4/16: Top 7 Idol elimination night. Surprise! Again! Kristy Lee Cook a goner

Well, we all got it wrong again! Kristy Lee Cook, the country gal I thought was safe, is going home.

Cook started with so much promise (“Amazing Grace”!). Then she went into a long funk yet somehow lasted week in, week out. She was a perpetual bottom three dweller, that stinker of an “Eight Days a Week” still stuck in our craw weeks later. Then she dug out that Lee Greenwood nugget a couple weeks ago, a song pick that impressed everyone (including Simon) for her shrewdness. Her “Anyway” last week was a highlight. The consensus was she was on the rise, that she could even finish in the three or four.

But for the second week in a row, “Idol” threw us for a loop! Her fans again must have figured she was safe while Brooke and Syesha gutted it out.

In her farewell, Kristy Lee does a lovely serenade of Simon of “Forever.” By the time she was out, I liked her more in her departure than for much of her run. And she always looked hot!

Idol did the annual split into threes and try to get a fourth to pick which group to join.

And they faked out Syesha by sticking her in the “safe” group, then swapped her with David Cook, who was obviously safe. They also tried to get David Archuleta to pick which group to join and he did the “sit in.” (Who did that before? I’ll have to go back in my files here to find out what happened the past three seasons.).

Cook helped him out by joining him Indian style in the center. And well, Cook was right. He was safe with Carly (!!) and Jason.

So the bottom three were gals as expected: Kristy Lee, Syesha and Brooke. The bottom two were Brooke and Kristy Lee. Simon says Kristy will go. And he’s right!

Okay, let me re-wind to the beginning. An excruciatingly boring group sing of “One Sweet Day.” A respectable performance by Elliott Yamin. A rather toothless (or let’s say, vocally constrained) Mariah Carey. More jokes between the judges over silly viewer questions. And that weird marionette Ford ad. Did I miss anything?

Oh, yah— Andrew Lloyd Weber is the mentor next week.

In the meantime, here’s other “Idol” news:

“His brother came to town a few days ago, and he’s not in the best of shape and you can tell it’s affecting David and everything,” says dancer Lacey Schwimmer, of So You Think You Can Dance, who has stepped out with David recently. “But I think it’s a good thing that he’s here because it shows that his brother is still supporting him.”

  • If you are a fan of comic Lewis Black, check out his hilarious “debate” show tonight in which two comics argue over two topics and Lewis deems which one is more evil. Last week, it was Dick Cheney vs. Paris Hilton. (Cheney won.). Tonight at 10:30 p.m., it’s high school vs. American Idol. So is getting noogies and wedgies more evil than listening to yet another version of Heart’s “Alone”? Is taking the SAT worse than Paula’s ramblings? We shall see. It’s Comedy Central’s “Lewis Black: Root of All Evil.” I’ll review it tomorrow.

I think I’ll watch Elliott and Mariah, two good artists. Love Lewis Black, thanks for pointing it out.

I am over Carly, she can go. She hasn’t once lived up to her potential. Plus she is such a liar, she has met Mariah before. I read an old article about it.

I hope a girl goes because I am not ready to give up any more of my guys. Even Lil Archie.

yeah, I’m over Carly, too. Unlike some here, I like Brooke and Jason with their softer styles and instrument playing. It seems like people are more forgiving of voices and musicality if the singer has a BIG, screaming voice rather than a mellow folk style. For me, this is one of the best years yet because I really like so many people in the remaining group. Last year at this time I really didn’t care who won. But I watched anyway, of course…

I like it when the bottom three are discussed and Kristy’s name is not mentioned.

At the start of the competition I was a fan of Michael Johns. I really thought he might win until I heard David Archuleta sing and saw how the the judges and the audiences reacted.

Back then I thought David Cook might not make the final 12. I have come to be very impressed with David Cook.

Personally, I think David Archuleta would benefit career-wise from a first place finish more than David Cook would. What do you think? Do you think it would be better for David Cook to finish second or third than it would be for him to finish first?

As to Rodney’s question about the ratings, I think the unexpected early exit of Michael Johns is the reason ratings were down last night. I don’t think he would have won, but I think most regular viewers would agree he’s easily one of the top four this season.

Here’s something else to consider: Remember how everyone was touting the talent of this year’s guys? Well, only three of the seven remaining contestants are guys. I think this is a factor in the low ratings as well.

By JTesla

Emily, death metal.

At least if they asked me that is what it would be.

By War Eagle

April 16, 2008 7:34 PM | Link to this

Death metal would be nice. Goober would have to sing something other than elevator tunes.

After notcing Carly in the bottom, fans picked up their phones to keep her through, though still in the b3 so she’ll be ok. Though Brooke SHOULD leave, it’ll be Syesha unfortunately, after one heck of a performance. But hey, whatever. I’ll be all over that instrument post tonight!

