12/5: Carrie wins five Billboard Music Awards

The Billboard Music Awards, which I didn’t watch, aired Monday night on Fox and Carrie Underwood won the following:
Album of the Year, “Some Hearts”
Country Album of the Year, “Some Hearts”
Female Billboard 200 Album Artist of the Year
Female Country Artist of the Year
New Country Artist of the Year
Not a bad take! This was based on SoundScan sales, not a vote of any sort.

12/4: Taylor on Leno

I heard Taylor’s first single “Runaround” from his new CD coming out Dec. 12 on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which aired Friday. Here’s the clip on gofish.
Will it be a big top 40 hit? Probably not but I dare them to play it. Unlike Bo’s first single, this one definitely feels like a Taylor song. He opens and closes with his harmonica. The tune’s brassy, bright and bluesy. I like it. Very old school, like “Roll With It” by Steve Winwood. Color me impressed. Sure beats “Do I Make You Proud?” And is his hair shorter than we’ve seen it in awhile or is it just me?
And if anybody cares, Kat McPhee won “Big It Girl” on the “Big in ‘06” VH1 awards show Sunday night.
