4/2: Top 9 results show - bye bye Ramiele Malubay!
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Ramiele is cute and has a decent voice but she’s got several issues: awkward stage presence, minimal charisma and a poor ability to pick songs. In summary, bland and forgettable, as Simon might say. So it’s time for Ramiele Malubay to go home tonight. And thank goodness, she does. I was never a real fan, never loved any of her performances.
On the bright side, she was far better than several past contestants such as Lindsey Cardinale, Camile Velasco, Mikalah Gordon, Julia DeMato and last year’s yawner Haley Scarnato. Faint praise, I fathom.
I’m at a Ron White concert but someone texted me that I finally got it right after four weeks. I also got Kristy Lee Cook correct as part of the bottom two but instead of Carly, it was Brooke’s first appearance in the bottom three. This means every gal now has been in the bottom three and only the two Davids and Michael have escaped that fate.
UPDATED: It appears I didn’t miss too much else. The group sing of “9 to 5” was amusing mostly because the singers hung out with the judges. The Clark Brothers were impressive as always. And will Simon stop apologizing when he insults somebody, as he promised after someone asked him why he did that. The “what’s up with past Idols” piece out of Nashville was fun. A little catch up with Bucky Covington (who I interviewed last week for a CMT preview next week.) and Phil Stacey, who has added some facial hair (if not hair on top of his head.) They also did a short bit with Bo Bice, who noted he had severe intestinal surgery and took a year off. He noted how his new album is more to his roots than his first album. “Do what you love, genuinely give it what you’ve got and that’s what ‘See the Light’ is all about,” he said. And he’s a dad.
In terms of the order of safety and elimination, Ryan had all nine in the back and brought them out one by one. He placed Michael, Carly and the two Davids in the safety zone before placing Ramiele and Kristy to the bottom three seats. Later, he gave Syesha a thumbs up. Brooke and Jason are given the last slots. Brooke is at the bottom three. I think the fact she went first hurt her because I thought she didn’t do badly at all.
Simon agreed with the bottom three (all roomies!).
In advance of “Idol Gives Back,” there’s a video showing how difficult life can be in Ethiopia and how some of the $76 million raised last year helped out some children there, including a reunion of two sisters. Finally, there’s Dolly Parton doing “Jesus & Gravity.” She sounds a bit rough but she did a better job than Diana Ross last year. The choir helps hide some of the vocal flaws near the end. And for a 62 year old, she looks better than Priscilla Presley. (Her plastic surgery isn’t quite so plastique.)
And yes, Ramiele, even through tears, did better with her song post elimination than the day before. The producers also managed to ensure she got her entire song in before 19 logo came up. They’ve had better luck doing that this year. I think the times when they cut people’s exit song occurred more often when they had only 30 minutes.
Not much happened from the Nigel Lythgoe press conference today about “Idol Gives Back” except that he confirmed the TMZ report about David Cook’s heart palpitations and high blood pressure. He also said Mariah won’t be doing a duet with the late Marvin Gaye because the show couldn’t get clearance. He’s psyched to see Heart come on the show. And he’s looking forward to whatever antics Robin Williams will be up to. Part of the show is going to be taped Sunday and part will be live on Wednesday. And yes, Ellen DeGeneres can’t host the Sunday portion due to some strange production conflict. He said after two questions about Cook rather emphatically that he would only take questions about “Idol Gives Back’ so I dropped asking him about Michael Johns and went to the “is the Mariah/Marvin duet going to happen?” At least I got a newsworthy answer.

I believe its time for Remielle to go home…also Brook, and Jason, they BORING….I think the last two will be Michael, and David Cook , for the finale….and thats really goin to be hard, because they are both unique in thier own way….They’ll both make it no matter what…But Brook, is just too too sweet for my liking

I was surprised to see Brooke in the bottom 3 tonight. She has to go eventually but I thought Jason needed to go before her. Guess it doesn’t really matter. I think we were all ready for Ramiele to leave.
Re the Clark Bros. I have to agree with WE… they didn’t do themselves ANY favors with that song. I loved the Clark Bros on Great American Band but I hated them tonight! What a disappointment!

