8/28: Celebrity Duets

I’m going to write about Celebrity Duets since it is a Simon show and will have some echoes of “Idol.” Is that cool with everybody who is still reading this offseason? It should be entertaining in a “Dancing With the Stars” way…

The show, which will air Thursdays and Fridays, debuts in a special two-hour intro hour Tuesday night 8/29. It will feature eight nonsinging celebs such as Lea Thompson (“Caroline in the City”) Lucy Lawless (“Xena: Warrior Princess”), Chris Jericho (WWE wrestler) and Cheech Marin (“Up in Smoke,” “Nash Bridges”). They will sing songs in different genres with real singers such as Brian McKnight, Clint Black, Kenny Loggins, Patti LaBelle, Belinda Carlisle, Randy Travis and Chaka Khan.

The judges: producer David Foster, Marie Osmond and (get this!) Little Richard. America will vote after the first episode.

Rodney, I say GO for it!!!! Beats a LOT of the stuff that ends up on here, and besides, it is Your Blog!!!! I know, I know, I enjoy jumping in and sounding off, too bad there are always the ones that get on the Nasty Defensive when they don’t agree, but I think the Duets show will be interesting to say the least. Peace and Love AM

Rodney, I think it is a good idea. This will give us something to discuss weekly and also keep the ones who want us to stay on topic out of our hair. When does the show air? I saw a preview of it Friday. What nights will it be airing and when does it start? I can’t wait to se Alfonzo Roberto. He is a hoot!!!

Yeah I saw that greg. I didn’t get to see the race. I’m pumped for California though. I hope the kids from Columbus win tonight. A team from GA hasn’t won since the 80’s right?

By Jex

Good Morning Everyone! I’ve seen snippets of the show, but I’m not sure what the concept is. Are they having TV stars do songs with recording artists or are TV stars doing songs with other TV stars? I heard a couple of them sing and they actually sounded pretty good. Alfonso Riberto has been singing since Silver Spoons, so I know he’s good. It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone…

Yeah it was a lot of fun. We came in second place. I don’t know if I can get involved in one more reality show. I told myself I won’t watch it but it all depends on what else is on.

American Idol is by far the most moronic pathetic execrable garbage that TV has inflicted on us in years.

The mindless pap that it cynically and systematically passes off as music is at best mental torture. How anyone can call cretinous rehashed showtunes and rehashed bland vile pop music ‘music’ is beyond me. Musical taste is a superb, unerring guide as to the ‘depth’ and ‘cultural depth’ of the individual.

Amercian Idol is little more than the ultimate in contrived, gossipy drivel dressed up for empty headed idiots who clearly have little if anything substantive in their lives. It is the perfect show for obsessive types - folks who tend to live through the worthless showbizzy exploits of others. The manufacture of yet another raft of vacuous spoiled inane celebrities should be despised - not gleefully added to the daily gossip topics.

Most people are pretty shallow and stupid these days. Just look at the TV shows and movies that are ‘popular’.

Anyone who allows themselves to be so easily and blatantly manipulated by a few folks who are making millions off you - and millions like you deserves the tag sheeple.

I have noted on occasional visits the often fawning nature of the posts on here - the almost grovelling tone to ‘Simon’ and the rest of them - as if you know him personally. Feeding their egos like this is a crime against humanity. Y’all need to stop it NOW!!!

Will anyone have the guts to respond honestly to this and actually intelligently reflect on the points made? I somewhat doubt it - but whatever!!

I am entitled to my free speech - just as you are!!

Good luck with the rest of your lives.

Hey Wanda. My weekend was frustrating. My grass is growing out of control and my lawn mower is broken, my neighbor’s lawn more is broken and so is my dad’s. And I hate the thought of paying someone $50 just to cut it.

It’s o.k. time for the truth. Take two aspirin and then holla at us tomorrow once you’ve calmed down. I am impressed with your big words though. You go girl.

I love me some Simon Cowell. He is by far the most moronic pathetic execrable piece of garbage that TV has inflicted on me in years.

Good Morning! That is great, Rodney, thanks. I am interested to see celebrity duets. If nothing else it should at least be good for a laugh!

By Deirdre

August 28, 2006 11:17 AM | Link to this

time for the truth. I’m not sure it takes guts to respond to you. Actually, I agree with a lot of what you said. I am NOT a reality TV show fan…so why do I watch this mindless drivel, you ask?
Most of the kids on the show have some talent. Each week they have to overcome their nerves and their usually ‘one trick pony’ abilities and try to rise to the occasion. I find this to be both fascinating and uplifting. Even when they fail, at least they tried.

