1/14: On Kimberley Locke, Clay, Fantasia
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
I’m working on the annual “Idol returns” story for the print edition Tuesday. Anybody here who would like to be quoted and offer your sage observations of the past season and how things are going to go this year can email me at rho@ajc.com. I’ll need to use your real name, city of residence and age.
We already have a photo gallery featuring quick updates on 14 “Idol” contestants which you may seen on ajc.com.
Other publications have done theirs already, including the Los Angeles Times and USA Today.
Nigel Lythgoe told the LA Times that 30% of the Hollywood finalists used instruments when given the chance but he thought of those, only 10% did particularly well.
In other “Idol” news:
How did you get into a fight with that lady on a plane?
I’m not going to talk about it.
I was just curious because you’ve never talked about it.
I did talk about it. [Yes, he did. Poor Newsweek gal didn’t do her research! And it’s true. This is really old stuff to ask him about.] Here’s the story.
What about the Kelly Ripa thing?
I’m not going to discuss it.
Did you think it was homophobic?
I’m not going to discuss it. [Wow. There’s an oldie from November, 2006!]
What do you want to talk about?
I think we’re done.
Can we talk about something fun?
No, we’re done. I thought NEWSWEEK would be more reputable. I’m surprised.
But I think people are curious about it.
It was a year ago. This is NEWSWEEK. It’s not the National Enquirer. I’d hate to have a job where I had to be rude to people.
Well, there are far harsher things she could have asked him about but now if I ever interview him, I know I’d have to tread lightly on certain topics or get the same treatment, I’m sure! Do you think he reacted okay?
We’re just having a conversation. Change the subject! I’d never take a job where I had to do something that I didn’t want to do.
Kimberley Locke is dating the “Fit Club” trainer Harvey E. Walden IV, according to People..
For Locke, romance developed after the Fit Club cameras stopped rolling. “We worked out on the show together for four months and never even said anything to each other,” says the “Band of Gold” singer, 30. “I thought he was mean. I didn’t want him to be mean to me, but then after the show was over and I saw him outside of work, he was really nice.”
DJ Slim reports that Sanjaya and his sister Shyamali are shopping a “Donnie & Marie”-type variety show. Odds that this will ever come to screen: the chances of Paula’s new single winning a Grammy. Of course, if Shyamali were required to wear tight shirts, the male population would approve. (see video below)
Dallas Austin does a fundraiser every year to raise money for instruments and music education for local schools and Fantasia is going to be there. It’s at Cobb Energy Centre March 1. But if you’re short of cash, don’t bother: it’s $1,000 per person. But you also get George Clinton, Gladys Knight, Orlando Jones and Cedric the Entertainer. You can buy tickets here at www.dallasaustinfoundation.org

Sanjaya and his sister have their best chance right now because of the writers strike. Might as well try…I won’t watch!
Mr Hollywood tells me that the prevailing attitude about the writers’ strike is that the leadership of their union does NOT have their best interests at heart and seems to relish the disruption rather than press for further negotiations. He thinks that it will take the writers rebelling against their own leadership to end the strike.
You’ve very generously quoted me in the print edition before, Rodney. Give someone else a chance. Besides, that age requirement is downright rude! :-)
And when did the ajc blogs open up for comments on the weekend?

whoa!! i’m with you, D, when did the AJC blogs allow weekend postings??? cool! at least one good thing happens, LOL!
Watched more football this weekend than i have all year, i think… sorry Peyton didn’t manage to pull his team through the eye of the needle and make it to the finale for the division, but glad bro’ Eli did! Glad to see the Giants win that one! But sorry Tony Dunge may find this his last season in Indy, he deserves much better! I really like that guy!
I may or may not e-mail you some thoughts, Rodney, haven’t really had a chance to think about your topic yet…
hope everyone had an awesome weekend!

Wow, Clay really stood up for himself in that interview, good for him. I thought he was off the map about 2 months after Idol ended.
Does he think he’s a celebrity now, by the way? I mean, he certainly had more than 15 minutes, probably more like a half hour, but still, he’s in no way a celebrity. There are good spoof videos of him, which are very funny, and a bajillion spoof videos of Idol itself. (this one is my favorite… idol spoof )

Rodney…did you not have that bit about Clay in the posting earlier? I’m proud of him. It takes some guts to tell a reporter(no offense, Rodney) to back off. he did it fairly politely too then made his point about the subjects having been already talked about and, after a year, it should be OLD news.
Good morning fellow mushblogians! I had a good weekend. How about y’all!

And briefly, on the football(since this is an Idol blog and Idol starts tomorrow night)
I was sure the Manning Bros’ fates would go the other way. Peyton wins, Eli loses. What a surprise! I hope Romo and his girl friend aren’t too disappointed. And how about Brett Favre!!!!?