Wowowowow. I think this is one of the first times ever where everyone I wanted in the bottom 3 actually was.
Obviously I wanted Kristy in the bottom 3, then had that feeling Ramiele would be b/c she has made horrible choices in song. Then there was Brooke who I added 3rd to the bottom 3 list b/c she is becoming annoying and she’s not showing ‘a great singer’.
So I’m happy I got it right!
I’m not so happy, however, that Ramiele went home. I didn’t mind beforehand, but actually seeing it happened just didn’t make me that happy. Because I like her. She just had gotten boring. And adding to that seeing her leave over Kristy, once again, made me madder.
Kristy has long over stayed…should have left back in top 16! Her voice is nice once in a while… but we all know that those who left before her were better singers. I sometimes wonder why people vote for her. Not trying to be mean.. just very curious…
And might I add…”It won’t be Brooke”, says Simon. SEE!!! HE WANTS BROOKE TO WIN! HE’S MADLY IN LOVE WITH HER AND PROVES WHY HE IS BIASED!!!!!! YEAH!
Syesha is safe :) … and let it continue.

AND it is quite obvious a guy will win this season… out of a total of 4 Top 12 results shows, and 12 times of being in the bottom 3, only 3 out of 12 are guys in the bottom 3…all the rest girls. And all girls have been in the bottom.
Top 12: one guy in bottom, 2 girls Top 11: 3 girls Top 10: 2 guys, 1 girl Top 9: 3 girls

I wasn’t surprised to see Ramiele go tonight because I thought it would be her or Syesha. I think Syesha,Jason, kristi,Brooke will be the next four but its anyones guess what order they will go. I think the top four will be David c. and David A. Carly and Michael.Of those four I predict Carly to go first and the three guys in the finals.Does anyone else agree? I thought Brooke did a great job with Jolene but I do get tired of hearing her speaking up when the judges are giving their opinions. It seemsa like Kristi is her own worst enemy with her “poor me” note tonight. She may not know it but she will be correct probably soon enough. I like Jason but he really needs some excitement to his performance. Its the same each week! I am a David A. fan but Michael Johns is really stepping up to the plate, I think. Only time will tell how well we predict each week.

Ramiele needed to go. She’d worn out her relevance and had no extra gear. I was relieved that Syesha and Kristy are still around. Jason is somehow cutenessing his way along still…God knows he has zero talent.
Brooke is in trouble. Her whining mouth and blubbering may be annoying enough to get her removed next week.
Someone please send Archuletta home. I can’t stand him anymore.
Nothing is more certain than that David Cook will win it all. All of the others are posturing for second place.
Kristy better be careful; her flippant attitude towards Simon’s criticism will not serve her well with voters.
Syesha better learn her vocal limitations. Another misguided Diva song and she’s toast.
Michael Johns is doing much better, but he’s still a poor man’s David Cook. That should be good enough, though, for Top 5.
Carly is good as long as she avoids the high registry, where she misses every time. She needs to stick to the lower notes.

I really don’t like David A. I’m not sure why but I just don’t like him. Maybe it is that the judges just kiss his butt every week even when he is horrible. I don’t think he is the worst one left but I think he is middle of the pack but the judges just keep puckering up. He is Clay Aiken but Clay was much more Butch.

Night Harmony, glad that you got by all the roadblocks we threw up. I actually had a few lockups when loading the blog tonight.
Group sing was good tonight, I liked 9 to 5 when it first came out, but I was 10, which was only a few years removed from eating boogers. Having them up by the judges saved them from moving too much, and they actually handled that part nicely.

