4/17: Kristy Lee Cook exit interview
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Kristy Lee Cook came across as poised and articulate, largely avoiding the pablum and cliches that came out the mouths of Ramiele and Chikezie. Some have complained she was a bit of a country robot on stage and was not the emotional lump that Brooke sometimes is. But I ultimately liked her for her rather grounded and rationalized approach to the show.
She admitted never having sung much in the way of non-country tunes and was hamstrung by the song choices during the semifinals, when she was also ill. (In past years, she would have had a greater chance to show off her country chops earlier.)
She felt more comfortable post Beatles. And she defended her take on “Eight Days a Week.” When I asked her about that, she felt the judges’ negative comments shaped America’s opinions about it.
*I’ve had mixed feelings on it. A lot of people actually liked it. A lot of people I worked with on the stage and the band. They absolutely loved the version… I thought it was kind of cool and deserved a bit more praise. I did make it my own.” One lesson she’s learned is to ignore the judges when watching the show and making her own judgment.
Cook said picking “God Bless the USA” wasn’t necessarily at attempt to save her own hide by going the patriotic route. Rather, she said her dad, a Vietnam vet, loved the song so she was thinking about it when she saw it on the list of songs the year she was born. Then her sister called and suggested the same song, which Kristy has sung before. “That was an instant yes in my mind,” she said.
Her fiance Andy also proposed to her secretly in a sauna March 15 and did it officially on “Idol” this week, though I don’t think that ended up on camera because I don’t remember it.
She would have sung “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” for Andrew Lloyd Weber. That would have been a serious challenge!
Cook was naturally surprised she got booted this week. “My performance was pretty strong this past week. I’m happy I went out on that note.”
How about serenading Simon? “He later said, ‘You made it kind of awkward for me.’ I said, ‘Now you know what it’s like!’ “
And being in the bottom three so many times.: “I kind of built up a stamina for it and kind of got a little tougher each time, and finally, kind of learned how to control the emotions that were coming from the whole situation.”
In other “Idol” news:
-I decided to check on my top 12 on March 8 before David Hernandez was eliminated. I’m not doing too badly. I actually had Michael Johns ranked at No. 8. That’s the only one I’ve gotten right so far exactly right. (I had Kristy Lee at 12, Chikezie at 11, Ramiele at 10 and Amanda at 9.) But my top 7 were: 1- David A 2- David C 3- Syesha 4- Jason 5- David H. (whoops!) 6- Carly 7- Brooke. I was clearly optimistic on Syesha but who knows?
-My bud Chris Sligh does a fine job sifting through the Mariah performance show.. He was bored by David A., underwhelmed by Carly, impressed by Syesha, okay with Brooke, enjoyed Kristy, rocked by David C. and pimped Jason C.
-I did want to note that Tuesday’s ratings (23.6 million) for “Idol” were the lowest Tuesday show in five years, since season two, according to Hollywood Reporter. The results show finished at around 23.3 million, down about 23 percent from a year earlier. the biggest gap this year (excluding “Idol Gives Back”). And thanks to Michael Johns, I had my best week last week on the blog in terms of page views at about 60,000 though this blog is still down significantly in traffic from a year ago.

The judges’ opinions on 8 Days a Week certainly did NOT sway my opinion of it. I still remember watching it live and thinking it was terrible. I can see where people loved it and hated it, but I hated it.

No, I like “Archie”… but if he continues to give us boring performances then i will say he shouldn’t win. As you should know my next 2 to go should be Brooke and Jason. Don’t really care the order, but personally I think jason is the worse singer of the 2.
And I also want to add that although I love that there are instruments this year, I think it was a mistake to do it. It takes away from the singing (jason and brooke) and serves as a disadvantage to some of the best singers this year (syesha and carly), this is evident in that of the 6 they have been in the bottom the most, well other than brooke.
It is basically like this: Looking at the 6 left, it’s like saying at the beginning of the season “Hey, if you don’t play instruments, don’t expect to win this year”

This is a small world. Bet you both know my family. I know alot of people from LaGrange.
Just watched Access Hollywood and they did an interview with Kristy. She had nothing bad to say at all about anyone at AI. She did say that after she finished her song last night, which she sung to Simon, he told her that she put him in a tight spot. Her comment was “Now you know how it feels”. Maybe he will cut some slack on the others after that.
Still say Brooke or Jason needs to go next week. It should be a very interesting night. Guess time will tell.

Know where Hey 27 is. My dad grew up in the Carrollton area. Don’t know if names can be posted or not or I would give the last name WE. Brother graduated from LaGrange High, so did his two sons.
KIA will offer much needed employment in the Troup County area. Around The Valley area as well. Maybe as far as Auburn AL. It for sure will booster the ecomony there.

Thought you would know. Don’t know about the best, but they are good. Are we the ones talking tonight? It is pretty quite after such a busy day. Had some intense conversations today. I’m with you JT. Brooke may last another week, possibly two. She has some talent, but some others that are gone had more as well as better stage presence. To me, she just seems not quite comfortable with the whole scene. Of course, that may be just the way I see it.
Harm: Her whole demeanor was offensive IMO. I can’t remember if I have ever seen her post here before. Have any of you? You don’t have to be blond to be pretty. I’m a redhead, does that make me unattractive? Don’t think so. I am so with you that Halle Berry is much more prettier. In fact, I would be willing to bet my next paycheck that Halle wins this with no hands barred. Maybe she won’t be back.

speaking of bacon, have you seen the fast food commercial with the two young ladies waiting in a bar to meet some guys? one sniffs and says she smells bacon… the other shows the whatever wrap/sandwich thingy with bacon in her pocketbook. Says guys can’t resist the smell of bacon… first girl is skeptical… next scene, 3 guys come in and walk straight to second girl, asking things like “what is that you’re wearing” “love that scent” and such things… i thought of the blog discussion about bacon, LOL!

Flats - congrats on your teams. My mom is the huge Braves fan - she has weekend season tickets, and she comes down from Chattanooga every weekend home game. She is extremely excited that Andruw is playing this weekend - her favorite Braves player (next to Mighty Murphy) and she made a sign for him. So, I will be spending 9 hours on both Sat & Sun at the ballpark this weekend. I am her BBF (Braves Best Friend).

Menana, good mooooooorning! The story i heard on the news last night … March 17 (St. Patrick’s day) fiance proposed in the sauna after she snuck past the security people and met him. They later filmed an official proposal, but evidently, according to Rodney (i think) didn’t air it … should have, tho, LOL! THe news report last night said that they were planning on getting married NEXT June (as in 2009, i think was meant)
so no, i don’t think she’s already hitched up with the lad.

JT, if we had a Carl’s, I be taking a trip there myself.
I use to go to a club called “Cowboys” I think. Seems like it was in Kennasaw. They had on of those bulls. The girls would get half tippsy and go for a ride. Sometimes two would ride at the same time.

Hey Harm I’m back on. Been out for a couple hours.
Boy, what a disgusting little troll we have going here. Best to just ignore the pitiful ignoramus since he can’t seem to have a decent mature adult conversation. More’s the pity!!!!
In the new Peoples magazine that just came out is a good article on Michael Johns. I just finished reading it and in it he said that at first we was really bummed and depressed on being outst but now he has come to terms with it and is at peace. Said the response from the public helped him there. Also, he heard from fellow Aussies Keith Urban and Nichole Kidman. They told him to keep his chin and head up, not to let being voted off deter him in any way. What good advise they gave.. IMO, MJ doesn’t have much to worry about. Thought this little tidbit may be of interest to some of you.
