2/7: Simon disses Kat, Disney’s new Idol attraction, Ferras farewell song, ratings
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sorry, Kat fans, Simon has clamped his claws on Katharine McPhee with Extra!.:
“I don’t think she was a credible recording artist. Katharine will end up on Broadway!”
Well, that’s true, isn’t it? We’ll see soon if she can act, too.
This comes from Associated Press. It sounds like a good idea. You gotta wonder why they didn’t think this up five years ago!
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts announced plans Thursday to create a live performance attraction based on “American Idol” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park - formerly called Disney-MGM Studios - in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
“Our goal is to try to recreate the excitement of those 24 people who show up on that ‘American Idol’ stage,” Disney Parks chairman Jay Rasulo told The Associated Press. “We believe many, many viewers want to know exactly how that feels, and we’re going to try to reproduce that feeling for them.”
Much like the hugely popular Fox singing competition, the as-yet-unnamed attraction - scheduled to open in late 2008 - will allow theme park guests to audition then perform before a live studio audience inside the Hollywood Studios’ theater space.
Top audience vote-getters will compete in a grand finale show at the end of each day. Overall daily champs will win a special front-of-the-line pass at a regional audition for the actual “American Idol” show. Hindle says Disney winners won’t be given any special treatment during the real audition, just the ability to skip ahead.
And the rejection song this year for “Idol” is from an unknown, sort of like Daniel Powter two years ago with “Bad Day.” The song is by Ferras and is called “Hollywood Not America.” You can sample here on his MySpace page. or listen here, courtesy of DJ Slim (congrats on the upcoming baby!):
The press release says: “The song ‘Hollywood’s Not America’ is a bittersweet anthem that will serve to remind the young and talented Idol hopefuls that leaving Idol will not be the end of the road for them.”
You can see the video here at ew.com. Pronounce the guy’s name Ferras as fur-OSS.
The press release says it will air next week but I’m not sure if it will be used the rest of the season.
“Idol” ratings were down 16 percent Tuesday from a year ago with 27.9 viewers and only about 5% with 26 million Wednesday, based on preliminary numbers because there was a big dropoff a year ago for the eighth audition episode.
Randy Jackson told EW that he wants to produce Paula Abdul’s next full-length CD.. Paula also told TV Guide recently she was interested in doing “Dancing With the Stars” in the fall.
Tivo alert: Sanjaya is hosting a “Where are they now” Idols special Feb. 24 at 8 p.m on the TV Guide channel. More details here.

Very interesting about Disney’s new “attraction” … will be interesting to see if it actually flies… haven’t gone to listen to the Ferras song yet, but thanks to Rodney and DJSlim for the link to do so! you guys ROCK… and apparently, DJ, congrats are in order to your family…. best to you all!!!
and re Kat, well DUH, she always did sound a bit “theatrical”, and looked it too; musical theatre is a natural for her, imho.
later mushBloggians! have a good evening!

Good Morning everyone!
I wonder how long they will be able to keep the attraction a part of the park. I would’ve thought they would’ve done this a few years ago to get hte most out of it.
Congrats DJ, thank you for all your input on the blog.
I agree with Linny about Kat. I never really thought of her as a radio music maker; more of the live theatre type.

Good morning, y’all! TGIF!
Disney’s about 3 years too late with this. Maybe it’s a “backdoor” deal to try to get some ooomph back into Idol?
Simon’s on the money with Kat. I never really thought that she would be another Kelly or Carrie. She’s very theater, but it’s not like that’s a bad thing. Guess we’ll see.
So I’m continuing to give Lost a chance, but it’s hard. I always feel so confused…and I know we’re supposed to, but. Anyone else with me?