Getting down top the nitty gritty, eh?
Here’s my personal top 8.
1. David Cook - Simply the best. 2. Brooke - As annoying as her personality may be, I really enjoy her singing and music style. Her voice is really pure and strong. 3. Michael Johns - I do like him well enough, but don’t love him. His being Australian is a negative to me, and what he does best David Cook does ten times better. 4.Kristy - Like her genre, love her look, but she’s not star quality. 5.Carly - Like her voice, especially the low registry. She’s been nicely humbled a bit and that makes her more likable. Being Irish hurts her, and having a tattoo fetish kills her. 6.Syesha - Nice voice when under control, but not as good as she thinks she is. She needs to sing pretty not powerful, but she won’t and that’s why she’ll be gone soon. 7.Castro - Not much talent from this stoner air head, but he would make for pleasant background music while drinking beer at a beach bar. 8.Archuletta - I can’t stand him. Hate his face, hate his voice, hate his attitude, hate his arrangements, hate his style of music, hate his giggling, hate his personality, hate his father…need I go on?

My predictions based on real talent and potential for record sales: David Cook, undeniably the best, Carly Smithson, the most talented and constistent girl, Brook White, annoying personality, but great talent, Michael Johns, sexy and nice voice, Jason Castro, great for the indy arena, which has grown in popularity, Sayesha Mercado, love her, nice voice, but nothing special, Kristi Lee Cook, good for a narrow country market, and David Archuleta, boring, though he has a nice voice.

Funny but the kid you hate will be the one with the biggest marketing upside and will be in the final 3 without question. The voting is a shame as witnessed by past winners and losers vs their actual market share.
Brooke White will be very successful because of the unique quality to her voice. You don’t have to be a great singer to be successful but you do need to be a great entertainer to be successful.

Guys, once again great comments and observations. Pls add me to the group of David A is annoying. I’ve felt it since week 2. He is like a little smurf - and he always looks and acts like a 10 year old who is about to get in trouble. How old is he? - and that giggling. He can sing, but I wish he would just go home. Poor Dolly… time to give it up girl. Love David C and Michael J.

DawnH…you are hereby added to the group that thinks Archie is annoying. And Idleblogger, while I agree that Archie will be in the top 3, I seriously question his ‘marketability’. In the article I quoted yesterday from mj…the suggestion was that Archie is better suited for Branson than he is for the pop idol scene. While teen girls LOVE him, affording him a brief and somewhat fickle fanbase, he doesn’t actually DO anything that teens would be interested in listening to.
Like someone else suggested, we can only hope that the undeniable talent of David Cook and the rising popularity of Michael Johns will start to distract some of Archie’s fans.

I agree withe Deidre about Archie. Beyond the whole cute teenager thing, I don’t see a marketable presence there. He’s BLAND.

Well, I got another vote off right. It was Ramiele’s time to go.
I wonder if the rest of the contestants are gettig scared of making the bottom 2 with kristy Lee. You see Kristy in the bottom 2, you automatically know you are going home. It is like the bottom 2 is a death match and Kristy Lee is a Sicilian Hitman. LOL

Mike S. - LOL!! Kristy Lee is the grim reaper for anyone unlucky enough to land next to her in the bottom two. She’s so tough to eliminate because: A. she does sing well; B. she looks pretty damn hot; C. Country has a smallish but powerhouse and loyal base. She is also the ALL AMERICAN GIRL of the group, and, after all, this is AMERICAN IDOL.
She and Brooke are eventually going to slam into one another’s base. Kristy is hotter, Brooke is softer and more emotional. Brooke has a very strong and pure voice, Kristy has a similar voice, but not quite as diverse. Brooke is annoying, Kristy is getting some ‘tude.
It will be interesting to see which one outlasts the other. I suspect it will be Brooke by a hair.

PEOPLE, This is not a contest on who looks the best, this is a singing competition, if it were based on looks, David C. would always be in the bottom 3 because he has a square head. I think that David A. has one of the best voices out there and he also has the biggest following of people right now. Votes count but I think the producers have the last say on the winner.

DawnH…I don’t think I ever heard about Bo having a drug problem. Shortly after his season of Idol ended, he admitted having serious abdominal pain during the last few weeks…I’m not even sure if he got to go on the tour. But he had a number of surgeries related to his intestines…never heard exactly what was wrong. I think he would have done really well right off the show if he hadn’t been ill.
Which raises the question about David Cook as a viable winner(and I believe he IS headed toward winning this thing)

Well, I can’t say I was too disappointed on Ramiele going home. She’s ok, but I was never really blown away. As far as Brooke in the bottom 3, well, that’s the kick in the pants her fans need to keep her on. We’ve already seen that with Carly.

