1/27: Blake Lewis contest winner, Carrie Underwood’s “All American Girl” video out

Congratulations Derek Kuipers of Atlanta, who wins a Blake Lewis CD and autographed poster for his 11 year old who, according to Kuipers, “spent 3 months walking around the house in sweater vests and untucked shirts beat boxing everything from lunch orders to weekend recaps.”

Carrie Underwood’s latest video “All American Girl” is out. Check out Carrie in a brunette wig and in several different costumes, including a football uniform, a waitress, a flight attendant, a cheereleader, a pageant winner, a newscaster, a teacher, a chef, a fashion designer, a vet, a doc, a politican, a cop, an astronaut, a firefighter, an artist and a bride, to name a few. The song is now at No. 12 on the country charts.

In other Carrie news, she will be performing at the Grammy’s. No surprise there!

Hello folks…my company has gone home and I’m free to blog again.

I just watched my dvr’d version of Gone Country. Weird. I guess it was just an intro but I thought they’d be doing more singing and less manure slinging.

The bus ride was something…Carnie Wilson just might be the comedian of the group…..Maureen McCormick was downright annoying with all the screeching…even John Rich gave her a look that said ‘you ain’t winning me over’ after one of her particularly obnoxious squeals. Bobby Brown…it felt like everyone was trying to convince the camera that he’s just a good, misunderstood guy! Yeah right! He leads ‘Mo’into the living room lassoed like a cow! What was he thinking? Even more, what was SHE thinking???? Julio looked befuddled most of the time. Dee Snyder was driving me crazy with the coffee crazies. Diana was too perky..I was actually glad to see her crying during the previews. She needs to show people that she’s human, not some plastic princess. Sisco(Cisco?) seemed like a pretty nice guy. And I really liked our host.

They’d better start singing soon or I won’t be staying.

Justin, WTF!!!!!! Next time just post the link.

LOL!!! well, well… thanks, i think, Justin! but WE is right… you can post the link instead to really long stuff, but! having said that, thank for posting something AI related that is a little fun (as you say, if you’re bored!)

off to work, now…see you guys later!

PS - D, i too was a little disappointed but after watching GC, i realized the whole point is Rich is not seeing “if other singers can sing country” he’s actually out to MAKE country singers out of at least one of them… so the show might be a little slow on the uptake for singing, unfortunately :( and i’m 100% with you on the Maureen and Bobby comments! i was literally scratching my head at how “good” bobby is supposed to be…yeah. right. can we say he’s doing this for damage control to his ‘public opinion’? but i have a feeling that he is gonna crash (a couple of commercial spots have alluded to it) and the producers probably will take full advantage of his bad boy image later in the show!

more comments later, the car’s warmed up and i need to scoot!

later!

January 28, 2008 9:17 AM | Link to this

amen on Marcia, WE!!!

to finish my comments… I think Dee Snider is trying to maintain is hyper personal image… i’ll never forget, my then-12 y/o son was dropped off at his very first rock concert at the fox in like 1982….to see Twisted Sister. Oy. (it may have been 13 and 1983, i’m not positive). At LEAST he didn’t come on the show in full 80’s makeup and regalia!!! that would have been too much to handle!

and once again, we have to remember, the editors and directors are doing the thinking for us on what we get to see…whether we really want to or NOT! I’d like to think that Diana isn’t always so perky, that Maureen actually CAN be quiet, that Bobby shows his azz more than we got to see, etc. i think they pick one thing about each and focus on showing that more than anything else, so we get a certain impression of the participants… gee! that sounds like some OTHER shows i’ve watched…

boss is active, guess i’d best scoot till i get a real break later!

peace :-)

Sad day here in the office. A co-worker of about ten years passed away over the weekend. She was only 47 years old. She was found Saturday by her husband in the bathroom. She died of a blood clot. I hope she was right with God.

Life’s short make the most of it.

Oh WE! My condolences to you all! You’re right… we need to remember every day that we DON’T know the end! And live accordingly (although… having said that, i know SOME people who would take that as a license to be utterly selfish and self-absorbed…but i think MOST of us would know what’s truly important, if we allowed ourselves to slow down from the rush and live.

having said that, yes i was watching and that putt was PHENOMENAL!!! I almost backed up and DVR’d it just to keep it, LOL. for anyone with an inexperienced eye for golf, it would have looked like Tiger had lost his touch, LOL! to watch the ball slow, almost stop and turn to the hole like that was sooooo coooool!

Ted The Drunk

A little article for those either not born, to young to remember, or for those who have simply forgot:

Near midnight (18-Jul-1969) on Chappaquiddick Island, a possibly drunk and definitely married Senator Ted Kennedy takes a right turn instead of a left. His car winds up skidding off Dike Bridge and is quickly submerged upside-down in salty Poucha Pond. His passenger, RFK office secretary Mary Jo Kopechne, is knocked into the back seat. Kennedy swims to safety, whereupon he fails to rescue his companion or even simply report the incident to anyone until the following morning.

Because no autopsy is ever performed on Kopechne’s body (her body had been promptly whisked out of state) it is uncertain how long it took her to drown, if she wasn’t killed on impact. Likewise, it is never established whether Kopechne was pregnant or exhibited signs of recent sexual activity.

