9/18: Celebrity Duets, Amazing Race thoughts

I’ve decided “Celebrity Duets” isn’t worth providing a blow-by-blow account. It’s simply too inconsequential and nobody cares. By the way, Carly Patterson was (finally) eliminated! She dueted with Jesse McCartney. She acted like a 13 year old girl, not the 18 year old she is over that guy. Yeesh. Cheech Marin somehow survived. (He was in the bottom three but not bottom two). Hal Sparks was almost eliminated. He actually had a good time dueting with Dennis DeYoung of Styx, doing a fun “Come Sail Away” Thursday, then doing a jokey “Mr. Roboto” Friday. This show will not be renewed. Ratings simply have been bad and getting worse. Jai Rodriguez and Alfonso Ribeiro are still going to finish in the final two, unless something really bizarre happens.

I just want to give some props to “The Amazing Race,” or The Show That Keeps Beating “American Idol” in the Emmys. I’ve watched every single cycle through and through with the exception of the ill-begotten “Family Edition” last year. Sunday night’s 90-minute show was, as usual, a breathtakingly fun trip, this time to China. And the casting is impeccable. There’s the first Islamic team in the show’s history (too bad they were eliminated first). And the gal with the missing leg using a prosthetic and her boyfriend who happens to make those legs. There’s the requisite gay couple, an interesting father-daughter team where the daughter is a lesbian (he looks so young, another team asks if they are dating or married.). The coalmining couple is fascinating: the woman is tough as nails but you know they’ll be fireworks down the road. The spunky Alabama single moms are fun; there’s the white couple where the gal is beeyotchy. The cheerleaders, the models (who are recovering drug addicts) and the Miss America contestants for eye candy. There’s the Asian bros, both amazingly cut — just like the two young Asian guys on “Survivor.” (This has to be a good trend for us Asian dudes though they are making me feel pudgy in comparison!). The only missing element is the spunky “older” couple. And the final challenge (literally climbing the Great Wall of China) was a delightful way to end the show. Sad to see the happy Indian-American couple go but this has to be one of the most diverse, most interesting set of teams “Race” has ever had. It’ll be requisite watching for me on its new Sunday night time slot. I hope it doesn’t get slammed by “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

It does?? Thanks for the heads up. I’ve got to start planning out my new tv schedule. I haven’t watched Celebrity Duets since the first week. I just can’t get into it. I saw the very beginning of Amazing Race but then I had to turn to see the kickoff of the game. I’ve never really watched the show and with it competing with Sunday night football and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I probably never will.

Good Morning Everyone! The only thing I have to say about celebrity duets is I hope that it is soon put out of its misery

Amazing Race was amazing last night (if you’re a fan and, of course I am)! Rodney, I LOVE that this group is SO much more diverse than any other reality show has ever been. It makes you realize how diverse this country really is and not every one is the WASPy, rail thin, blond haired blue eyed super model wanna be from Los Angeles – even though they do exist.

Can’t wait for ANTM. As usual, they are promising surprises that will undoubtedly bring in even more viewers.

shay, why didn’t you tell me you got kicked off Flavor of Love?

Once the fall season starts up for UPN and ANTM, I will probably be tied down as far as t.v. Then when Idol starts, I definitely will not have time to tune in to any new shows.

I got an advance look at ANTM’s first two hour episode. It’s the same ol same ol but still a lot of fun. No “plus sized” models this time around.

Jex, girl that ho was pushing on me so I tried to push her off the balcony, but the rule on the show is there is no physical contact between the contestants so they gave me the boot. But I will be alright.

No Plus size models, huh? That was only a matter of time. A big girl was never gonna win anyway.

Toccara was the closest they were going to come to a plus sized model winning, and that didn’t happen so it will never happen!! Pencil thin is what’s in, in the fashion industry. Point blank!

shay, not only in the fashion industry, but the entire entertainment industry as well. Remember the groups Xscape, Brownstone and even TLC? Those were all regular, normal sized girls. Now these little ‘mini-divas’ are all rail thin. They even made Beyonce lose weight. It’s ridiculous.

Good Morning! Its about time Carly got the boot, she outstayed her welcome! I have never been an amazing race fan, so I don’t have any comment there. As far as ANTM, that is one show I have never watched and never will. Never been into watching a bunch rail thin women whine and complain. Maybe if they get some normal sized people on that show I might think about it.

Hey mystique! Girl, who knows what “normal-size is any more. For some reason, the masses seem to believe that thinner is better. No, not even thin, but bone thin. Did you see the pictures of Nicole Richey in a bikini on the beach? They were trying to say she was stressed out, but I think she starved and pilled her self to get to that point because that’s the image that’s betrayed as beautiful. Only God knows why.

I’m not saying that women should be as big as Ruben Studdard (note the AI reference), but why can’t there be a happy medium? I remember when they were actually calling Kelly Clarkston fat (second AI reference). Go figure.

stiffy material!

Jex, its pretty bad. The model on Celebrity Fit Club is 130 pounds and looks great and is on a show with the word “Fat” in it. She was 150 pounds when she started, like that’s fat! She was talking like she was obese.

I know Jex, it is hard to say what normal is. Although verging on the point of sickness thin seems to be in, I don’t think that it is normal! A girl who has got some meat on her bones and doesn’t appear to be a twig you could snap in two. Now that seems to be verging more on normal.

I just feel like shows such as ANTM make people see that the whole skin and bones model thing is the only way to be. And that is so not true!

Y’all know that the whole women and weight issue really lights my fire.

shay, at least I can see her point. Being a woman in the entertainment industry (eventhough I’m not sure what she does), you have to be rail thin to even get looked at. So she’s just doing what she has to do to go along with the plan. But she looks fine to me now, and she wasn’t a fat @$$ to begin with.

And WTF is Isaac doing there? All he had to do was a month of sit up and he would have been fine.

They would probably call Dr. Phil on me if they ever got a gander at me, the twins and Mount Vesuvius behind me.

Ok, I thought Amazing Race was gonna lose people after the whole family fiasco - but here they are with another wonderful season. Glad to see the diverse teams. I do wish they would quit have couples - just one season with no couples, no people calling each other BABE over and over again!!!! Sorry to see the Muslim fellas out first, I was hoping that we could learn more about them. Also sorry to see the Indian couple gone as well, it seems our diversity is dwindling. The Kentucky couple is gonna get on my nerves - I just know it. I hope the father daughter team stays in for the long haul, as those type of partnerships don’t seem to last long in this game - so they are who I am rooting for right now. Hard to pick that one team that stands out after just one episode.