Dee, Kristy would look a hell of a lot better in an ascot than Michael. ;)
Remember, she has not been surviving by flukes. She has a real base, she’s hot, and she has a very good voice. Country style music tends to be all or nothing…similar to rap. Either you love it and are very loyal to it, or you hate it like poison.
I’m one of the weirdos in the middle. Love the pure, soulful, ballad style country, hate the line dance crap. Kristy touches either a raw nerve or a real spark depending on the person. A little like Haley last year, the women seem to hate her more while the men, ahem, seem to appreciate her assets.
Anyway, David Cook wins it all or we bomb the studio; the rest is “idol chit-chat”.

chatty:
What happened was during the “audience questions phoned in” segment, Ryan called on a lady who asked Simon “Why do you always apologize after making a negative criticism?” Simon said he LOVED her, and that he would NEVER apologize again! … That’s the whole background, really, on that. Other than yielding to apologize to the fiddler for Brooke, he was being a bit sarcastic about apologizing, just pointing to various areas of the room and going “and to you, and to you…”
at least, that’s the way I saw it, LOL!
Dawn, I don’t know that I ever read exactly WHAT his problem was, but it was some serious disease in his intestines and stomach that caused on-going problems, and because he kept pushing himself, he ended up needing surgery. I never heard that he had drug problems and was in rehab, the rehab he was doing was because the multiple surgeries after suffering with digestive problems for years just wore him out and he needed time to grow healthy again.
Someone else may know more, but that’s just all I ever heard.
and re the Clark Brothers — the number they did is apparently their “signature” song — it was the number that got them into NGAB’s competition, and it was a version of that used to catapault them into the winning spot over SixWire, who are also DAYUMED good. However, they do a lot more…. They’re intense when they play… i like ‘em a lot! But I still want to see more of SixWire … or as they became known on NGAB — “SexyWire” …

DawnH - to answer your questions about Bo: The surgeries were to correct problems with both his large and small intestines - the boy was very seriously ill. The drug thing was really only a minor charge for possession years ago - no real problems or rehab. It came out during Season 4, Idol knew about it, all had been resolved by that time. Everything since Season 4 was issues with his health, nothing more.

DS. Archie has a wonderful voice but no ‘center’ He sings for adults but has the adulation of pre-teens. He’s 17 years old but seems MUCH younger. He sings every song the SAME. Five years from now, with a little more maturity, he would have knocked the socks off EVERY Idol fan…but, while I agree he may win, I doubt that he’ll have much of a career.

DS, if the producers were to take the vote away from the viewing audience, they could be subject to some serious penalties. No, the way the producers control the results is by restricting what you see and hear about the contestants, manipulating your emotional responses to each person, giving you the sympathy factor (my dad died but i’m going to sing anyway for him) (i’m a single mom who wants to do better for my daughter) (i’m just a poor country girl who’s daddy is in prison for the umpteenth time) and so on… not that there is anything WRONG with that, it’s just that the producers/directors get to pick and choose what you see and hear … and there is NO way you get to see and hear everything about everyone, so we are at their mercy in that regard.
its a totally imperfect system, but we’ve had fun with it for 7 years now, so … hey, it must work!

To Brenda and others who hate on Brooke because she’s a “good girl” and who, like you, compare her to Melinda who is also a “good girl” … are you SO cynical and caloused by your life that you just cannot believe there are genuinely NICE people out there in the world? I got tired of that line last year with Melinda, and I’m tired of it this year with Brooke “no one can be THAT nice” (said in a slightly whiney voice)
hate to tell you — YES they CAN be that nice. And rather than be brutal and sarcastic and mean-spirited, perhaps you should try the “nice” side for a change! It’s immensely satisfying!!!

Ramiele Malubay could have gotten a lot farther if she learned to relax and not sing so nervous. She sounded her best after she got kicked off and had less stress. I think it was a confidence problem more than she is a bad singer.