Same thing will happen with Syesha as did Ace Young.

B3 top 12, safe top 11, B3 top 10, safe top 9, B3 top 8, leaving top 7.

By emily

April 16, 2008 7:52 PM | Link to this

ha! but whose new album would they pimp if it was Death Metal week???

ps - i really wish they’d bring back big band week. that was really cool and made those season 1 kids have to stretch and prove themselves!

Emily…I believe the theme next week is Andrew Lloyd Webber music….in other words…Broadway! But Webber writes wonderful music so it might be better than your average Broadway themed show.

Willowcup…both Carly and Syesha have the “big, screaming voice” and we’re not very fond of them either.

Rodney….what channel is Lewis Black on? Comedy? Fox?(that was a joke guys)CNN?

i think its time for brooke to go. the judges have all babysat her for too long. they don’t judge her like they do all the others and shes not that good either. didn’t know carly had already met mariah, interesting. broadway sounds good.

By Deirdre

April 16, 2008 8:21 PM | Link to this

I vote for Brooke leaving. Carly and Syesha have potential….Brooke is the same every week. I wouldn’t be at all upset if Jason went either(speaking of the same every week)

heybud - Lil Archie NEEDS to win in order to have a successful career. David Cook would probably benefit more from NOT winning.

I too LOVED big band night. I have always loved that style of music. That was the night when I knew Kelly would win the whole competition.

WE, Rodney mentioned above that Elliott Yamin will be singing tonight as well as Mariah Carey. Elliott came in 3rd a couple years ago - LOVE that guy.

By emily

April 16, 2008 8:30 PM | Link to this

yeah, it was one of my favorite nights they’ve ever done - it made the kids really show how “big” their voices were and showed the flaws in the weak ones because you can’t fake that kind of music…. they could get harry connick, jr. as a mentor!

and i agree - kelly’s “stuff like that there” was absolutely phenominal. and that’s coming from someone born in ‘81! :)

By Deirdre

April 16, 2008 8:32 PM | Link to this

I wonder why they’ve never done a 40’s night since season 1. The songs are very melodic and singable….maybe it’s just been too long!

Deirdre & JT, thanks for the response to the earlier post confirming the icky tattooed guy last night was Carly’s husband. Too freaky for me, and I think too much focus on him would certainly not be good for her! And re Simon always trying to feel up Paula. I thought maybe the 2 of them were actually a “secret” couple, but Simon doesn’t strike me as the touchy-feely sort even if they were.

Willie - my apologies for the 2 questions!

By Deirdre

April 16, 2008 8:48 PM | Link to this

WE…we haven’t heard from Menana in awhile…..I hope she’s ok.

Dawn…I think Simon is the same kind of ‘touchy/feely’ as your average middle school boy. He seems to focus on throwing her off(probably because it’s so easy to do) and she puts up with it. I would have blackened one of his eyes by now!

By J

Good to hear WE. When you say it was good, it must really be good.

You know I forgot about something Simon said last night… it seemed like he wanted Paula to ask one of the contestants if she was the milk to Mariah’s donut or something like that. All I really caught was milk and donuts, I kind of wish Paula had repeated it. It seems to be the typcial comment that Simon says to her to try and throw her off.

I have about 8,000 songs on my ipod, and there are more than a few completely junk songs & groups on there. Have to say even I don’t have any Elliot Y songs on there. I could have a 500 GB hard drive i-Pod and still would not have him. Dude is just not the bomb, as Randy would say. On the other hand, I would be happy to have a picture of Ms. Cook on my i-Pod even if she just hums in the song.

Ok uh well i was wrong i’m going to stop worrying about Syesha haha… but honestly, as much as I hated Kristy for sticking around, I’d rather have had her stay over Brooke. Brooke is just getting sooo annoying i cannot even start on that. But it’s like, anyone who sings with an instrument it’d be awkward for them to leave. Anyway, next week should be interesting. And I think I KNOW this time who is leaving next week…but we’ll see.

Unfortunately, I will be out next tuesday until around 9:30, 10, so i can’t vote til then- bleh! And I’ll have to look up the numbers on my ownw. That’s too bad though, I hate missing the live performance shows.

brooke should have been eliminated based on her TRAINWRECK performances the last few weeks… she’s totally lost her confidence and i’m getting really tired of hearing the judges baby her and archie every week! i’m convinced after all that pimping last week that the judges aren’t listening to the performances AT ALL -they’ve just decided it’s going to be a 2 david finale -regardless of how boring and awful they sound!! and both david cook and carly sucked of EPIC PROPORTIONS last week and all they said to david was “oh it wasn’t yer best performance..” wtf?! srsly starting to hate Randy and his ridiculous hypocrisy! Tragic that Kristy left before Tiny Tears.

