12/11: Diana stalker pleads guilty
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
According to the Australian paper the Age,, the woman who tried to extort money from Diana DeGarmo Monday pled guilty to blackmail and stalking. She demanded between $15,000 and $25,000 to go away last spring.
Between March and June, Tanya Maree Quattrocchi of Melbourne, Australia, called DeGarmo’s cel phone 369 times and text-messaged her 570 times.
The paper said in April, Quattrocchi emailed the singer’s producer pretending to be her and was given two of her unreleased songs she later threatened to release publicly if DeGarmo did not meet her online, it said.
“No matter how many times I changed my passwords or tried to keep my information safe, she would always break back in,” DeGarmo told the court in a statement. She eventually had the FBI get involved and the agency taped a conversation between the two. She “terrorized me for almost five months of my life that I can never get back.”

Any one who’s crazy enough to stalk someone, doesn’t need a sensible reason to stalk. They’re apparently crazy in the first place.

She was probably an easy target… famous but not TOO famous… has a little bit of money, plus she is probably pretty easy to contact as far as the celebrity-food chain goes. Glad it’s over for her. That must have been extremely frustrating.

Rodney I know this comment doesn’t relate to Diana but any info forthcoming about Fantasia’s Friday night concert or upcoming album? I heard she gave an excellent show on Friday for V-103.

Oh, yeah, “POLICE” the Internet. Think of the children! Doesn’t take much to generate a spasm from Nazi Chicken Little.
It’s a slow day for news, Jedediah, when some grade-z celeb is crying about losing five months of her life.

The news value was in a Woman was stalking a Woman; God knows women have been stalked by men for a long time…and that restraining orders are next to useless. see FamilyLawCourts.com/domestic.html to scare yourself.
Check out the “bad cop” section too. Talk about Stalking.

you are all just jealous that no one knows who you are…Diana is much more famous than any of you, and has more money. You are all just a bunch of whiners that NO ONE ELSE cares about.

Why Diana Degarmo? I mean why not Paris Hilton who is dumb as dirt, but rich as hell. I could see someone extorting money out of Paris Air-Head Hilton, even Britney Spears who I know got loot(dont ask me why because the loot she got sure was not for her voice or talent but she is wealthy so I could see someone stalking her or Paris even Oprah. I like Diana D though.:-) she seems so down to earth.

Diana was targeted due to being on American Idol, due to this sick person becoming obsessed with her, and due to the fact that until this happened Diana had been very open and accessible via her MySpace and email to fans. Her kindness worked against her and made her an easy target. It’s sad to see people would rather make a joke of “Why DeGarmo?” as if your spot on the celebrity food chain has anything to do with whether you get targeted by an obsessed psycho.

I read the whole article (and there is another one online about the same issue) and I don’t think this is over. The stalker told police she knew Diana wanted her to leave her alone but she didn’t think what she was doing was “anything” to worry about. Sounds like she’s still sick and obsessed and totally unconcerned about the effect she has on Diana’s life.

It had to be a total Host, Diana can not sing, but she can “SCREAM” and holla , who wants to stalk her? for what? she is very inmature, I can’t stand to hear her talk, lease to say sing. Maybe some one wanted to hear her scream.

This clearly wasn’t about money. It was about causing as much emotional distress as possible to the victim. I hope this girl leaves Diana alone from now on.

Apparently the FBI thought it was a big deal. It’s too bad people can’t see her as a person rather than focus on “why would someone stalk Diana?” Stalking can happen to anyone and it’s extremely disturbing no matter who you are.

Thank You Rodney for reporting on this issue, keeping us up to date on Diana. Its a sad testimony when you read an article on someone and her family and friends being harrassed over a period of months and you get bashers. Whats that all about? Tara, I agree with you, its uncertan whether this is over for the DeGarmo’s since that person was so driven to harrass hopefully the concern of a sentence will motivate her to stop. I feel sorry for anyone who has had to endure internet and other stalking by a man or a woman and hope the DeGarmos can have some peace with this now. Diana is actually a rather accomplished and well respected Broadway actress who is carving out a great career for herself and who is so gracious and kind to all her fans. She does not deserve this.

DeGarmo has a fan? I suppose stranger things have happened. R Tucker, Chapter 11 Books are having a sale today; I just checked online and The Idiots Guide to Better Grammar is on sale. If you hurry they will give the book to you. All you need to do is bring your post printed here with you and the store will donate.

This person clearly was not a fan and probably belongs in a psych ward somewhere before she turns her attention to someone in closer proximity to her and does permanent damage. Diana being based in NYC while this person is in Australia might have been the only thing that prevented a tragedy ala Rebecca Shaeffer’s (a tv actress) stalking and murder years ago

i’m just appalled by some of these comments. Regardless of whether or not you like Diana or see her as successful, its horrible that this has happened. And for some of you to not feel compassion for her horrible situation makes me wonder if you’ve got as much sanity as the stalker herself.