First of all, I take issue with the group Clark Brothers singing this little light of mine. That song is a child’s song, not to mention a church song and the way they played it along with two of the instruments was outrageous and am insulted by thier actions. They should be ashamed of themselves for destroying Such a cute religous song and turning it into a rock song.As for the instruments, two of those instruments are not meant to be played that rough and hard.

chattypatty…the awful segment they’ve been doing where they answer phoned-in questions had a question for Simon about why he always apologizes after criticizing someone….he said he’d never apologize again, then got picked on for saying something nasty about Brooke’s fiddle player Tuesday night and that’s when all the apologies started!
Linny…re Sixwire…NOW you know why they called him Sawyer every now and then! :-)
Neg…Kristy is pretty and she sings very nicely(unlike Haley)However, she, like Ramiele, who also could sing, is NOT on a par with at least 5 maybe 6 of the remaining contestants. Has nothing to do with her being country(Carrie won, remember)

Regarding Melinda, well, anyone that says she isn’t a genuinely nice and good person is excessively cynical and bitter.

And DS, one more thing. While looks may have something to do with the recent response to Michael…I say it has more to do with the WAY he sang It’s All Wrong. It was sultry and sensual(I’m not speaking for you guys, ok) It had an adult quality that let us hear what the song was ABOUT. Archie is not capable of doing that YET. When he is, hold onto your hats!

What a rip off putting Brooke in the bottom three when the girl that came trying to sing the same old tired Whitney Houston version of I Will Always Love You and nnever hit a note on key. She was horrrid. I mean…come on, is that predictable or what. Talk about not being able to think out of the box, she should have been booted off. So typical that a black girl would sing that ONE song from 3,000 that Dolly has written. Also, did you see her at the end, she has no rhythm. What a rip off! She is about as original as cereal for breakfast and about as boring.

So thrilled to Ramiele gone! I believe she was totally blown away to even be in the bottom 3. She was “smug” beyond belief. She thought she had plenty of fan base after the BFF Danny thing and that was all she would need to keep her in. She was almost sarcastic everytime Ryan asked her something and I would just cringe to hear her talk. That hair in her eyes was also extremely annoying. She rode it as long as she could, thank goodness she’s gone!

I tried the nice thing for a while but my horns kept knocking my halo askew.
Negative - I agree on Kristy, Ascot and NOTHING ELSE!!! :-) checks to make sure Mrs Mike didn’t see that
As for Bo - In July 2005 he was rushed to the hospital during the Idols tour suffering from an intestinal blockage that required emergency surgery. He returned to do the last two shows of the tour.
Over the next year he was in and out of hospitals over 20 times with severe intestinal pain, vomiting blood, etc, but each time would recieve treatment to relieve the sysmptons and would release himself to honor concert committments.
This went on until November 2006 when Bo was hospitalized again and doctors found that he was suffering from a rare genetic abnormality in his digestive tract. They were forced to remove a large portion of his small and large intestines, and Bo was hospitalized with complications for over 2 months.
The surgery and treatment seem to have worked though, and Bo has not had any recurrance of the problem.

Re Dolly Parton. She is a pistol…energetic, bawdy, wide open friendly. I’ve always liked her..especially as an actress and songwriter. Not my favorite singer. Last night was fun, lively and happy BUT….I think it’s time for Dolly to stop singing. I really liked the lyrics to her song but I never really heard the melody. She seemed to go everywhere and anywhere to find the note she wanted.
I have a great deal of respect for this woman. She’s a savvy businesswoman and a prolific songwriter. The performance last night was just not good.

This Little Light Of Mine was taken from its folk/church roots and made into an intense song that is NOT NOT NOT “ROCK” in nature. The Clark Brothers, if you had watched Next Great American Band, are members of a musical and extremely close-knit and religious family who express their fervor through music. Your criticism sounds like back in the 60s when preachers and parents were totally freaking out because their children who were raised in church were suddenly doing “jesus rock” to express their joy in the Lord. One set of parents i knew went so far as to commit their child to an institution for shock treatments!
Music in ANY form is an expression of emotion and thought … and the Clark’s joyful intense performances are JUST AS pleasing to MY God as the “cute little children’s song”.
sorry, but you strike a NERVE on that one!