Brooke is going to have a VERY difficult time in the music business if she doesn’t grow a backbone and learn to take criticism. Simon is positively a lamb compared to some I’ve met. I had a guy throw a phone at me as I was entering his office. Just ENTERING mind you. I hadn’t played him a thing and was there only because HE had requested I meet with him. He’d just gotten off the phone with his ex-wife and lost it. Didn’t remember the incident a month later when I returned. That’s why you can’t take things personally and have to learn to listen. Brooke does neither. She is whiney, argumentative, arrogant and bratty as well as a mediocre singer and pianist.

Ok, I just finished watching the show on my DVR and had to finally post a comment on this thing.

1- The group song was terrible. Everyone was very “PITCHY”. 2 - Jason Castro sucks. Please stop voting for him!!! 3 - Syesha rocks!!! Her performance last night was incredible. (David Cook’s was too, but I voted for Syesha because she has not deserved being in the bottom 3 all these times.) 4 - What was going on with Mariah’s performance at the end? It was not sounding good! Was one of her background singers off or something? 5 - Brooke does not have psychological problems. I think she’s just a really sweet person.

And that’s all for now…

AI addict: I noticed that too. Most of the song sounded good, but near the end we kept hearing this sound similar to Mariah when she goes way up there and does that whistly-bird sound, only it wasn’t her and it was the wrong notes for the song. Maybe a backup singer, but I think too it might have been coming from the synthesizer.

How do white people with dreds (sp?) handle the whole hair-washing thing? Do they wash it? If so, how do they get it rinsed out good? When they get tired of that ‘do, do they have to cut their hair off and start over, or what? I’m so confused.

I am constantly being disappointed by the results. I thought Chikeze was great and was sent home way to early. I thought Michael was given a bum deal last week. Now KLC gets tossed prematurely and I’m even more P** off.

Look, the more I watch of this show the less impressed with it I become. It seems that in the text message tweener era the deck is stacked against anyone I would like to see win Idol.

My “WTF is wrong with the world” forecast:

Final four: Brooke, Jason, Arch, DC.

Final Three: Jason, Arch and DC.

Final Two: Jason and Archuletta.

Winner: Archuletta.

My reaction: one less show I’ll be watching in the future.

First of all, kudos to the AJC for not putting a spoiler on the front page. :) Great job!

Secondly, it’s about bloody time that KLC is gone, although I have to give her the award for “most improved contestant.” She sure did lay some eggs earlier. The Lee Greenwood song was a little cheesy for my taste, but I thought she did all right on “Anyway” (possibly because I’ve never heard the original). I don’t care for her, but then I don’t like any country music.

David Cook FTW! He may not be eye candy, but he is definitely ear candy.

Neg,If this world was fair and did the right thing, David Cook would win.

We all know that our world isn’t always fair and the best decision isn’t always made.

I haven’t got a clue how this one is going to end, I’m not even attempting to try and guess the outcome.

Harmony, I remember Jason said a while back that his hair has been in dreds for years - maybe four years, can’t remember for sure. But can you imagine your hair if you twisted it up into dreds and left it like that for four years? Yikes!

Gregt: It’s not that remarkable, when you consider that most of the people really liking her were guys, and most of them don’t even try to pretend it’s because of her voice.

Jason irks me just as much as Kristy. In a contest like this, I think it’s just wrong when a mediocre talent outlasts a strong talent just because people think (s)he looks good. (Though like Rodney said, I too liked her far better in defeat tonight than I did in the hunt for weeks.)

But for the record, I thought Kristy looked great when she was looking so natural at her first audition. The more they straightened her hair and glammed her up, the less impressive she looked, IMO. But that’s just me. : )

I know exactly why Kristy Lee Cook is gone, and the reason is JUSTIN! You said last week that you were going to get her eliminated, who’s on your hit list this week? Please say Archie!

Well at least my prediction streak is safe, 100% accuracy since the top 24!

This leaves Syesha as the eye candy, but she is kind of bland.

Harmony, you read my mind when it comes to Brooke: you can’t be cute and mentally unstable, it just isn’t possible.

We should be in store for an interesting show next week. There is still an upper and lower tier, it remains to be seen who will be able to crack that top. I think that all the David’s have to do is make it to the top 3, just past the goosy voting 4th through 6th spots.

I was really surprised with Kristy Lee Cook’s departure. I thought she’d really turned it up the past few weeks.

Next week, Carly is a goner. I think the irish accent was cute at first, but now that the field has narrowed, an irish tattoo artist won’t play in the heartland. Eric Gray

Just catchin’ up on today’s postings.

Linny, Jason sang “Daydream” in the Top 12 guys. I think that’s what captured my interest in him - reminiscent of my teen years. I was a fan of the Lovin’ Spoonful.