Good Morning Bloggers — thought I would throw out a few random thoughts before the work monster gets me.
WOOT - The fun starts tomorrow night.
What is everyone’s over-under on Gold Ticket winners shown among the horrible riff-raff. I predict 7 in 2 hours IF WE ARE LUCKY.
Good to see Jessica Romo go down to defeat —— now he can go snuggle with Ms. Simpson for the entire off-season. Meanwhile the Manly Man among QB’s keeps on going — Go Brett go PACKERS!!!!!
SO, did anyone watch Sara Connor Chronicles last night? I was actually pleasantly surprised. A lot of action, and seems to be fairly well written. We shall see if it can keep up the quality through multiple episodes, but the with the writers strike the show has a good chance of building an audience.

Morning Mike…yes I watched Terminator last night! I liked the concept and I was really pleased with the time travel ending, especially in regards to her boy friend and her pursuer. The episode tonight will tell us a lot about where it’s going and if it’s going to get there.
I also watched the first part of Comanche Moon last night and am amazed at how well Steve Zahn is doing as the young Gus McCrae! Very impressive!

I agree on the Favre comments, that gentleman deserves one more time!
i too was sure the Mannings would be celebrating early and commiserating late, only to watch the flip-flop of the fickle finger of fate, but i can’t say i’m sorry at ALL about Eli winning… I have to admit, however, I sorta wanted to see Mr. Dunge’s boys take this one, again. I’ve always liked him since the Buccaneer days.
I accidentally watched the Chronicles and was also pleasantly surprised. I may be dvr-ing that series since hubby isn’t interested and watching it while he’s at work, lol!
speaking of work, guess i’d better log off and head out! see you guys later!

Elana…sorry…thanks for the link! Yes, Clay is a celebrity…he’s a minor one but he’s managed to get his name and face in the news often enough to give him celebrity status…sort of on the same level as, say, Erin Moran from Happy Days…you know who he is, you’re a little curious about what he’s been doing, but if you never heard from him again….you might not notice.
I expect him to appear on Dancing With the Stars…and not only will he dance, but he’ll sing along (a first for the show!) :-)

On Comanche Moon..as y’all might remember, I was a little torn between watching it with hubby Tuesday and Wednesday and missing the last hour of those oh so ‘wonderful’ auditions on Idol but…..the problem has solved itself. Hubby can’t stand the commercials so he wants to dvr Comanche Moon and watch it later in the week!!! YEA!!!!! I say that now but wait till I’m an hour and a half into the nightmarish audition show and I’ll be changing my tune!

Rodney, you left out one of the Clay interview questions where he kind of disrespects AI.
Are you going to watch “Idol”?
I haven’t watched since season four. I compare it to high-school football—if it weren’t for high school, we wouldn’t be successful, but I don’t need to keep going to the football games.

So true, War Eagle. If you have something to say about American Idol…then SAY IT!!! Don’t sit around complaining that OTHER people aren’t saying anything about it.
We’ll talk about IDOL all you want! But we go off on tangents every now and then. You’d be better at getting us back on topic if you’d just say something about Idol instead of complaining!

Shaun … why are you “so mad” to quote your words…
take a deep breath, my friend. ain’t NOTHING about football worth getting apoplexic about!!!!
I’m glad that the ‘boys didn’t win not because i have anything against them personally, but I just wanted to see the Giants win … especially after Peyton let the Manning name down, I was particularly enjoying seeing ELI get his for a change.
but it’s all about the same importance to me as who wins AI, or Amazing Race, or DWTS, or anything else. I’m not personally involved, it’s entertainment, and it doesn’t directly affect ME or my family and friends…
I’m tired of folks dissing AI viewers. Just HOW is that any less significant than spending a minimum of 3 hours (and usually much more) per day on the weekends watching a bunch of macho guys pounding on each other up and down a 100-yard field in any kind of weather? or running back and forth on a wooden court in squeaky shoes for a couple of hours? or hitting a little white ball around a beautiful landscape? or watching some guy/gal cook a fancy-dancy meal that no one gets nourished by? or…. oh hell i think you get the idea.
it’s freaking ENTERTAINMENT folks
that’s all! everyone needs to take chill pills and get off the personal animosity thing!

By Deirdre
January 14, 2008 10:57 AM | Link to this
I’m looking for a Brady vs Favre Super Bowl old vs young! They are both brilliant quarterbacks….it would truly, IMO, be a SUPER bowl!
And on linny’s statement about entertainment…ditto….I mean, come on! We’re here to be entertained, not to solve the problems facing modern civilization! Doesn’t really matter who wins Idol…it’s the journey that counts…same goes for football!
By War Eagle
January 14, 2008 11:06 AM | Link to this
D, I am going to have to disagree with your last statement. When it comes to football the only thing that does matter is who wins. This time next year nobody will remember the journey, they will only remember who gets the ring.
I’m picking GB over NY mainly because of the home field advantatge.
I’m picking NE over SD for basically the same reason. SD is hot right now. I think they will keep it close if they can heal up during the week.