I really like Brooke, even if - or just because - she doesn’t “go over to the dark side.” I was glad to see Ramiele go, butI was also sorry that Syesha didn’t go. I simply don’t think she is that good. However, I do think it is unfair to compare any contestant to Whitney just because she made the song famous. No one compared Whitney’s version to Dolly’s (duh, I know…). My point is that you shouldn’t have to be a Whitney or Celine or Mariah to sing a song. You should be judged on your own ability and style. I also think Kristy is very weak. As for her starting to speak out - maybe she isn’t as sweet as she lead everyone to believe. Everyone wants to think of her as the girl who had to sell her favorite horse to get to Idol, not the smarta** she is turning into. Be careful, Kristy… you could lose the sympathy vote.

Stephanie - Have you ever heard of the term “Christian Rock”? The Clark Bros. have been playing and singing “This Little Light of Mine” like that for years and it has brought the a lot of fame and fortune.
You really should google or you tube them. They are a very good group that bring the WORD to a whole new group of people with thier musical style.
Also, when was there an edict that instruments must be played ONLY THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT????
Is a Violin a violin? Or can it be played as a FIDDLE?
Is a guiter meant ONLY to be played by Sister Mary Holier than Thou or can it also be played by Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton?? Is the Trumpet only meant for MARCHES? Or can Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong make it sound like something totally different?
Just because these young men have an amazing talent that allows them to get sounds out of a steel guitar and a dobro that most people can only dream of does not mean they should be insulted or demeaned.

I don’t know how that girl ever made it to the Top 24…Kristi that is. She will never be a Carrie Underwood because not only can she NOT sing, she needs to grow up. Every season there has to be “chicken little” or “mohawk head” and she is “IT” this season. I’ll be glad when she goes home. This has been the worse season yet —- of the thousands that auditioned in every city, you cannot make me believe that this group was the best. Give me a break!

I think most critics of David A would/should also have a problem with Melinda from last year. Behavior-wise, they are much the same. They both have that, “you can’t be talkin bout me surprised look” when someone praises them and both are somewhat unexciting as stage performers. Both also possess the BEST singing voices of their respective years. That’s why I like both and will continue to support David A with my votes.

Nagle, you’re an azz! You OBVIOUSLY didn’t pay attention. The Clark Brothers won the competition entitled “Next Great American Band”. It was another Fox production. Clark Brothers are from Nashville and as said before, are members of a large bluegrass/christian family. They’ve been performing all their lives. They do backup on tour for the likes of Carrie Underwood. It was Country-Dolly Parton week. Dolly is another Christian Country singer/songwriter.

Michael Johns has the absolute best voice - and should win it all. David Cook’s voice is good, but it’s too… something I can’t put my finger on, in my head, his voice looks like this “oOoOOoOoOooooOooOO”. His voice fits a lot of one or two hit wonder ‘rock’ bands from the late 90s and early 00s. If Michael Johns puts an album out, I’d actually buy it. I can’t say the same for anyone else on the show.

mag83..I agree that Michael is terrific but he got off to a VERY slow start. I also think D. Cook is terrific. I’m leaning toward Cook at the moment but if Michael keeps it going like he has the last 2 weeks, then the Davids have some serious competition!

As for the playing instruments wrong…hmmmm, I think if people always did what they were told - this world would be a very boring place.
Anyone here remember the movie Animal House? Remember the Toga party? Belushi comes down the stairs where that guy is singing soft and playing guitar and flirting with all these girls…and Belushi grabs the guitar and just smashes the heck out of it….Well, that is the overwhelming feeling I get when Jason performs!!