The hair doesn’t bother me. My daughter is 20 now and her first boyfriend was in a rock band and had long hair. She remarked recently that she was surprised that I didn’t freak over his hair. My reply: my generation introduced the long-haired look,(at least in the 20th century) and her Grandpa hated the “sissy” boys I dated! Guess there’s still some hippie in me.

Finally…redemption! The girl is gone! No offense to Kristy Lee but c’mon, we all know she should have left long ago in all fairness. Had she gotten better? Yes. Good enough to stay? No way. Rock on David Cook. And as far as the two Davids? Both are great. But DC is far more versatile than Lil’ Archie. And I’m hopin Jason hangs on to the top 3 or 4 with Carly.

OK - here is my understanding of dreds. First, it is not considered a hair style - it is considered a lifestyle (whatever that means)! In the beginning, you can only wash the hair about every week or so. Once they are “formed” you can only wash them every 3-4 days. You have to be careful to let them dry completely before covering them or mold will form (EWWWW). You have to watch for bugs which can on occasion be a problem. There. I’ve told you more than I know, but it is enough to know I won’t try to grow dreds.

By phillyhu

April 17, 2008 7:42 AM | Link to this

DC looks to have a great future without having to win this thing, and for that reason he may not. I think Arch has the most to gain from a win here. And for Kristy Lee, it really sucks to lose the eye candy, but if she can connect with the right song writer she may have a good future in CW.

ok, here’s my opinion….I think they had it right with Brooke and Kristy Lee, but not Syesha….with that said, although Syesha has a spectacular voice, I don’t see her winning this thing….my guess is that the final 3 will be David Cook, David Archuletta and Carly Smithson, (even though she’s been in the bottom 3 several times)….I just don’t understand how people are choosing Jason over Carly….it’s obvious the girl has a TREMENDOUS voice!!!! Well, my final prediction, David Cook wins!

Morning mushblogians!

Well, dialidol had Kristy as ‘safe’ so that shoots them out of the water!

I would much rather Brooke had left, or Jason. Kristy was just stepping into her own shoes and singing pretty well! Brooke, however, was horrible Tuesday and must have a coalition of nannies supporting her.

FINALLY, America got it right. No more Kristy Lee Cook. Even though she stepped up her game these past few weeks, that does NOT cover up the fact that the other 80% of her performances were horrible. My gosh, the girl never shuts up. They play her up to be Miss sweet and innocent, but one look into those eyes and you can tell she can go from 0 to Beotch in lickity split. She just needs to sing, smile and leave the stage. I thought it was funny when she jumped on Simon for saying Kristi would probably go, “HEY! HEY!”. Hey, Dierdre! I agree totally about KLC. She was just coming into her own and gaining confidence each week. Brooke, on the other hand, has continually gone downhill IMO. And her back-talking and constant need to explain is really wearing thin with me. I really liked her at first, but now that I have gotten to “know” her a bit, I don’t like what I see. Brooke’s “pouting” has gotten really old. Maybe it’s the nanny in her. :)

Maybe I’m out of the Idol demographic(43), but all of Syeesha’s songs sound the same and Carly practically screams everything. As far as vocalists, DA and DC are the best, IMHO. I’ll go out on a linb and say all male final.

OK.. I am trying to figure out how we have gone from possibly the most talented top 12 in the history of the show to what is arguably the WEAKEST top 6 since season 3 and maybe of all time.

We have ONE legitimate star - David Cook.

One excellent singer in the liplicker, but his personality quotient is ZERO!

Then the other four are BLECH squared.

We have Jason the SONG WHISPERER.

Babbling Brooke, who I love the whole Carly Simon/Carole King vibe, but she is not top 6 material.

And then Syesha and Carly, who both sing beautifully when they just sing, but both of them INSIST on screaming to the top iof thier lungs and torturing dogs ears nationwide.

MEanwhile, the last two weeks have seen two artists knocked off who I will predict sell more albums than anyone else from this season except the obligatory 500K-800K for the winner, and the Daughtry level that David Cook will sell.

Anyway, I am rapidly losing interest in this season.

I agree that Brooke has gotten too whiney and too emotional. Maybe she is still there because they want to avoid the emotional drama of eliminating her, for those who believe AI is fixed. They need to put her on meds and wait for them to kick in.

Well……………

I really don’t think Kristy Lee should have gone last night. It should have been Brooke.

Pretty girl, but Syesha bugs me. I hope she doesn’t win.

Carly is just gross and the husband ewwwwwwwwwwwww. Great voice though. Last performance not great.

David Cook looks sooooooo dirty and those grimy teeth and that big HEAD. Hate his voice. Sorry

David Arch annoys me with his reactions. Great voice, just not a mature voice.

