9/29: Upcoming Idol guests judges
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
They had guest judges, if memory serves me correct, for season 3 (most notably, Quentin Tarantino) during the show itself and during auditions for idol 4 (Gene Simmons, Kenny Loggins, LL Cool J and Brandy come to mind) but dropped them for season 5. This year, the guest judges are back for auditions. Olivia Newton John worked Los Angeles, Carole Bayer Sager in New York and Jewel in Minneapolis. Here’s the AP story.
Do you like guest judges in any capacity? I personally enjoy them during the auditions for a change of pace but except for Quentin, they don’t add much during the regular season. Most are way too nice to the contestants to add much once the finals arrive.

Hi Rodney! I liked the idea of guest judges. It broke up the monotomy of Simon, Paula and Randy whom we have come to know verbatim before the judging comments even begin. The only problem with guest judges is exactly as some say. They are too nice. They need to be real and criticize when due. The sappy, happy, smiley faces have to go. Guest judges need to treat the AI contestants exactly as they would treat anyone auditioning for a slot as a back-up singer in their own tour!

vin?! Vinny Vin? Is that you? Where the heck have you been? You should stop by more often to look in on us. You know we don’t know how to act without proper supervision.
I like the idea of guest judges. I have certainly grown tired of the usual, “Dawg, that was hot!â€? “Oh, that was…you were… I love you. You touched my heart.â€? And “That was absolutely dreadful.â€? They need to add something to the show to spice it up a bit. I have an idea, but dare not disclose it in this open forum.

I thought Gene Simmons was one of the better guest judges, good idea, BUT it really depends on WHO they get!!!!
Rode to AL yesterday, with my husband on his business, and on the way back out of AL there was a billboard with Pictures of Reuben, Bo and Taylor, with regard to them ALL being FROM Alabama and the TOP of AI………… it was pretty cool. Just an FYI, everyone have a great weekend!! - AM

Happy Friday!!! I like having the guest judges. Like it’s been said, it changes up the dynamics a bit and gets away from the same monontony you come to expect with Randy, Paula, and Simon. I do hope they keep the guests to those with some musical knowledge and experience so that it’s not someone just like us giving their opinion.

I am not used to the new AM giving nice comments!!!
Anyway, I like it better when the artist spends time with the kids to help with the songs as opposed to having a guest judge sitting with the other three (too nice). But with the exception of Barry Manilow and Stevie Wonder, I didn’t like the rest of the artists they chose to do songs for. I don’t like the guest judges during auditions either. JMO!!

Hi Jexy!! Yes! It’s Vinny Vin!!! I did kind of crawl into a hole over the summer! LOL!! Hope everyone is groovin just fine in life!
Hi AM! Le Master Chef is at it again. Don’t ask me to make anything homemade that contains flour! Can you say “brick”? :-)
Back to subject…AI needs to mix things up a bit this year because the format is getting a bit stale. That’s why I like the guest judges idea.

Shay…was it LL Cool J who was a guest judge during the auditions a few years back? Those are the kinds of judges to bring in. Just please, no old crooners. Bor-ing.

Yes, I think it was LL Cool J Vin. Now if they had him sitting up there with no shirt on, then that would be a good audition show. Forget the singers!
AM, pleassssse stop mentioning food. I am trying to “lose” weight and you are making me want to go eat, eat, eat!!!