If Teddy wasn’t drunk he still is a piece of sh*t for leaving that woman to die. Anyone that accepts an endorsement from a man like this doesn’t deserve to be president.

Actually the endorsement occurred this afternoon, during my lunch hour (someone had the boob tube on in the break room) … Caroline, Ted and one of the younger kennedeys endorsed Barak Obama. shudder

WE — Mary Jo’s mom just recently died and was buried next to Mary Jo. Sad for that family to have suffered as they did!

My dad, from the day that the “accident” was announced, started calling Chappaquiddick “Get-A-Piece-o’Quick” and i’ve never been able to think of it any other way since!

It’s always totally amazed me that he is continually re-elected. strings pulled tight, i guess sigh

I’m with D. The Dem. race is not Hillary vs. Obama. It is “The Clintons” vs. Obama. I feel that “The Clintons” thought that they were going to coast their way back into the White House, and now that it isn’t happening that way they are starting to panic. You can see it all over Hillary’s face.

Hmmm interesting that because we express specific opinions about specific persons, we become a generic group of “Democrat haters” … Shaun, hon, that sounds like baiting to me. And frankly, I’m in a mood to rise to the bait …

i don’t “hate democrats” … but i have little use for many who follow the current democrat mindset. especially the clintons!

Which is NOT to say that i’m in particular a “republican lover” any more than i am a “democrat hater” … BOTH parties have let me down on promises made and platforms raised. and performance thereof.

but in any event, stating opinions about political figures … or celebrity figures of ANY ilk, doesn’t make a person a “hater”… just opinionated!

Hello Michelle. As long as Marcia don’t win I’m good.

you know, greg, that’s a good question!

I’m with you, WE… there are so many things about Billary that just don’t jive with me.

And while Mr. Obama has some charisma, I am just not quite comfortable with his experience and background…

and i’ve said all along, i want government OUT of my life, i don’t want MORE government telling me what i have to, and can, and can’t, do.

but the complexities of how i arrive at my decisions politically, and how each and every one of YOU arrive at your decisions, is something that is way more complex than the MushBlog should be forced to handle, LOL!!!!

so, please, suffice it to say that i am not particularly happy with ANY of our candidates, but more unhappy with the current democrats than with others, at this point… and if you want to call that “hating” … well … sorry for you!

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — Indicted real estate developer and political fundraiser Tony Rezko, whose links to Sen. Barack Obama have brought his name into the national spotlight, was arrested Monday morning, an FBI spokesman said.

Tony Rezko is facing federal charges of conspiracy, influence peddling and demanding kickbacks.

Rezko was taken into custody by the FBI at his Wilmette, Illinois, home just outside Chicago following a government motion to revoke his bond, said FBI spokesman Tom Simon.

Rezko — whom Sen. Hillary Clinton referred to in a debate as having run a “slum landlord business” — has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of conspiracy, influence peddling and demanding kickbacks from companies seeking Illinois state business.

Obama, speaking Sunday to ABC’s “This Week,” described Rezko as “a friend of mine, a supporter, who I’ve known for 20 years.”

Rezko has contributed to the campaigns of numerous Democrats, including Obama

I’m sorry you’ve been offended…it wasn’t our intention but political chatting can be pretty volatile.

Deirdre, Thanks for the suggestion of the earrings, I am going down there Friday to look at some. I am not offended, but some of the comments suprised me! How did this turn into a black/white thing? Shaun…go back to 5:33pm January 28…B-Rock…he turned it into a race thing. We were talking about not liking the Clintons and having trouble deciding who we were going to vote for. some people don’t like Obama(not because of race) but I like him better than Hillary. Some people are concerned about his experience level, which is a valid concern.

But as far as it becoming a ‘race thing’ blame the ‘white hood’ comment for that.

By ,,,=^..^=,,,

January 29, 2008 9:48 AM | Link to this

SHAUN! you know me better than that!!! read my comment… i SAID i was speaking tongue-in-cheek BECAUSE of B-Rock’s comment!!!!

good lord man, surely you KNOW i am not a racist???? or will someone try to say i am because i DARE mention the words Black and White ????

My comment about Obama was based on experience and platform, i’m not thrilled with ANY of the dems, and not particularly thrilled with ANY of the reps, and SAID SO plainly earlier…

ok, i’m having a REALLY REALLY bad day so i think i will turn off the blog entirely today because i may just jump down someone’s throat who doesn’t deserve it, and it has NOTHING to do with the blog, it’s something in my personal life that isn’t going so well right now, so forgive me…i’ll see you all later!

WHO did we retaliate against?

Do you remember what I said about NOT ignoring the idiots so much anymore? We don’t ignore Flats when he gets rude. Linny calls him on it every time. That guy, whoever he was, insulted us by suggesting that our dislike for the Clintons had something to do with the Ku Klux Klan. Wouldn’t you have said something? Didn’t you, when Flats insulted you? I’m just saying, Shaun, we’re trying to learn from our mistakes.