You all think that Brooke has a mental problem. I say get the paramedics for David Arch if he is booted off.

Jason doesn’t have to sing. He can just stand there. He is GOURGEOUS. His eyes are so sexy……..

Elliott Yamin sounded great last night. Love that little troll.

Mariah didn’t sound good to me. Am I the only one that think Mariah looks like a cute monkey. LOL!!!

Although I like both Mariah and Elliot their song choices were last than stellar. I didnt get either one. All I heard was bye bye bye byeeeeeeee! Ok..dont know who wrote the song but it sucked. The only song I can recall with repeated saying of bye bye bye was NSNYC’s BYE BYE BYE(a different song with a Better hook). I wish she had wore the silver mini(shining sequins)the black one makes her look cheap. Love her to death though. Worst song I ever heard her sing..voice off key and pitchy in spots..too low in others and too shrill too the point that it sounded like chalk screetching across a black board. grade: D-..lacks pep, didnt grab my attention. Nothing like any of the hits from her No.1s cd(that I cant seem to locate:-( After hearing the idols butcher her catalog of songs, I wanted to hear the originals by Mariah again. Mariah joins the long list of great vocalists that Has such a great catalog of wonderful classic hits that if she never made another record it would not matter. But like most artists I dont think she can quite hit those notes she did twenty years ago still they can take us down memory lane by perfoming them again and again and we will never tire because she is the original artist to perform them and they are Her songs. Everyone knows(or should know) No one voice(or looks) remain the same 20-25 40yrs later and people are stupid to think other wise. If she tours it wont be the new stuff that will have people jumping out her seat but her old hits even if in lower register it O.K. long as its Mariah. Elliot.poor little troll. and I really like him..such a good voice..such poor material( he needs to fire his manager(along with Ruben and Fantasia’s) hate to see such a great talent waisted on fluff. He just didnt put no toot in my horn. signed extremely good looking lonely old man:-)

Saying that Brooke needs mental help is simply a way of expressing how tired we are of her whining, arguing, crying and not singing very well.

She’s a beautiful girl and seems really nice. Other than that, she’s NOT going to win American Idol. She will have to leave at some point.

Calling people you don’t know ugly names because they don’t have the same opinion as you suggests to me that Brooke is not the only one who needs some help.

WOW. Princess. You. Have. Serious. Problems. You. Need. To. Focus. On. What’s. Important. Here. This. Is. A. Blog. People. Express. Their. Opinions. You. Can. Too. But. NOTHING. Gives. You. The. Right. To. Call. People. Names.

Understand something here, doll-face. I LIKE BROOKE. I too think she’s a nice lady with a sweet personality. HOWEVER having said that, I also think that she’s having some emotional problems coping with this competition, and it IS showing in her behavior. That, dear Princess, is an OPINION, one to which I am entitled, and which I am also entitled to EXPRESS. I am not slandering or libeling Ms. Brooke. I am expressing concern and making observations from my point of view. Calling me a cow, when you know NOTHING about me (or anyone ELSE here) is not only childish, it’s inappropriate.

NOW. if you have an opinion you’d like to express about something, do so. But stop with the name calling, before you find yourself being called some rather unsavory things yourself!

BY THE WAY: my little chill out was meant in light-hearted humor, but since you took it seriously, i’ll say it again, seriously: CHILL OUT

Linny, If ajc caved in and changed their headlines to appease the whines of one apparently very spoiled reader, then I am really disappointed in ajc.

I mean, really… that has to be a joke. Idol is the biggest show in the country. Virtually every news show starts off with who is out. Almost every morning show interviews who just got voted off. Every radio break talks about who’s gone. Every internet website has articles on who was voted off. How can a person come onto a internet news website board about American Idol and complain about spoilers? That can not be serious, it has to be someone troll trying to be funny?

Princess - I don’t have blonde hair, thank goodness, because it would look freakish with my sepia-colored skin tone, but, that doesn’t mean that I’m jealous of Brooke. I am not on AI because I have absolutely no singing ability, but, again - that doesn’t mean that I’m jealous of Brooke. She is participated in a contest in which she will be judged on everything she does. That being said, this is a blog, not a dissertation, so anyone with a computer can participate. If you don’t like someone’s opinion of Brooke, tough toenails! Calling someone a cow doesn’t make you pretty or any smarter than a 5th grader!

Um Princess. There’s one HUGE flaw in your analysis. We’ve ALL seen Brooke pout and talk back and make faces and cry, and it was reported that she actually had a breakdown the first time she was in the bottom 3. Fact. Not presumed fact, but visible, re-playable recorded facts. None of us said we KNOW her, but that we OBSERVED her behavior.