ALL CAPS…calm yourself, honey…by tomorrow night, ALL we will be talking about is American idol…until then, go take a little blue pill and leave us alone!
I guess that’s true for football fans, War Eagle but the outcome really doesn’t matter in the whole scheme of things and the only real job football has(just like Idol)is to entertain us.
By MItch

Hey all. How has everyone been?
What a day I picked to check in on the blog. It seems ALL CAPS does not like “tlak”ing about anything on the blog besides AI. If he/she has ever read the blog before they would know that:
1) Many things are discussed besides AI even in the middle of the season and
2) Rodney has no problems with other topics being discussed.
So, “ALL CAPS”, please stop the attitude and contribute to the AI discussion if that is what you want to talk about and you will find many will discuss it with you.
Not sure how much I will be on, for some reason this blog freezes my explorer so…
Anyway, good to see everyone again.
By ,,,=^..^=,,,
January 14, 2008 11:17 AM | Link to this
Um AC, hon…. Rodney LIKES our diversity!!! Once AI actually starts, about 90% of the conversations WILL be about AI. During the “off season” we keep the blog going by talking about “stuff” … up to and including Football. Now, what’s “stupid” is a matter of personal opinion, and to ME, “stupid” includes typing in all caps and lambasting people for something you obviously know nothing about!!!
Again, if you have something to say ABOUT American Idol, please DO feel free to say it; however if your sole purpose in life is to search blogs for “inappropriate material” (i.e., not “on-topic”), go somewhere else, because you know not of what you speak!!!

The Marine guard snaps to attention, salutes, and says: Nice pigs, sir.”
The President replies “Oh, young man, these are not pigs. You see, I just came back from Arkansas. These are authentic Arkansas Razorback Hogs. I got one for Senator Hillary Clinton and I got one for our new Speaker of The House, Nancy Pelosi.”

Everyone here at work is already talking about 1-4 inches of snow on Thursday and how they are definitely taking the day off work. LOL :)

The best part is when the cameraman with the reporter is trying to get the flurry to show up on the camera so the rest of Georgia knows that the weathermen weren’t crazy!

And Amy brought up another good blog pool topic. At what time of the day will your local Kroger run out of milk, bread and eggs. That usually happens pretty fast so I’m predicting 4:30pm on Tuesday!

I’m going to predict that we get little, if any snow. This is just a conspiracy put in place by the government to boost the economy.

LOL War Eagle….that’s usually hubby’s plan, too. I go get the milk, bread and eggs and he loads up on meat and beer. Together, we manage to get through just about anything!
I’m out for the day. Enjoy your evening everyone. I’ll be watching episode 2 of the Sarah Conner Chronicles. And reading the latest Dean Koontz book. Chat with you tomorrow, when we can start counting hours instead of days to the premier of season 7 of American Idol!!!!!
there, ALL CAPS, are you happy now?!

Speaking of all the bread, eggs & milk flying off the shelves, Paual asked once if everyone made bread pudding when they called for snow or ice.

lol Mitch. maybe so. but don’t forget also the other item most bought before an ice/snow storm in Georgia:
toilet paper!!!
i won’t EVEN comment on that…

Toilet paper is one of those things you never think about until you are sitting there and there are only two or three sheets left and you wonder if that is going to be enough.
Answer: No it is not enough.

Right now the local forcast is for just a cold rain. I don’t think the weather people are quite ready to predict a snow or ice storm yet.
Everybody have a good one except for ALL CAPS. As much whinning as you do I would imagine that you make everyone around you miserable.

LOL, Eagle, I know! (enough) … now-adays, also, many people stock up on bottled water. It would be different if we were going to be locked in tight for weeks, but my goodness! 2 days not able to travel and Atlanteans act as if the world is seriously ending!
LOL!!!

I think ‘ALL CAPS’ may have already left the site. I have to admit. I do feel a little sorry for ‘ALL CAPS’ but what does he/she expect? AI7 hasn’t even started yet. What are we REALLY supposed to write about at this point? Of course, once it does start (tomorrow night), I’m sure ‘ALL CAPS’ will be ecstatic! Sad part is, now no one will want to exchange any words with him/her. He/she seems to have already made a mark for him/herself…not necessarily in a good way. Hope there are forgiving hearts out there. Looking forward to chattin’ with you all in the coming weeks/months! ‘Night!

Making Sense, we welcome you and anyone else who wants to have a nice conversation about anything. ALL CAPS is welcome anytime he/she wants to join in on, or start a conversation. There is just a wrong way and a right way to go about it. I don’t think anyone here was really offended today by anyrhing ALL CAPS said. We have heard much worse.
I’m really out this time.
