2/10: Gone Country recap, Taylor Hicks on Regis
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
This episode was pretty much “Being Bobby Brown” and not much else. Diana got a little face time but overall, it was all about Bobby getting scared of horses on Gretchen Wilson’s farm, Bobby drinking, Bobby skipping out on a “hick chick” competition involving watermelon seed spittin’, toilet seat throwin’ and burping. Also, Bobby farting on Carnie Wilson, Bobby eating barbecue while everyone else cooled their heels and Bobby sleepwalking, almost peeing on poor Dee Snider. And there ya go. I just saved you 22 minutes!
And in Rolling Stone, Dee Snider softens his criticism of “American Idol” a bit after spending time with Diana DeGarmo:
Dee Snider on Gone Country
“I really loathed American Idol when it started. I loathed the fact that these people were given this easy path to stardom while the rest of us had to slug it out in the streets and in the bars and work for years. My guitar player J.J. French is famous for saying on stage that it really makes him mad when they say “I wanna thank my fans” and they’re talking to the fans that they’ve had for the last six weeks! Fans are people that are with you for six years. But after doing Gone Country with Diana DeGarmo it was pointed out to me that these people go through trials under the microscope - it’s a sort of bootcamp. I spent a couple of weeks with Diana and got to know her, and they walk their own brutal path. It may not be in the bars and it may not be night after night driving around the country but its tough in its own way. So I’ve got more of a respect for what they do, but I still don’t watch it.”
And Taylor Hicks was the star on a wedding held on “Regis & Kelly.” He’s the couple’s favorite act. I wonder how much Taylor would charge for a wedding that wasn’t televised?

I really hope Diana wins this thing…I caught it last night and I really don’t understand how it works, aren’t they supposed to be competing? So far they really haven’t done much……………..I’m pumped for Hollywood week! Top 24 announced this Wednesday, so does that mean they begin semi-final rounds next tuesday?

saw the gone country this week…yeah, Rodney, you pegged it. I’m REALLY sick of BB…and apparently next week he gets all redeemed because of having to deal with some kids in a hospital… we’ll see. I mean great that the kids move him to see more than himself, but how long will THAT last? not long, i’m willing to bet. re DS’s comments about AI… most of the people who do try out for AI have been working at music for a few years or more, look at people like Daughtry and Hicks, they’d had bands and struggled for years…AI was just one more opportunity to rise above that hardship. No different that happening to be at the right place playing at the right time in front of the right people singing the right song, or having the right “gimmick” at the right moment… just another opportunity that you have to grab onto like you would any other. so why not? and like he did admit…they’re sort of under a microscope for a few weeks, AND that microscope is under the direction of a director and an editor who can do whatever they want with it…
meh. i see it as just being a bigger singing competition than the local open mic night so many bands suffer thru…
anywho… D, hope your Greg is doing well by now!
see ya!

I wonder if I offer Taylor a free meal if he will sing at my birthday party.

LOL!! WE!
Yes, I’m back from LaLaLand and I hope y’all appreciate that, as long as I was out there anyway, I settled the writers strike. I mean, SOMEBODY had to get those guys off their collective butts!!! :-)
Mr Hollywood is on the mend..still not 100% but working his way very gradually in that direction. The weather was fantastic but I spent all my time inside a teeny-tiny apartment(except when I was busy getting the writers’ strike settled, of course)
Justin….I have to agree with you on Gone Country….I was under the impression it was an elimination show and we’d see a lot of singing. I’m very disappointed so far. And will somebody please, lock Bobby Brown out of the house!!!! Who needs him!?

I’m watching Tina Turner on the Grammies. She is two years shy of seventy and looks like she is 40. WoW

Hey guys, I just wanted to say hi to you all and to let you know that I won’t be around very much for a few days; I was laid off from my job on Friday and I will be running errands to get things done (I only have about 10 weeks until the baby comes), but I will be back after I get some of these “things” figured out.
I hope you all have a good time! I’ll try to check in now and then to see how you all are doing.

Taylor Hicks is a solid hero. A great, confident respectable performer. I like him. Carrie Underwood has clearly outperformed her contract and become a much bigger star than anyone anticipated. Props to her. NOW! For IDOL to have ever considered having the mentally challenged, desperately in need of therapy BRITTENUM twins back for the 2008 season is basically criminal. Um…pardon the expression. No one wants to see two blabber mouth retards with standard talent hog the camera with their big UGLY faces acting like the drama QUEENS they really are(“My spirit is broken”). Who cares retard, so is your brain. I know the job of producers is to make sure that ratings for IDOL remain high, but cutting a deal with SCUM to get a little extra attention for shock value should be beneath a program as great as idol. Those two sh&ts belong back in jail for years. They have been arrested twice since the 2005 arrest that got them kicked off. Ken Warwick, please show some class and don’t bring that FILTH back to the best show on TV. Thank you, The Fool.