However, calling people COWS and having a temper tantrum because we don’t cave in to YOUR opinion … oh and by the way, saying things like “I know what it is like to be blonde and pretty and have cows like you make up crap just because they are jealous.” … do not lead to much credibility on YOUR part.

Just sayin’ — yes you can state your opinion all you want. But name calling only makes your opinions look immature and childish. But hey, have at it … at the grand old age of what — 14? 16? you know so much more than anyone else that it’s hard to imagine anyone would DARE contradict you!

The one thing I’ve learned in my life (which I keep needing to be reminded about) is…There’s no use arguing with closed minded people.

I don’t like Brooke’s singing and I hope she’s eliminated next week!

I think this show has stressed her to the point that she cries a lot, and talks a lot. She’ll be, IMO, better off when the pressure of competing is lifted. She doesn’t seem(again, my opinion) that she’s handling it very well.

Not about idol, but a question regarding board etiquette. I have noticed that most belligerent people that post on internet board always seem to resort to insults about peoples size. Fat comments, cow, push away from the table seems to be a common remark. My question is “Why?” It is on every board that I read. I have never seen anyone posting on these boards, I don’t know what they look like, for me to call them fat, or try to describe them in any way at all would simply show my own ignorance. Most of the people that I know grow out of these types of childish insults around the 1st grade. Are there that many preschoolers online these days? Are these people that are so insecure with their own self worth that they are reduced to insulting others to make themselves feel better? I’m just sayin (lol) It really makes me feel sad for them. How low does your intelligence have to be before the best comeback you can muster is “Yeah, well, your fat”

Hey! They are keeping Syesha in the “cold” category by not really exposing her to the audience. We see her, but can’t really connect with her. For instance, out of the seven contestants left, she was the only one who Ryan didn’t talk to on stage as he was giving their results. All the others, he asked them questions, but not Syesha. He just got right to her results. And it wasn’t a time thing, because he had time to talk to “Monchichi” (I love that, by the way, LOL). Why don’t they want us to know that girl?

Y’all leave Princess alone. Anyone who has to nickname herself “Princess” to feel good and obsess over eating and weight 24/7 on a singing blog must have issues with her looks. What do cows, blonde hair and the word Princess have to do with Idol. Nadda dayum thang!

I have a question.

When Princess calls us ‘cows’, does she mean everybody? Cuz ‘cows’ has a distinctly feminine connotation to it. Some of the guys have expressed the same opinion of Brooke….so, why not call them names too?

I mean, Princess could call the guys ‘bulls’ but that would kinda defeat the purpose since they might find it flattering instead of insulting.

Which begs the question….does Princess just hate the women here? Calling someone a ‘fat cow’ brings a female to mind. Maybe she’s afraid of the guys! :-)

Fantasia has talent (singing). Y’all just can’t appreciate it.

Most of the songs produced for her are all wrong for her voice. I’ll give you that.

But how can the person who gave the all-time BEST idol performance also be the worst winner?

Taylor Hicks was the worst!

At least Fantasia has her own unique sound. I don’t like most of her songs. And like I said, they are all wrong for her, imo.

Well, the ratings went down this week because we lost a more interesting, multi-dimentional performer in M.Johns. With the exception of David Cook, they are all a big yawn. Many people I know did not watch this week because Mike was gone. Let’s face it, Kristy got better but she was never as good as Johns, and if he was gone, she had to go.

Raz… i agree that ‘tasia gave perhaps THE definitive performance with Summertime. However, most of her songs are sung out of her range, and thus creeping into the screeching stages. Is that the producer’s fault? SHE chooses what she wants to sing, at least to some degree. Same criticism for Syesha, for Carly, and for MANY contestants over the years. If you don’t HAVE the range, don’t FAKE the range. Find another way to cope with octaves and pitch and key; that’s what “arrangement” means…. find, or create, an arrangement that suits YOUR voice instead of screaming to imitate an original performer’s style. That’s all.

or maybe i’m wrong, someone like A4A might be able to help me out on my thoughts here, ‘cuz Lord knows, if i’m wrong, i wanna know … if i’m REALLY wrong, i mean. ~¿@

Okay - now I feel that I’m obligated to actually give an AI opinion, since I’ve blogged in response Princess’ temper tantrum.

I think David Cook is the most marketable of the group. I personally would not buy anything by him, but, I wouldn’t turn the radio if his music came on either! He is the most individual of the group. By that, I mean that his voice is the most identifiable of all of the contestants. He has his own style and goes out of his way not to sound like anyone else. Again- it’s not my personal style of music, but, I can appreciate his talent.

April 17, 2008 1:00 PM | Link to this

Good afternoon to all my friends!!!!

Just went through all the postings since my last post on 4/11. Hubby and I went out of town for weekend, then got an emergency call about my 92yo Dad. All is well again with him.