Deirdre, I know that the typed word often times gets misread, because it is difficult to convey emotion. So just in case… sometimes I forget to throw a ;) after my joking or sarcastic comments. Hooray! Finally, one of the worst is gone. She should have gone a while back. Now, if we can just get rid of weak voiced Jason, strong voiced but not much else Sayesha, then the run for the finals can really get started.
I am no Dolly fan, her voice has always grated on my nerves, sounding like the voiceover for Alvin and the Chipmunks, but you gotta give her respect as an incredibly prolific songwriter and selling over 100 million albums in her lifetime. I don’t have to like her, but I have to respect her. And she really is a very nice person.
I have loved the Clarke Brothers going back to the beginning of The Next Great American Band. I was very surprised though to find out (through Internet sources, so this may not be exactly accurate), that they are not novices to the recording industry. They had a recording deal with their family and actually had a CD, I think around 2002 or 2003, a major hit with one song, then because of financial difficulties, left their label (according to the label, they owed the label $800,000, causing them to file bankruptcy). The brothers have individually toured in the back up bands for Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and others. Still, they are some of the best musicians I have heard recently and I really hope they do well as The Clarke Brothers.
Do you think Nigel does the group sing as revenge for the American Revolution?

See, Willie, that’s where you’re just not getting it. It doesn’t matter if other people remember what we say or not. Sometimes the task has more to do with needing to get something off your chest or say something ‘outloud’ to help organize your thoughts.

Just a quick post. Will try to make it short.Linny: Amen to your post about the Clark Brothers. The good Book says: “Lift up your voices and make a joyful noise unto the Lord”. No where does it mention a specific style of music. Growing up in the south and being raised by an old fashioned southern preacher in the 60’s you were right on. I can attest to that. The worst whipping my Dad ever gave me was when he caught me playing Elvis 45’s. Yes, we did sing This Little Light of Mine in church and it still had the same meaning as last night, just in a different version. If anyone didn’t like the arrangement by the CB, all they had to do was hit the mute button.
Neg: You stay right where you are. Don’t let anyone run you off. Again, if anyone doesn’t like what they read, see, hear, they can always mute the sound, or skip over the writing. No one is forced to hear or read what they don’t want to.
Just heard a few moments ago, that after last night’s show, Brooke had a complete meltdown and it took Ryan, Paula, Randy, Simon, producers and her husband to get her calm. Was upset that she landed in the bottom 3. Sounds like that may be alittle like unsportsmanship and maybe some inmaturity. Just thought you all would like to know about that little piece of tidbit.
Gotta go to PT, will be back later.

Diedre, I have checked several websites and can’t find anything that says what the theme is. I assume probably they have no mentor this week so there isn’t much to advertise.
My vote for theme - Songs of the 1790’s. Can’t you just see David A. singing Etude in Eflat Major? or Brooke singing Ode to a Bollweevil in G?

If it is inspirational songs I may have to rely on my DVR to skip the singing. Isn’t that what they did last year, inspirational songs? I remember it being the most painful week for the most painful year of Idol. However, Archie should be able to pick a good song because he does like his songs to be preachy.

I’m not surprised at Brooke’s breakdown. I’m going to chalk it up to the unbelievable pressure these kids are under to do their best each week. Maybe it was over-confidence but I’m inclined to believe that the whole thing just got to her!

you think, ShayH? heh heh … what if we ARE being ‘televised’ to some audience … who knows we’re just entertainment, but WE think THIS is the real world…
seriously, Brooke explained part of it right there on stage — the emotional nature of competing the way AI is set up, being roomies with the other two bottom-3 members, knowing one of them WAS going to leave — her spiritual nature, listening to Dolly’s song, which, while her singing wasn’t so great, the concept in the song was fantastic, and Brooke said that it affected her tremendously — being in the bottom 3 for the first time, a wake up call — and pure ordinary everyday stress and overwork (lack of stamina) all combined to overwhelm her …
now. the question is. would a professional allow themselves to be affected so drastically? well, duh! look at all the alcoholics and druggies created in the entertainment industry from just ordinary stresses and pressures and expectations! i’d hope that Brooke’s ‘collapse’ would be no more noteworthy than anyone else’s ‘relapse’!
or something like that… it’s getting late, i haven’t had enough coffee or something, maybe chocolate would be good right now…
