Sorry. I’m back from vacation and only now getting to updating the blog. Here are bits and pieces you dedicated “Idol” readers already know from other sources:
-David Cook signs with 19 Recordings/RCA. Katharine McPhee and Bo Bice had been signed to RCA at one time. Clay Aiken is still on the label.
-TMZ said the Richmond County Fair called them to find out if Sanjaya’s request for $8,000 was reasonable. At the same fair a year ago, Kimberly Caldwell and Paris Bennett raked in less than $5,000 combined. Do you think $8K for Sanjaya is fair for a fair?
-Katharine McPhee has nabbed another movie role starring in a psychological drama “The Storyteller” with Wes Bentley,according to Hollywood Reporter. Another film she’s in, already completed, called the “House Bunny” is set to come out in theaters in August.
-The charities that will receive the “Idol Gives Back” monies won’t get the donor lists and don’t know yet how much money they’re getting. This story says “Idol” raised about the same as last year at $76 million.
-And David Foster confirmed with People.com that Clay Aiken is going to be his sister’s daddy through artificial insemination.
-Fans of *David Cook downloaded 942,000 of his tracks the five days after he won “Idol.” Incredible!
-Daughtry is on a track “Slow Down” on the upcoming Third Day album “Revelation. Third Day, one of the biggest acts in Christian contemporary music, is from Atlanta.

Rodney … can you “fix” the statement … “And David Foster confirmed with People.com that Clay Aiken is going to be his sister’s daddy through artificial insemination.” — shouldn’t it say that Clay is going to be his “sister’s baby daddy through…” (to use modern lingo) and just being technical and picky here, but he won’t be the sister’s daddy, but the sister’s baby’s daddy

Good morning everyone! Well, I watched The Mole last night for the first time ever. Could someone please explain this show to me. Is it a good thing to be the mole? Why do they form “coalitions”. What part does the mole play? Why do they compete for money but no one wins it? How can you take a test on who you think the mole is that early in the “game”? How are you supposed to figure out who the mole is? What is up with that Nicole chick - do not like her at all. I don’t know if she’s a mole, but I do know what she IS. I am not sure that I like this show, but there was nothing else on. I am hoping it will be more appealing once I understand it. Thanks for the help!

D - At this point, I wouldn’t say it is good. Unfortunately, there was NOTHING on last night, so I turned it on as background. I must say that at first I thought it was part of the AI family - 2 minutes of show, 10 minutes of commercials! If you find something else to watch in its place, suggest you do so!

Thanks for the review, Dawn. With the “2 minutes of show, 10 minutes of commercials” mentality, many network shows will find their audiences relying on their dvrs. As of this season, I dvr almost everything with the exception of Lost and Idol. Can’t be bothered sitting through the endless commercials.

Dawn - The contestants all compete for money. They are supposed to try to win the money to increase the pot. The mole’s job is to keep them from winning too much money, and to throw people off the trail of the mole. Many of the contestants will do things on purpose to make them seem “mole-like” to throw people into thinking they are the mole. Then they will answer the questions in the quiz wrong and be eliminated. They are supposed to take notes the whole time – hence, the journals. For us, as the viewers, there are all kinds of clues as to who the mole is – but I never figure it out.

WP —- for starters, what position do you hold? i’m a Legal Assistant, technically (that is … sometime secretary sometime paralegal sometime fileclerk sometime runner sometime chief-cook-and-bottle-washer) although i do actually have a JD, i never did the bar thing due to family issues, and just used the edumacation for the benefit of my mast… err… bosses (grin)

Dawn - one person is hired by the show to be the mole. Not sure you can say “it is good to be the mole”, but it is good to be paid!! If you are not the mole, it is good to make people think you are the mole, they will get the quiz wrong and be eliminated. So far no one has guessed the identity of the mole before the end of the show - they just have a person in mind and use that to answer the questions on the quiz. After a couple more shows, you might understand it a little better.

I just read on the AJC front page where Hugh Jarrett died. “Hugh Baby” Jarrett was a rock n roll icon as a member of The Jordanaires, Elvis’ back-up singers. He was a long-time Atlanta-area (Woodstock) resident and for some time was a local DJ. I remember him on WSB around 1980 when he was on nights. He also visited the club where Paul Peek and I played music and from time to time would “sit in” with our band.
Did any of you know him?

Flats I have to sort of stay in the middle on the Tech vs. Georgia issue. My wife, Father in-law and Brother in-law all went to Tech. Both of my Sons and my other Brother in-law went to UGA. As you can see it is a family divided. I like the Dawgs more than Tech and they all know it however. To be honest though when they play each other at the end of the season I want whichever team it will benefit most in the polls to win as I want a team from my state to be ranked as high as possible no matter which one it is. That said though it has been easy to see which one was the best the last seven years Huh? GO DAWGS! I went to UTC and played there two seasons so deep down inside I am a MOC!

Yea D. we havent had any bloodshed yet but with my oldest Son it has been a close call a couple of times. He is the biggest Dawg fan you have ever seen and that probably includes Flats. When UGA beat Tech 51-7 several yeras ago we watched it at my Tech Brother in-laws home and there had been a bunch of ragging going on for a couple of weeks between them and some serious betting as well. When the game was over my crazy son dumped 100 pounds of dog food in the middle of the living room floor and was dancing around it barking like a DAWG and yelling let the big Dawg eat!Needless to say that didnt go over real well with my Brother in-law and Sister in-law. My son did clean it up though and paid to have the carpet cleaned. I have to admit however that with all the ribbing thet went on prior to the game it was somewhat deserved and I was sort of proud of my boy for coming up with the idea LOL! Is that wrong? Ok Flats you have me pegged :-)