OMG, what have we had going on here? Sounds like a little bit of everything. First, I will say that I was not to impressed with Tuesdays performances. IMO, it was not the best, but also not the worst.

What?????????? Another shocker as KLC was voted off. Two weeks in a row, what a double whammy. KLC will still benefit from AI and will get a signed record deal, now sooner than later. At this stage of the competition, anyone is fair game to be voted off. No one is safe, not even both Davids. It seems to me that this year hasn’t great in voting. Some of the better singers have gone long before the worst. Can’t seem to figure it all out yet.I will agree with what most of you are saying regarding the top final 2. Both Davids will be there.

About themes that they haven’t had this year. Don’t they usually have a Motown night? I also thought when they did that one, it was one of the better themes. Love that Motown sound. Gets me going (where I don’t know, but gets me going).

Now I know this post is going to be long (sorry Willie), but I feel the need to address “PRINCESS” and her comments.

First, I know that this is a public blog and anyone can and do say what they feel and think within reason. But when it becomes a personal issue with name calling, it stirs me up. For someone to name call persons that they have never met and most likely will never meet, is just plain ridiculous and shows a lack of immaturity, no matter who you are. Is your life so unsettled and unhappy that you are forced to stoop so low as to call innocent people names? By doing that, you are really downing yourself and making you seemed like the child that you are. In my many years of life, I have learned that if you are not happy within yourself, you will lash out and try to make others as unhappy as you are. None of us here are out to make anyone unhappy, but we are all entitled to our opinions, as you are. However, the difference is that we don’t name call. I expect to get some backlashing from my comments, but I am mature enough to handle it.I just don’t see any sense in stooping that low. People can express their opinions in a more and professional way and have a more direct hit in getting their point across. So, let us keep this blog friendly and dispel the disrespect to other bloggers. Posts are always welcome. Name calling is unacceptable!!!

Okay, I feel better now.

Neg. I like Princess too; she takes my mind off what a complete and utter mess that Brooke girl is. We need more people like Princess to tell it how it is, thanks for joining us. Now if only someone would tell it how it is to that Brooke girl on that American Idol show. She needs to be told to shut her trap because she is a complete mess, that Brooke girl is all jacked up.

Princess: What you fail to understand, is that I DID NOT say anything about telling people what to say. You must be one of the ones who can’t accept any form of criticism, although, I don’t believe that was what I was doing. You may need to backup and read my post again to get the precise meaning of it. You seem to lack the knowledge to understand full sentences. All I am saying, is that name calling shows a lack of immaturity. And if that one statement rankles you, so be it. I guess I got my point across.

Great point, I’m with you Princess. We do need to define what constitutes “mature” and “immature” here. Just like that American Idol show needs to define to that Brooke girl that she needs to stop acting batty. Have you seen that girl? She is an utter mess or maybe to fit the context of the blog today I should say she is a udder mess. Get it, I said udder instead of utter, that is the type of babbling that only that Brooke girl from the American Idol show would understand because she is all jacked up.

Comment overheard at lunch today: “Syesha sings well enough but she never seems to feel what she’s singing; she’s just performing words.” and another comment overheard “She (still talking about Syesha) just comes across as cold to me.” I wasn’t part of the conversation and didn’t make any opinions out loud, but i thought that those two comments frame the main reason Syesha doesn’t have as much support as others. Connectivity. or lack thereof. and Sy’s not the only one with that problem. MJ had a bit of that problem; Carly had a bit of that problem; Alaina had a bit of that problem; and Jason’s been accused of similar things.

Which brings me to this thought… If you’re going to vie against 10s of 1000s of people for a spot on a Talent/Popularity contest (which it IS — you have to have SOME talent to get there, but you have to be — or make yourself — popular to STAY there… wouldn’t you want to “connect” with the audience both live and camera-fed? seems that’s as much a part of the contest as anything…

I’m not saying this as clearly as I’m thinking it (blame cold/sinus meds) but… yes, it’s about talent, but it’s about MORE than talent, too… the idea is to create a MARKETABLE, “POP”ular STAR… outside of food/drink, i don’t know too much that’s popular for being “cold” … no that’s not quite it… cuz snow is “popular”…

well, you know what i mean, i think, and if you don’t i know you’ll tell me!!!!

I think ‘connecting’ with an audience is a difficult thing to learn…it’s more instinctive. That’s why some actors have huge followings, even though they’re not that good at acting…they connect with people…and some are terrific actors but never were able to draw their audience in.

At least I made it to 3rd grade!

By Menana

Okay, Princess here are the definitions you asked for.

MATURITY: Fully grown or developed. Fully aged or ripened. Worked out fully by the mind, perfected. To bring or come to a full development.

IMMATURITY: NOT fully grown or developed. Exhibiting less than normal maturity.

