12/19: Favorite Idol moments

It’s getting to that time: what are some of your most memorable Idol moments from 2006?

I can’t imagine it was the Brittenum twins? (Remember them?)

But how about:

Kellie’s calamari comments?

Paris’s amazing initial audition?

The reaction of Chris Daughtry when he was surprisingly voted off?

Taylor yelping out “Soul Patrol!” again (and again and again)?

Clay and his “twin” during the finale singing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”?

Ace showing off his scar?

Or was it something related to an alum?

The Faith Hill reaction after Carrie won the CMA for best female vocalsit? Fantasia’s film? Jennifer Hudson’s upcoming rendition of the Jennifer Holliday classic, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going?” Clay covering Kelly Ripa’s mouth on “Regis & Kelly?”

First: Kelly Clarkson singing “Stuff Like That There.” The single best Idol performance ever. Period. Second: Fantasia singing “Summertime.” Third: Kelly Clarkson singing, “Don’t Play That Song Again.”

My most memorable moments from 2006, note 2006 Charles (just kidding), was Taylor singing “Try a little Tenderness”, David Haselhoff crying when Taylor won (how weird was that), Paris’ “Midnight Train to Georgia”, and my single most memorable moment was when they flashed the camera to Bucky’s brother Rocky. When I saw two of them, I damn near fainted!!!

My most memorable moment of the ‘06 season was the finale. It was the best one they’ve ever had. The funniest moment moment was of course fake Clay’s overenthusiasm as real Clay came on stage. But a close second was that porn show Toni Braxton put on with Taylor. He didn’t know what to do!! Priceless!!

My most memorable moment was when Simon told Taylor that Randy and Paula would not put him through to the next round. I knew that he would move on, but to take the whole darn thing was amazing.

Did y’all know that Taylor was my favorite?

Fantasia’s Summertime was my second favorite.

Chris’ reaction when he was booted was DEFINITELY NOT my favorite Idol moment. It was the most painful Idol moment for Chris fans.

My favorite Idol moment was when Chris sand “Hemorrhage” and Simon said that Chris was the standard for all the guys.

Morning All: Clay & his twin singing that song together was hilarious especially when the “twin” turned around and saw Clay he acted like he had won the lottery shaking & grinning like a little girl then, he continued to sing with Clay and Ryan Seacrest finally pulled him to the side so Clay could finish the song by himself….that was soooooooo funny! have a good day and a GREAT HOLIDAY y’all :)

Good morning everyone. The holidays have kept me busy (NONSTOP) but I couldn’t resist this topic. There are so many things to choose from but my absolute favorite “moment” has been this blog. The discussions have been wonderful and horrible. The people who inhabit this space make watching Idol even more entertaining than it already is. There is nothing better, after the Idol performance show than to get on this blog and argue endlessly about who was the best…..Isn’t it always amazing how differently individuals see things? And second place for best Moment is after the results show when some of us are crying in our beer and others are rejoicing. Great topic, Rodney!

Thanks Dee. As as part of the blog and someone who contributes to that “moment” for you, I would like to give a few personal thank yous.

First and foremost, I would like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Without him, there would be no blog. Secondly, I would like to thank Rodney for continuously creating topics that allow us to express our opinions. Third, I would like to thank the many people on here that have supported me through my crazy posts. I would like to thank all MPDs of 2006 (smile: you know who you are. I love ya! And last but not least, I would like to thank the AJC. There were times when I wasn’t feeling my best, physically and emotionally and this blog been an outlet for me to let go of those daily frustrations.

I love you guys and I will take this trophy home in pride. I have a special Idol table reserved for it. I only hope to get more nominations next year. Look out 2007!!

Hey Deirdre! I hope everything is going well for you and that your holidays are pleasant. Please take some time to rest and enjoy.

What a wonderful comment. I do all I can to keep this blog exciting. Rodney helps, but he stays pretty busy, so most of the work falls on me. It’s a difficult job, but somebody’s gotta do it!

With the exception of my 85 year old mother(whose health has seriously deteriorated this year) no one else in my house watches Idol. At the end of a show…when I’m just brimming with opinions and questions, this blog gives me an outlet. I’ve checked out other blogs…not cheating on Rodney, you understand, just curious. Most I’ve looked at seem determined to tear the non favorite contestants into little pieces and chew them up and spit them out with glee. Here, the contestants that are disliked are still treated(mostly) with a modicum of respect…..even Mike’s discription of some of them “sucking sewer water” is more about the performance than the person. I appreciate that because, in talking about the singing rather than the singer, we show respect to each other….knowing that some of us actually liked the guy who “sucked sewer water”!

I’m looking forward to next season for 2 reasons. Because I love the show and because I love talking about the show with all you fine people!

I would like to thank everyone for your loyalty and support throughout the years. I decided not to enter the contest to allow others a chance to win. Thanks to me, Taylor was the winner. I peril the thought of what this world would be like without my presence.

Please keep your seats…take them home….and wash them, because you don’t know who’s been sitting on them.

When the obnoxious girl…thank God I have forgotten her name, apparently so has the music industry, when she held her hand up like a phone after she was booted off and said ..” Clive..call me..here’s my digits…” I am sure he called her, called her several things that can’t be printed here.

