Wow, she must have been hard at work to have that many at her age. Glad its her and not me. I usually watch NS and enjoy it. Not to crazy about Taylor Swift being on it and some of the judges this time around, but will watch anyway. It generally gives some good entertainment. At times, I think the contestants on that show are better than AI, but than again, I may be biased since I am a country music freak. AI is still my number one favorite. NS is just something between AL seasons that I watch. SO linny, thanks for the info on NS.
Also, last night on Access Hollywood, three former AI contestants, Yolanda (the mail carrier from Florida), Chris (Forgot his last name) and Carmen M are going to be appearing at Branson MO for the summer. Just by being exposed on AI even if you don’t win, you can do alright in the music world, as we have all witnessed. Winning doesn’t necessarily make you a winner. Several come to mind, right??
Got another interview in about 11 minutes so I better get ready for it.
Back later.

mj has come up with another interesting piece. Apparently Jason Yaegar, Luke Menard, Michael Johns and David Cook became really close friends during Hollywood Week and started calling themselves The Four Horsemen. Here’s a segment from Jason’s blog, thanks to mj:
From Jason’s blog:
I showed up in Hollywood week and checked into my hotel room. My roommate had already checked in and his stuff was already moved in. A few moments later the “Song-stealing-greasy-headed-douchebag” as he so lovingly became known to the four of us, (thanks to our wonderful friends at votefortheworst.com) lol!!!!! We instantly became really good friends that whole week. Dave flocked to us during that 1st day…we began talking and hanging and going out to eat. We realized we had to all make the top 50 or it just wasn’t going to be good. Dave, Michael, and myself had all made it through the first cut straight thru to Thurs but Luke had to come back that Wednesday for one last chance to prove himself to the judges. So the 3 of us sat around that entire Wednesday…there was a party for those of us who had made it thru to Thurs but we were just watching as contestants came out one by one. They were made to walk thru the party in front of cameras while we were all celebrating our victory from yesterday. It was really quite awkward. We kept asking each other “Have you seen Luke?” “Did he make it?!” Finally, Luke came out with a smile on his face and we all cheered! : ) Safe for another day….ha ha Well, we all met back up in Hollywood when they cut us from 50 to 24 and the pressure was much more intense. This was the big cut. We all four sat together and watched as each person went up the elevator and watched as each guy came down and we counted the spots left for each of us. What were the odds that all four of us would make it into the final 24?! And sure enough, after much tears and yelling “The Four Horsmen” persevered!!!Most hilarious: Michael John’s buddies calling him by his Vote For the Worst nickname, “greasy-headed song stealing douchebag”. Oh sure, the contestants nevah read about themselves on the internet!

I’m holding my breath until David Archuleta’s album comes out! I love his exquisite, soaring, passionate voice, sweet, endearing personality, and way cute face.
David A. has a really unique musicality, too. Every time he sings a song, he rearranges it on the fly. It’s different every time coz his mood is different…kind of like a hot jazz singer, only he likes pop with soulful styling. I think he’s gonna be huge! I am driving 300 miles one way to see him at the Idol tour and am counting myself lucky.
There are millions of us out her who are CRAZY about David A. By the way, I’m a long way from a teenager and have TONS of company.
A recent poll put his fans at 70% female, 30% male; ages—30% aged 17 and under, 28% ages 18-30, and 42% 30+. So, trying to paint him as someone who appeals to teens only is way off base. This kid will really surprise you! Could be the next Elvis, in my opinion! Love him!