As you can see these are two entirely different words and I for one don’t need to have anyone explain the difference between the two as you seem to. I definitely am not saying that you are exhibiting adult behavior. Far from it. Your behavior is more on the adolescence side of maturity. Definition of adolescence: The period or state of development from the onset of puberty to maturity.

I will re-phrase. You are NOT mature enough to exhibit adult behavior.

JT: Thanks for the welcome back. I missed you all.

AI-A - to me, any time a singer has to raise the decibels to reach the “high notes” instead of doing it naturally, it becomes screaming. Perhaps that’s too harsh. I absolutely LOVE when Syesha sings in her range, her voice is definitely ear-candy. But when she strives to reach something that is just not natural for her, her tone changes, the velvet is gone, and i personally don’t like it. When she did Dolly’s/Whitney’s song… the first part was pure perfection. and then she felt she had to “reach for it” … she could have done the SAME lines, but instead of going UP UP UP UP, she could have dropped the key to something SHE can handle comfortably, and not lost it.

Again, this is in MY opinion, and it applies to a LOT of perfectly competent if not actually great singers who attempt to sing Celine, Mariah, Whitney, or whatever. They’ve been given the advice to bring it to THEIR style, rather than try to imitate the original … unfortunately, most don’t do that.

i can only speak for me… but that’s why i say it. Syesha is beautiful. She can sing beautifully as well. But i think she strives outside her natural range to the point it loses musicality and gains screechiness. ok i know that’s not a word but… it gets the point across.

Princess, it seems to me that you are very much the fool on here. You really must have a great relationship with cows, since that is all you seem to relate to. As you are so fond of name calling, you must get your rocks off by belittling people. This must give you a great sense of pride and make you really feel good. Well, I have news for you. You are a sorry excuse of a human being. Ever since you first came here, all you have done is make fun of people and call them names. I haven’t told a crude joke in a while so here goes……………….

George Bush has a heart attack and dies.

Obviously, he goes to Hell, where the Devil is waiting for him.

I’m not sure what to do,’ says the Devil. ‘You’re on my list, but I have no room for you. But since you definitely have to stay here, I am going to have to let someone else go. I’ve got three folks here who weren’t quite as bad as you. I’ll let one of them go, but you’ll have to take their place. I’ll even let you decide who leaves.’

George thought that sounded pretty good, so he agreed.

The Devil opened the first room. In it was Richard Nixon in a large pool of water. He kept diving in and climbing out, over and over. Such was his fate in Hell.

‘No!’ George shouted. ‘I don’t think so. I am not a good swimmer, and don’t think I could do that all day long’.

The Devil led him to the next room. In it was Tony Blair with a sledge hammer and a room full of rocks. All he did was swing the hammer, over and over, time after time.

‘No! I’ve got this problem with my shoulder, I would be in constant agony if all I could do was break rocks all day’, commented George.

The Devil opened the third door. In it, George saw Bill Clinton lying on the floor with his arms over his head, and his legs in a spread-eagle position. Bent over him was Monica Lewinsky doing what she does best.

George Bush looked at this in disbelief for a while and finally said, ‘Yeah, I can handle this.’

The Devil smiled and said ‘Ok, Monica, you’re free to go!’

I am so mad Brooke is still on the show. I CANNOT stand this weird girl. People have said from the beginning that Syesha is an actress before a singer and I’m proud of her that she has made it this far. I think she’s pretty and loveable, just like KLC who should still be in it. David Archuleta sings with great tenderness in his voice and he is so cute. When he finishes his song, and waits for the judges comments, he looks like a little muppet. I could eat him up!

Before predicting the final two, lets flash forward to the final show. IF the “winning” song is another syrupy self-congratulatory epic ballad like the last few, then Archie, Syesha and Carly will have a distinct advantage. D.Cook and Brooke ain’t got that kinda voice. Castro either. In fact, Castro is this year’s Sanjaya. All hair and no substance.

I’ll miss Christy Lee, easily the hottest chick this season. But unlike Scarnato last year, she’s got a voice!

I’ll buy CDs by DCook, Archie, Brooke and Christy Lee, regardless of how they finish, if/when they are released.

By kool$kat

I haven’t had time to read the entire blog above, and this is my first time reading this in several weeks. Just wondering if ya’ll have been discussing Simon and Randy dissing the singers for trying Whitney songs, etc. I wondered how they expected anybody to do a Mariah song? Alas, they dogged the big voiced singers, refusing to give credit, and praised DCook and Castro, who avoided Mariah comparisons by re-arranging the songs. Which is fine, but not fair to Carly and Christy Lee, for instance. I mean, who can sing like Mariah? NOBODY! So I think the judges should forget the original and just listen to what the contestant does live. Anybody concur?

I will also buy whatever Carly releases (left her out of previous post).
