9/6: Idol tour numbers down

Ken Barnes at USA Today studied the first 30 dates of the “Idols Live” tour and found attendance way down from a year ago, which is not a surprise to anybody at all.

Last year, at this point, there were 17 sellouts and 27 shows which exceeded 93% percent full. The lowest capacity figure was 89.3%

This year, there are zero sellouts and only one selling 93%-plus in Glendale, Ariz., home to Jordin Sparks. Nearly half the shows were below 60 percent and interestingly, the worst-performing market so far of the first 30? Birmingham, home to Taylor, Ruben and Bo: just 38.9%. In other words, this is chalking up to be comparable to season three.

Season four was somewhat in between with 11 sellouts among the first 29 dates and 15 exceeding 93%.

The tour has been raising ticket prices (and hopefully the Idols themselves are getting paid better, too.). Ticket prices averaged $44.47 in 2005 and are now $60.45. That’s a hefty 36% increase in two years. They better not do that again in 2008!

So if you want to go to the “Idols Live” tour at the last second Sept. 12, no worries. You’ll be able to buy decent seats at the window or fish around for cheap seats around the Web.

9/5: Idols on new game show tonight

Tonight at 8:30 p.m. on WATL-TV, there’s a new game show called “Temptation,” based on the old “Sale of the Century” show and it will feature three “Idol” alums vying for charity: Justin Guarini, Kimberly Caldwell and Mikalah Gordon. I haven’t seen it so I can’t say it will be remotely entertaining or not but in the preview on WATL-TV shows Justin with his big ‘do wrapped back.

Also, the final week of “Revisionist Idol” is on this week over at Idol Chatter.. Vote, vote, vote! Last week, surprisingly, Elliott Yamin won, beating out Taylor, Kat and Chris Daughtry. The theory is that many Taylor, Kat and Daughtry fans refused to include the others on their list but almost everybody had Elliott there. He was somebody very few people disliked.

Daughtry came in a solid second (vs. his actual fourth-place finish), just ahead of actual winner Taylor Hicks. Kellie Pickler (yah!) jumped to fourth from sixth. I’m very psyched about that! Mandia jumped up to fifth, a surprise jump from ninth but she was another one I liked and was bummed to see go so soon. Bucky moved up to sixth from eighth, another beneficiary of a surprisingly good sales performance, post “Idol.” Kat dropped from second to seventh. No surprise there given that her type of crowd may not have been the type to vote in this competition. Paris also fell, from fifth to eighth. She’s been relatveiliy invisible since the show. Ace dropped from 7th to 9th. No CD so far may have hurt him. Lisa Tucker held at 10th. That’s about right. Melissa McGhee moved up to 11th from 12th. I never liked her. And Kevin Covais, poor guy, should never have been in the top 12 and fell to last with almost no votes.
