9/26: Clay Aiken comes in No. 2

Clay aiken cd.jpg

Good news and bad news for Clay Aiken.

His second studio release (non Christmas) “A Thousand Different Ways” sold about 200,000 copies, a pretty decent showing considering it’s mostly covers and is getting almost zippo radio airplay. Plus, he’s been largely absent from the scene save for the tabs and the “Idol” finale appearance.

Bad news: That’s about 1/3 of the first week sales of “Measure of a Man” during the peak of Claymania in late 2003. And Justin Timberlake’s latest CD in its second week beat Clay soundly with about 240,000 in sales, according to hitsdailydouble.

Clay is still one of my favorites to-date. Rodney, I saw Clay on one of the morning shows last week. I am disappointed that he chose to remake covers rather than sing some original music. But according to Clay, it was Clive Davis’ brain child to do this kind of album, stating that today’s love songs are not memorable or very good. I disagree with Clive’s decision. People want to hear “new” music, not retreads. No wonder the lukewarm sales, but Clay can still sing!!!