By Deirdre

January 29, 2008 10:09 AM | Link to this

One more thing. Before you guys left this blog, the % dems to reps was very heavily weighted on the dems side. We conservatives mostly stayed quiet(or didn’t get into battles) while the liberals had their say about the current administration and it’s followers. We stepped back and stayed out of the discussions, for the most part. As you said, many of the dems have left and the balance, politically has shifted, therefore the liberals on the blog are stepping back and letting us do our rantings much like we let you have your moments, too.

I hope that liberals feel welcome on here much like I used to hope that conservatives felt welcome. I’m not particularly happy about talking politics on the blog…it tends to isolate us into groups. But I would never tell someone that they can’t talk about something they want to talk about. Not my place!

By Shay

Wait a minute, everybody that left the blog was not democratic. Everyone that left had pretty much the same feelings towards Bush, but that doesn’t mean we are all grouped together politically. No, the conservs did not stay quiet while the liberals carried on. We all decided that politics was something that shouldn’t be discussed and it rarely was. To say that the blog was heavily weighted on the dem side is saying that you assumed cause we were all black, that we were all dems. Not true! I don’t remember not one person on the blog stating that they were democratic or republican. Like someone said, just cause they don’t support Hilary or Obama doesn’t mean they are automatically Repub.

Just my two cents!! I am not arguing with you D, I am just stating my opinion of disagreement. Please don’t take offense but feel free to respond. :-)

By Deirdre

January 29, 2008 10:24 AM | Link to this

Please don’t be silent, Shaun…we like hearing from you..just try to keep in mind that y’all used to tear Republicans into little pieces and we stayed pretty calm about it most of the time.

We don’t want to upset you or any OTHER Dem on the blog. Just like I’m sure y’all never wanted to upset us but, like I said, politics is a dangerous discussion unless we can all maintain a sense of humor about it.

I don’t feel like I’m a racist but I get called one because I’m a conservative. And there are all kinds of conservatives, white, black, hispanic, Jewish, rich, poor, middle class…just like liberals have a diverse population. But both sides somehow manage to pigeonhole people.

If it were true that all Dems are poor and in the minority, then how does that explain the Kennedy family? If all conservatives were rich and old, how does Condi Rice come from the poorest family in Mississippi and become a conservative?

We have to stop making negative assumptions about the other party…both sides do it!

By Shaun

January 29, 2008 10:33 AM | Link to this

Deirdre, I know you are a good person, no doubt in my mind. I dont equate conservatism to racism. My mom was repub, till she married my dad, (he always jokes that was one thing she HAD to change) lol. Again, none of this was directed at you personally. Deirdre, your heart is as big as the moon, and please do not change.

By Deirdre

January 29, 2008 10:41 AM | Link to this

I NEVER said ‘everybody’, shay. And not everybody who left was black! What about kimmie..mynana…luvstoread? Perhaps I should have said ‘the % of liberals to conservatives” That would have been more what I meant.

We always managed to laugh about things, remember? When political discussions started, we’d get heated for about 5 minutes…then start laughing and joking about how dangerous it was.

And since you were part of the Bush-bashing(and believe me, I think he deserved some of it) you probably didn’t notice that some of us weren’t joining in or were talking, but about other things. Just like yesterday, I didn’t notice anything being directed at anybody other than the Clintons and Obama.

I would like to know who(other than Flats) said anything that would insult anyone here. It’s almost as if, Shaun, the anti Dem sentiment yesterday was regarded as anti-black…which I don’t get because, while the majority of black people in this country are democrats, the majority of dems in the country aren’t black.

By Deirdre

I love you, too, Shaun and hope to keep hearing from you.

I guess what I’m trying to say, and being way too wordy about it, is HOW did a discussion about Hillary, Bill and Barrack get translated into a racism? That’s where I’m at a total loss.

To tell you the honest to God truth…most conservatives would take Obama over either one of the Clintons ANY day! :-)

By Shaun

January 29, 2008 10:52 AM | Link to this

Deirdre, I guess it went that way because we have, for the first time, a black candidate that is really being conisered by MAINSTREAM america, not just other blacks. Should we as black people be proud? yes! And to hear blatant lies, (he is a terrorist, a muslim) is very distubing. That man is a Christian, he cant help what his parents were, but he is being lied on. Do you honestly thing that if he were a terrorist or a radical muslim that he would have made it this far? Never! Again, my post were directed at those making false accusations, not at you. I still love you very much!!!!!!!

Thanks for explaining, Shaun. You and I both know it’s the name. If 9/11 had never happened, Muslims wouldn’t be persecuted. I know he’s Christian but some people are going to be scared off by his name.

I DO question his experience level…and Hillary’s as well. What’s that joke? If living in the White House gives you enough experience to be President, then the pastry chef has more experience than Hillary!

Barack Obama is a viable candidate and people are going to take potshots at him just like they do at EVERY other candidate. You need to roll with the punches. He’s not being treated differently. As a matter of fact, if he wasn’t getting slammed at least once a day, like all the others are, THEN I’d worry about racism.

I know you’re waiting for the other shoe to drop but, so far, the ONLY people who have used Obama’s race are the Clintons! They’re very good at saying stuff then telling people they only brought it up to stop other people from talking about.
