12/14: Early sales for Hicks, Fantasia
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Based on projected one-day sales Tuesday courtesy of hitsdailydouble.com, Atlanta’s Young Jeezy may outgun Taylor Hicks for the No. 1 slot next week but it should be a battle. Early projections have Young Jeezy at 325 to 350K while Hicks is around 300K. (That was about what I predicted with no information at all yesterday.)
Fantasia is targeted to hit 150K, a bit below my prediction of about 200K. Her single s doing okay on the mainstream urban radio charts, up to No. 27 from 32 a week earlier, according to Mediabase 24/7.
In last week’s sales news, Chris Daughtry moves another 155,000 copies in week three, dropping from 3 to 7 on the Billboard top 200 but now up to 614,000. One more week and he’ll be pass Bo Bice for second best non-winner to this point. Even if “It’s Not Over” is not a radio hit, he should clear 1 million with no sweat off his bald head. So far, “It’s Not Over” is getting a decent reaction. It’s at 37 on the top 40 charts, 24 on the Hot AC charts, 31 on active rock and 49 on alternative after just two weeks, according to Mediabase 24/7.
Kellie Pickler moves up to 52 from 57, with 34,000 in sales and 228,000 total. If “Red High Heels” keeps climbing the country charts (it’s up to 23 on Radio and Records), she could easily clear 400K or even 500K.
Carrie Underwood continues to sell boatloads of CDs more than a year after the release of “Some Hearts.” She moved 126,000 and now has sold 4.1 million. (She’s ranked No. 10, up from 13)
Clay sees a small Christmas pickup as his CD moves from 135 to 119, with 15K in sales and 441K total.
Ruben drops to 182 from 176 with 8,400 copies moved and 157K total.
All these numbers above are courtesy of USA Today’s Idol Chatter. I don’t think Ken Barnes, the writer, has ever read my blog. I can’t recall him ever citing it though MJ was nice enough to do so Wednesday on her most excellent AI blog.

Chris continues to do AMAZING! He is a 4th place finisher who has gotten minimal promotion, no video, and is just starting to get airplay and he is has now shipped platinum and has staying power on the charts when his Top 40 cohorts (Jay-Z, Incubus, U2, Snoop) have fallen off the charts.
Simply AMAZING!

I understand people not liking Hip Hop music because there are so many other types of music that give off positive messages to our youth and so forth, but it just seems like some of the comments on this blog go way beyond the lyrics of hip hop. I can read the anger is some of the past comments towards hip hop artists (not because of the lyrics) but for other reasons I won’t mention. I remember someone commenting that the hip hop artists are “just a bunch of monkeys jumping around on stage”. To me, that statement is far beyond not liking the lyrics to a song. As it has been stated before numerous times, just because you don’t like a genre of music does NOT mean that it should be banned from the shelves. Some of these kids work really hard to make great albums and to stereotype a genre of music is very immature. I do admit that some of it is garbage and negative, but that is not all that is being put on the shelves. All I am trying to say is to respect the industry where respect is due and don’t stereotype because its unfair if you just bundle all our hip hop artist into this bang em’ up shoot em’ down catergory because that’s not always the case. It reminds me of how people disliked some of the idol contestants because they chose to sing gospel, R&B, or even country songs. Just because you don’t listen to that music does not mean they don’t have talent or can’t sing.
Shay steps down from the podium and waits on the sidelines for all the negative comments

Yeah, the world is a crappy place because people curse. If we could only stop using bad words, all the problems of society would be quelled.
Shay, how many cups of coffee have you had this morning, sweetie?

Aahhh…the ol’ frustration jolt. That’ll get you going. But you know how it gets in here some times.
Anywho…
I’m a little surprised at the numbers for Fantasia. I’m not a fan of hers, but I do like a couple of tracks from her new CD and plan on buying it this weekend. I thought her true fans would have swarmed the stores for it by now.

Good Morning!!! Wow, Shay, you really know how to work that soapbox! I myself am not a big hip hop fan but don’t think it should be outlawed or anything. Lawdy, Lawdy! I have found something on Rodney’s other thread to put me in a good mood this morning. Perhaps y’all should check it out too?!? Jex, especially, would be pleased ;-)
Congrats to my man for the somewhat stellar sales. I was afraid this CD wouldn’t be too well received. I love it! Have to start my moring with a shot of Taylor Hicks #12 or it is just not a good day :-)
Mikalah?! Uggggh, she is Kellie Pickles with a new york accent! Beyond annoying. I literally shudder at the thought!
Don’t be dissapointed with Tasia’s sales, 150K is totally promising. She could pick up! First week usually tends to be kind of rocky. Great for Chris and Carrie holding on.

Well heck, jex! You beat me to it. I was hoping to be the bearer of good news. I should have known you wouldn’t miss that news. You have Taylor Radar!!
I am soooooo excited! Can’t wait to rush out and get those tickets. And how awesome that it comes right at Christmas?!? My cousin and I are huge Taylor fans. I have already gotten her gift but will be taking it back for Taylor tickets instead!!

Girl, c’mon now, you know I am too excited over the upcoming Taylor show to even think about that! Not taking it back persay, its a gift card so it will just go to a different family member! That is the beauty of those things, they are transferable ;-)

I bought Fantasia’s CD based on her single “Hood Boy” that’s receiving radio play right now and her CD is very nice. To all of you who are fans she has 3 exceptional ballads that I have played over and over. I think she will do more than 150K her first week. I am also proud of Taylor and Chris who are doing the d@#m thing. And shout out to Jeezy being #1 cause “I LUV IT”.

Did y’all hear that Bouncy got a boob job? What the heck is that nonsense all about?
By mystique
December 14, 2006 3:20 PM | Link to this
A boob job? I don’t get that. She didn’t need one. Dang, that is just needless surgery right there.

December 14, 2006 3:37 PM | Link to this
Mystique, she didn’t have any breasts so that’s probably why she got one if that’s true.

I think she did. I saw picutes of the premiere and “the girls” look pretty full. I think it was needless too, but you have to keep up with the trends in the industry. I mean, she’s already 25 for Pete’s sake. She’s over the hill.
Thank goodness she didn’t overdo it like New York.

New York is a scank(?)and she got those huge implants so she could look scankier(?)(if that’s possible).
By Shay
December 14, 2006 4:17 PM | Link to this
I don’t think she had a boob job. She just looks fuller around the bust area because she lost 20 pounds and it fell off at the bottom.
Eve, New York does look nasty right about now!

Yeah, jex, I saw some pictures in people and Bouncy’s girls were out for the premier! Shay, I had always thought that she was ok in that area. Maybe she just had one of those really good bras that give the illusion of breasts! In hollywood I guess nothing is ever good enough. Heck, if I had that kind of money I guess I would be getting something done too.
