10/11: Idol sales

I got back from out of town yesterday and decided to wait until today to check out the “Idol” auditions but dang it, they finished a day early! Employees here at the Georgia International Convention Center off Camp Creek Parkway said they worked late into the night so they could cut out ahead of time. As I walk around at noon Thursday, there is no evidence they were even here. Bummer. I briefly pondered showing up last night and I should have.
From past behavior, I figured they would set aside two days for the executive producers to pare down the 300 to 500 people down to 75 to 150 for Randy, Paula and Simon. There are two possible reasons why they cut it a day: to accommodate the judges’ schedule or there weren’t as many finalists for them to see so they were able to get them all done in one day.
I’m still supposed to see Bo Bice later today at 6:30 at the Cumming Country Fair. Blogger Lara Thompson, who is a huge Bo fan and blogged more regularly on this site in 2005, is joining me. Bo’s mom lives in Cumming by the way, which is why he’s doing this festival, the same festival he cancelled last year due to intestinal problems. Hey, at least he’s not doing an outlet opening in El Paso:
The “Idol sales” dude Ken Barnes at Idol Chatter provides download and CD sales each week. Here are some of the totals to tide you over til my next post.
Top downloads include Jordin Sparks’ “Tattoo” ranked at No. 22, 33K in sales for the week, 67K total. The song is now a top 40 single.
Daughtry’s “Over You,” No. 28, 29K in sales, 310K total (“Home” is at 1.06 million and “”It’s Not Over” is up to 1.48 million). “Over You” is now his third top 10 single from the Daughtry album.
Elliot’s “Wait For You,” No. 65, 15K for wk, 718K total
Carrie’s “So Small,” No. 69, 15K, 196K total (“Before He Cheats” is at a whopping 1.84 million and still ranked at No. 86
Kelly’s Reba duet is at 123 with 182K total in sales
Only four Idols are on the Top 200 Billboard sales chart:
Daughtry, No. 38, 20K, 3.17 mil total (His latest single is helping sustain sales.)
Carrie, No. 89, 9K, 5.95 million total (She’s slipping now that they’ve moved on to a new single on her new CD out Oct. 23)
Kelly C., No. 124, 6K, 673K total
Elliott, No. 155, 5K 417K If he gets a hot second single, he should be able to reach 500K relatively quickly but if he doesn’t, it may take a long while
Off the top 200 including Kelly’s Breakaway, now at 5.86 million total after 3,800 sold