AS for the manipulation. Anyone with half a brain can see how they try to twist us into thinking what they want us to think and voting the way they want us to vote. I try hard to watch each performer as a singer, not any of the other hoopla they give us. I know, that a lot of people love the show BECAUSE of the manipulation. They blindly hate who the producers want them to hate and they love the underdog (that’s the ONLY thing that explains why Kevin made it as long as he did) That’s ok if that is what they want to do!

Of course they are making millions! That is what show business is all about! There isn’t a show on TV that isn’t making millions. If they don’t make money, they get cancelled! But those of us who like this show…or any show, for that matter….get something in return. American Idol is basically about the American dream! Some regular guy or gal can walk onto a stage and become a STAR! If only for the few minutes they appear. And many of us feel good about that. So sue us!

Impresive, T4T! I am sure there are lots of people that agree with you. But, I guess I am one of the shallow and stupid people you are talking about…because I love this mindless drivel :)

Hi Wanda, my weekend was wonderful, hope you had a good one too. Took a little roadtrip up to Memphis!

And personally, I would vote for The Jerry Springer show as the ” most moronic, pathetic, inexcrable garbage” that has ever been my displeasure to watch. I exercised my right as a thinking person the first time I saw it. I turned it off! I do not understand why it is still on the air. However, I do not go on any blog for Jerry Springer because….I don’t care! It would be a total waste of my time!

Jex - two words - artificial grass :-) I saw it on Flip That House!

mysti, did you go to Elvis’ house?

shay, I’m trying to come home. The deal was we would live here until this job played out, then move to Georgia. The way things are looking, the company won’t last past the end of the year. But they have been down before, so who knows. Keep your fingers crossed!

We didn’t do much this weekend. Got a haircut (I look cute) and went to an estate sale. Didn’t buy anything though, just poked around through old stuff.

Everyone wanting to see the Carlton dance again, raise your hand!

Hey greggy-poo! I’m just popping in and out because it looked like some foolishness was about to start in here and I didn’t feel like being bothered.

And besides, no body ever answered my question! How is the Celebrity Duet show going to work? Do they pair a regular celebrity with a recording artist or are there two regular celebrities singing together or what?

Geeeesh!

By mystique

August 28, 2006 3:04 PM | Link to this

Jex, I think they are going to pair the celebrity with the artist and then together they will work on songs. I imagine it will be american idol-esque, a performance night followed by the elimination night. Of course, I am not really sure!

By msteven

August 28, 2006 3:27 PM | Link to this

I bet Alphonso gives Tom(Jones) a run for his money on Its Not Unusual. probably because Tom will be cracking up and trying desparately not to laugh and keep a straight face. Then when Alphonso breaks out the Carlton dance..its ALL over. Tom on floor, Judges on Floor, audience on floor, dying laughing.

By Carla

August 28, 2006 3:28 PM | Link to this

Not really. But I went to see Idlewild and I loved it.

That would be hilarious msteven. But Tom would have to do the Carlton to make it complete.

Carla If Tom does the Carlton I hope they have paramedics standing by. I may not be able to contain myself and I know my shepherds will be dialing 911. saying “Send straight jacket please, daddy has flown permanently over the coo coo nest! He’s dancing with the TV A-GAIN!

By Jex

August 28, 2006 3:32 PM | Link to this

Do we have confirmation that Tom Jones will be paired with Carlton…I mean, Alfonso? OMG! My sides are aching at the thought of it.

Sounds like it could be a good show. That is, for us mindless, idiotic, drones that blog here. Oh well.

By Jex

Msteven, have your puppies call the paramedics for me too. I’m still recovering from my Taylor dancing. So I’d probably throw my back out doing the ‘Carlton Dance’.

Hey I wanna see who is going to be brave enough to sing with Patti. I know that she had a sing off with Eddie Levert(Ojays Lead singer) and his son Gerald. It was a draw. One could clearly see Egos were shining through. Eddie Levert battled Patti right back. it was a draw. both are legendary power houses. and yes Patti met her Male Match!. I remember Cyndi Lauper giving Patti a run for her money doing her song Lady Marmamle.(I cant spell that lol whatever yall know what song I mean)anyway Patti left Cyndi Nowhwere Cyndi battled her back! it was Great!

Elton John tells Rolling Stone magazine that he wants to record a hip-hop album with Grammy-winning producer Dr. Dre. “I want to work with Pharrell, Timbaland, Snoop, Kanye, Eminem and just see what happens,” John says in the Sept. 7 issue. “It may be a disaster, it could be fantastic, but you don’t know until you try.” The 59-year-old says he is a fan of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity” and Tupac Shakur’s “California Love.” I want to bring my songs and melodies to hip-hop beats,” John says. “I love these beats, but I have no idea how to get them.”

This sounds crazy, but it may actually work.

But he is a music genius. I could see him making hits with anybody.
