1/15: Idol/Super Bowl cross promotion

USA Today reports that there will be plenty of “Idol” related entertainment prior to the Super Bowl.

Paula Abdul will be on video at least with her new song “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” off Randy Jackson’s new album. Whether she’ll perform live or even lip synch is up in the air.

We already know Jordin is doing the National Anthem and Ryan will host the pre-game entertainment show.

And the strike is causing “Idol” ad rates to skyrocket to upwards of $1 million a spot as the finale draws near, according to the L.A. Times..

According to TNS Media Intelligence, which tracks ad spending, “Idol” last year collected $810 million in revenue, up 39% from 2006. Some analysts estimate the show’s ad revenue could soar 20% this year.

And how about this for strange? “American Idol Rewind,” season two, featuring Clay and Ruben, is way down in the ratings from season one. This from Broadcasting and Cable:

In season two, momentum for American Idol Rewind is trending downward, according to Nielsen Media Research, with the show falling off season-to-date 37% in households, 38% among both women 18-49 and women 25-54 and 40% among women 18-34, the demo with whom the show expects to fare best.

Finally, “Idol Chatter” has Randy Jackson’s eclectic CD info in detail: Kat McPhee and Elliott Yamin do a duet. Others include Jason Mraz, Van Hunt, Keb ‘Mo, Angie Stone, Travis Tritt and Barbi Esco.
