9/27: Fantasia’s dad sues her

Fantasia’s dad Joseph Barrino has filed a $10 million libel lawsuit against her for her portrayal of him in her book “Fantasia: Life is Not a Fairytale”.

An excerpt:

Joe Barrino, a truck driver and a musician himself, is claiming that, although his daughter is listed as the book’s author, it was the singer’s grandmother, pastor Addie Collins, who actually penned the story. The details that granny supposedly fudged include a description of Joe Barrino as being hostile to the music industry, a part where he asks his daughter for money, and the suggestion that his children’s music careers were more important to him than their education.

No direct response yet from th Fantasia camp.

Everyone wants a piece of the fame, he should be ashamed of himself for that. I guess he will be suing Dwayne Wayne too.

This is a load of crap. If your daughter remembered you as being a hostile and somewhat aggressive person growing up, then deal with it. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you. And to sue her for $10 million seeking what, compensation for your emotional distreess, is just straight bull. Fantasia, the movie and book did not portray him as a bad person, but stated the facts. If you cheated on your wife then you cheated on your wife. If you were poor then you were poor. If you beat the mom, then that’s what you did. Point blank!!! Don’t act now like the things didn’t happen just because you may or may not have changed your life around 15 years later.

Good Morning.

I am SO not surprised. I’m sure the publishers had the good sense to get all the rights and permissions they needed to publish this story. It seems that Mr. Barrino is just trying to capitalize on his daughter’s success. He ought to be ashamed of himself.

Joe Barrino … and the suggestion that his children’s music careers were more important to him than their education. Um…duh. That part is pretty obvious, Joe.

Good Morning shay and Jex. Oh, Jex, congrats on your marriage (or soon to be)… lol. I am happy you found a guy that can appriciate a good woman…

Hey Shaun and Sexy Jexy!!! Fantasia’s dad is tryin’ to get straight paid. If nothing else, the movie showed that he was the one who pushed her to even try out for idol and go back to the auditions after they sent her home. He should be happy that they didn’t cut that part from the movie (a*******hole). And she always have good things to say about him as a person, even if he did dog the mother.

Thank you so much, Shaun. And while I am indeed the bombdiggity, I must admit he seems to be in a class almost unheard of these days. Kinda like you. ;-)

And another thing, what was the problem with the way the father was portrayed in the book? Was he really that bad? The movie just made him seem funny, determined and caring (in his own way), but I guess they had to tone it down a little.

From what I read he’s not suing her, just the publishing company.

You know how the old saying goes>>>>>> a hit dog will holla it looks like Fantasia’s Dad is hollering he needs to get some where and sit down! I’m sure he’s upset cause the real truth is out about him just *shuuddd up already!! Have a great day guys!!

By shay

September 27, 2006 9:46 AM | Link to this

Jex, the movie cut a lot.

By shay

September 27, 2006 9:52 AM | Link to this

Not sure if the book and movie are correlated, but they pretty much portrayed him in the same light. So the Publishing Company and the writer are both wrong. I don’t think so. Fantasia played herself in the movie. Don’t you think if they had portrayed him in the wrong light, she would have stood up and said something. Obviously, that’s how she saw him growing up and there is nothing wrong with that. Nobody wants their mistakes broadcasted in the public eye. What man wants the world to know that he gave his wife a black eye every other week. Come on!! So there is no need to sue the publishing company if its true.

Why would any parent sue their children? That’s Just like taking bread out of your own childs mouth. I know the truth hurts sometimes.Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening.

I guess they would have to cut a lot out for the movie, but like QC alluded to, “none proclaim innocence as much as the guilty”.

Poor thing. He must be a sad soul to do something like this. I can’t imagine that Tasia didn’t break him off a lil’ sumthin’-sumthin’ after she got her check.

By shay

September 27, 2006 10:01 AM | Link to this

If I am not mistaken, in the book, she takes care of him financially even though the parents aren’t together.

By mystique

September 27, 2006 10:18 AM | Link to this

Hi Shay, Jexy and Shaun! Methinks Tasia’s daddy seems to be a little jealous of his daughters fame and that he hasn’t been directly included in it?!?

Ain’t that always how it goes, kid gets famous, parent thinks that they are entitled to a piece, so…parent comes up with some BS reason to sue.

I always thought TO was weird and struggling with his sexuality. He says he is depressed. He hasn’t been famous long enough to be tired already. How old is TO??

oh, I thought he was younger. Oh well, I hope he is doing better Suicide is serious and means something is definitely wrong.

TO is not Fantasia people!:-)

BTW-My house is under contract!!!!

By Jex

September 27, 2006 11:24 AM | Link to this

I think it was just a stunt. He got so much negative press last year, he wants people to feel sorry for him. If he really wanted to kill himself, he could have. I’m glad he didn’t, but he could have. He took two pills AFTER the police got there. That sure is a sad way to get attention. Maybe he should read Tasia’s book and realize he doesn’t have it so bad. He needs Jesus.

By shay

September 27, 2006 11:24 AM | Link to this

But Carla, TO tried to overdose on drugs and Fantasia look like she on drugs some times so technically, we are still on topic!!!

And good to hear that your house is under contract!! Congrats! Where are you moving to?

By Jex

September 27, 2006 11:27 AM | Link to this

Your house isn’t Fantasia either, Carla. But congratulations!

LOL shay!!

By shay

September 27, 2006 11:29 AM | Link to this

Jex, I always have believed an attempt at suicide is an attention getter. If you really want to jump off of that bridge, then you can! If you want to take 50 pills and die, then take then while everyone is asleep so that no one can stop you. But when you attempt suicide with the intentions of someone stopping you, then its an attention getter. A sad attention getter, but definitely an attention getter. JMO!!

TO is worse off than he was when playing in Phili, less money and a less chance to get to the big dance. It goes to show you that most time your situation can be worse than you think. Sometime you jump out of the pot into the fire…

Just Kidding! Congratulations!

Hi Shan. Yep, TO is just crying for some sympathy. And sorry hon, making 25 million a year to throw a football around. You ain’t getting no sympathy from me!

I said btw. I was just keeping with the fact that you all were off topic. Anyway thanks. I’m moving closer to work.

I sure hope that this lawsuit doesn’t split up her family. It’s said that something (money) that can bring you up can also tear you down.

Shaun, he doesn’t eat sweets, which is good for me. That way I can’t use it as an excuse. Everybody else liked it. I made it for a labor day cookout. Kind of like the one in Fantasia’s movie, that’s based on her book, which her father is suing the publishing company for.

Sent me pictures and all! I am still crying over that one. Perhaps my goodies weren’t good enough to keep him out of her goodies. Oh well, I was keepin’ Larenz Tate on the side just in case Jamie fell through. Us pimps have it like that.