Three quarterbacks go up to heaven and arrive at the pearly gates where God is waiting for them
God asks Peyton Manning first: “What do you believe?” Peyton thinks long and hard, looks God in the eye, and says, “I believe in hard work, and in staying true to family and friends. I believe in giving. I was lucky, but I always tried to do right by my fans.” God can’t help but see the essential goodness of Manning, and offers him a seat to his left.
Then God turns to Tony Romo and says, “What do you believe?” Tony says, “I believe passion, discipline, courage and honor are the fundamentals of life I, too, have been lucky, but win or lose, I’ve always tried to be a true sportsman, both on and off the playing fields.” God is greatly moved by Tony’s sincere eloquence, and he offers him a seat to his right
Finally, God turns to Bret Favre: “And you, Bret, what do you believe?”
Bret replies, “I believe you’re in my seat

kf, going backwards…i’ve never watched a Lost episode, but because of all the chatter, LOL, i bought the first year on CD and will start from the beginning, so i’m not watching year 4…
you’re on the money about 3 years too late for Disney/AI…but maybe it’ll help the concept somehow
now… has anyone else caught the show on MTV produced by Randy Jackson “America’s Best Dance Crew” or some such? I missed the audition show last week, but watched the debut competition show last night. Actually pretty good. IF you can watch that kind of dancing. Me, i love ANY kind of dancing, so i enjoyed it! Because it’s on MTV, there’s lots of folks who will never even know it exists, except for the commercials on “regular” tv. There were some interesting backstories, and all the dancers were pretty good; there were a few groups, however, that really REALLY stood out to me.
One was a group from the southwest called Jabberwokeez … I THINK they may have competed on America’s Got Talent or something…they wear mime masks, and i KNOW i’ve seen them before somewhere…. anyway, it was all pretty good.
y’all have a great Friday… i’ll be around when i can!
and D, when you do read this, i hope your Greg is feeling MUCH better and you can actually relax a little bit while you’re out there!!! {{{{D}}}}

A VERY ugly man walks into the bar with a big grin on his face and orders a draft beer.
“What are you so happy about?” asks the barman. “Well, I’ll tell you,” replies the ugly man. “You know, I live by the railroad tracks. Well, on my way home last night, I noticed a young woman tied to the tracks, like in the films. I, of course, went and cut her free and took her back to my place. Anyway, to make a long story short, I scored big time! We made love all night, all over the house. We did everything, me on top, sometimes her on top, every position imaginable!” “Fantastic!” exclaimed the barman. “You lucky b*******, was she pretty? “Dunno…Never found the head!”

Good morning! Popping in from sunny CA. Course the sun’s just rising so I’m not actually sure if it’s sunny yet.
Mr Hollywood is still improving, which is a good sign. Started eating something besides crackers yesterday. He’ll be ready to kick me out of his apartment before you know it! :-)
Haven’t seen last night’s Lost episode yet but will sometime today. linny, good luck to you with the first season. I hope you enjoy it. kf, I like being confused when I know there’s a purpose to it. It’s the ride I enjoy more than where it’s taking me.

Shaun, what’s up with you, m’man? don’t see you too much! you know DJSlim has always “given” Rodney links to post here…. it also brings more pops to DJ’s site! sort of a symbiotic relationship, yanno?
well, regards to those who’d like ‘em and shrugs to those who wouldn’t, LOL. Friday at last…. with a fairly nice weekend looming ahead…ojoy ojoy!
Thanks D, when it arrives I’ll probably develop a plan to watch it a little at a time so i can absorb it…. the NICE thing about “owning” it is that i can re-watch if i’m confused, or miss something, i can back up, or whatever…. take it at my own pace rather than the once a week dosage we get from the tv people!
catch you later!

I’m sitting in my son’s apartment bored out of my mind. It’s very small and turning on the TV would wake him up…and since sleep is very healing..I don’t want to wake him!

Cyber chatting would be lovely except, since this isn’t my computer, I have to type in my name and email address each time I post…have the time I forget to do it and lose everything I wrote! Idiot!
Anyway…I’m enjoying the change of scenery, getting used to driving a stick shift again and hoping to get this guy back on his feet again so I can go home!!!