Good Morning! Favorite moment…hmmm, that would have to be EVERY time Taylor took the stage :-) Seriously though, I would have to say the finale. That was hands down the best and the Clay/ Fake Clay moment was great.

This blog has been a great part of it too. Thanks Deirdre! I didn’t comment much last season and I am really looking forward to getting in on the discussions this time around.

C’mon now jex, you got to air my dirty laundry in front of everyone?!? And I did reply to your emails!! They must have gotten lost in transition. You know how it is, I have been having computer problems, viruses and what not, and the dog ate my first check. It was horrible. But, The check is in the mail now…expect it in 6-8 weeks.

Mystique, save those lies for the rent man because we ain’t havin’ it this year. We already had to suspend Carla’s access to the blog last season for trying to make a partial payment just to keep her account somewhat active.

Favorite moments from 2006!

Simon’s insistance that Taylor would not go far on Idol.

The lunacy of the viewers in picking Kevin Covais for the final 12.

Kat’s jaw-drop when Chris was eliminated instead of her!

Chris’ version of ‘Walk the Line’.

Taylor’s version of ‘Something’

Elliot’s version of ‘Moody’s Mood’.

Kat’s version of ‘Black Horse and the Cherry Tree’.

Paris’ version of ‘Fever’.

The Brittenum twins getting eliminated and finally shutting up!

The finale!(except for Prince)

My favorite Idol moment was when it was off the air. Don’t you people have a life outside the idiotbox?

By Sarah

December 19, 2006 3:43 PM | Link to this

Any time one of The Queens got up, snapped a finger and called out one of the judges, priceless. Especially when one ‘guy’ called Miss Paula out about her old hits, Straight Up I think it was…. that was classic. He called her tired. Also, any time Paula cried was an AOL moment. What we didn’t know was that the tears were because her dealer called and said he was out of Vicodin for the time being.

I’m not a tv hater but I DO agree with blogger “TV Hater” about (ugh) American Eye-Dull. Amazes me how the corporate media tells us to like the worst drivel & 99% of the country are such sheeple they just lap it up because they can’t be bothered, or are just plain unable, to think for themselves. Life is too short for ordinary music & substandard mentalities. One of the most talented singers I know couldn’t get on Eye-Dull (I could never figure out why he’d even WANT to) because he’s over 30. Gee, a singer’s voice becomes fuller & richer once they become an adult. At least Eye-Dull doesn’t judge by looks as evidenced by Hippo-Hiney Fantasia. All reality-based TV is mind-rotting trash that caters to the lowest common denominator. No wonder this country has been dumbed-down to kindergarten level.

While is keeping thinking about my most memorable 2006 moment, i have to say that Clay has to know that gaydar’s all over the world began ringing off the hook when Clay junior nearly passed out when He saw Clay come on stage. That was priceless, but…

By diane

December 19, 2006 4:40 PM | Link to this

Now Chris’ Walk the Line performance was very good. He also sang another one that i really liked but people who were familar with the song said he copied another artist. What was the title of that song. I beleive the next week, he did mention Live or some group.

I did nto really watch season 1, but not much can beat Fantasia singing Summertime, but i will stay on topic on only discuss this season. The finale was very good, but Taylor being the winner can only bring so much to the table as top moments.

Shay, you lowlife inbred piece of trailer-trash, go date your sister! And for your info, idiot, my “place” is light-years above yours. Someone of your low calibre (sorry about the BIG WORDS, Knuckle-Scraper) really has no right even addressing the likes of me. People who watch “American Eye-Dull” are pathetic & have to live vicariously through others because they have no lives of their own. I bet you refer to celebrities by their first names as if you know them. So sad..

By Deirdre

December 19, 2006 5:34 PM | Link to this

One has to wonder, Cyndee, why you felt the need to come on a blog about American Idol if you hate it so much. Apparently your purpose is to denigrate the people here who enjoy the show. You have every right to dislike the show….obviously… but I fail to understand why you think it’s okay to call people who like the show ‘pathetic’, ‘idiot’ and’trailer trash’. Oh, I forgot ‘knucklescraper’ and ‘inbred’. I realize that there are lots of people like you in the world….people whose only way of validating themselves is to put other people down but I fail to understand why. I guess we all just have to face the fact that we will never be in agreement about some things and perhaps, if we’re not interested in the subject, we should just butt out.

2006 Idol was boring. HOWEVER, the best Idol moment of all time is easy; but only few of us saw it! After the first American Idol, Fox hosted a World Idol two-night contest bringing together winners from other nations. Norway’s phenom Kurt Nilsen won handily, virtually embarassing Kelly Clarkson as his talent is completly out of Kelly’s league. The look on Kelly’s face—-was one for all time! She was so angry I thought she’d burst a vein. But, she was totally outclassed…and knew it. Great freakin’ television, and the ONLY time these Idol competitions have uncovered superstar talent….but, Kurt lives over there, so you probably won’t hear about the best singer these Idols have ever found. Sigh!

Kellie Pickler provided my two favorite moments last season. I loved her “Bohemian Rhapsody” and only wish she could have kept that momentum going. After that, during the finale, her clowning with Wolfgang Puck. I wish her all good things.