So why are we trying to understand why a lunatic would do anything? Jennifer hit it on the head - she is a nutcase and you never know what they might do - be it Paris, Nicole, Brittany, Diana or your next door neighbor targeted, give-up on trying to figure out why or who. Their brains are not fully wired!

I had never heard the name Diana DeGarmo, so I searched for information about her. ..turns out, she’s a young singer on some television show. I’m glad the perpetrator has plead guilty and hope this stops the harrassment of the young singer.

Diana DeGarmo has a very long resume for one so young and is a very talented young woman. That is not the issue here. She was stalked, harassed, blackmailed…and YES, it disrupted her life. I care because it could happen to ANY of us. You never know what is lurking behind a web page or if a key-logger has been slipped in especially if you use AIM, Aol or MySpace. Any time we make a purchase or have a chat online, it’s a roll of the dice. Diana was brave to go public.

I hope Dianna DeGarmo never reads this! I cannot believe some of the responses posted on here. I cannot believe that people can be so rude, disrespectful and mean spirited! She is a very young woman who is simply working hard to make her dream a reality. I hope no one ever treats you or your teenage child in this way. Show a little compassion for this young woman!

No, because Diana lives in New York City now. Besides which, this is not someone you’d want to have access to Diana or anyone she’s obsessed with. It could have been a tragedy if Diana had been more accessible to her.

Unfortunately, Courtney, some people behave differently behind their computers than they would in real life. Hearing a story about stalking and harassment yet focusing only on whether or not you liked the person on AI is probably a good sign it’s time to get out from behind the computer and reclaim your humanity. I’m sure for some here they’d have an even better time if Diana had been harmed. I can just picture it now “Ha ha, who would bother hurting Diana DeGarmo? She’s not on the A List. Ha ha she’s dead, never liked her on AI anyway.” Congrats to some of you for managing to be just as sick as the chick in Australia.

A crime has been committed therefore by definition there’s a perp and a victim. Irrespective of one’s talent, or lack thereof, it would really suck to be the victim. What about the friends and family of the “nutcase”? Can’t be much fun for them either, guess there are more victims!

I know it’s selfish, but I am a Diana fan and my name is Tanya…but I live in Snellville, Ga. NOT Australia….I hate it that Diana has had to go through all of htat just because she works toward a goal. I hear she is a hard worker and does charity on her days off. I wish all celebrities would give as much as Daina does.

aussie, you are right. The perpetrator’s family has to be at the least, embarassed. I read that she used her school and home computers. That had to cause problems for everyone who used those computers. You are right. The ‘nutcase’ did not only harm Diana DeGarmo. Can you imagine the money and time it took to even track her down? She should definitely not get a slap on the hand for this. The ‘victims’ deserve compensation.

I hope Diana does file a civil suit, especially if the stalker chick gets away without a jail sentence. I doubt she has any money, and Diana doesn’t need it anyway, but there’s no reason she shouldn’t have some of the stress and anxiety she’s placed DeGarmo under returned tenfold.

Is Diana really a respected broadway actress? I do agree this is a really bad thing that happened to her. At any age it is a horrible thing to go through but at 19 i am sure she took this really hard. She is a very attractive young woman now and i wish her the best, emotionally and career wise.

Yes, Diane, she is a respected actress on Broadway now. She’s been playing Penny in the musical “Hairspray” for most of 2006. She also headlined the national touring production of “Brooklyn,” and played Maria in a California production of West Side Story in 2005. She’s been very warmly received in the theatre community and is definitely one of the former idols who truly has a good career going.

Let me ask some of you a question. How would you feel if your computer was hacked and your personal information was stolen and used to solicit sex and drugs? How would you feel to get phone calls at all times of the day and night and then listen to someone demanding money to stop harassing you? Then to add insult to injury read disparaging remarks from imbeciles who do not have a compassionate bone in their body. Remember it can happen to you at any time and any place. I’m sure the 800,000 UCLA current and former students, faculty and staff, who had their personal information stolen, could find out how Diana felt.
Diane, just go to Broadwayworld.com and you will find out how much Diana DeGarmo is respect as a Broadway actress and singer.

Why Diana De Garmo, simply because she was on TV, and now on Broadway, a very lovely lady. It doesn’t matter that after the show she went out of the spot light. Alot of people who are on Reality shows simply do that. I mean look at Bo Bice, he was 2nd runner up, and I haven’t heard from him. Idenity theft, and Email harrassing can happen to anyone. Anyone that has money or simply no money at all. I mean look at the movie with Kimberly Paisley, “the Michelle Brown story” she simply went in for some sort of loan, and look at what happend to her. She didn’t have money, just good credit. Anyone can be an easy target for Idenity theft or email harrassment, or even your computer being hacked into. When this girl was told to leave Diana alone for sometime, even after Diana and her mother tried everything that they could, Tanya still wouldn’t leave them alone, and would still continue to be Diana on Numerous occasions. I just hope that in May when she has to go back to Court, Tanya gets put in jail and has no access to any computer what so ever.
