8/28: Emmys snub Idol — again

For the fourth straight year, “Amazing Race” won best reality show competition, beating out “American Idol,” along with “Project Runway,” “Survivor” and “Danncing with the Stars.”

Did anyone notice that Simon Cowell got nicely booed when introduced before he did his homage to Dick Clark. It was odd to see him wearing glasses, too.

The booing was cute….shows that a lot of the audience watches Idol. He looked really nervous to me. But he did a good job!

I did notice the booing. It was funny that he would get booed there. I loved the whole Dick Clark piece. It was good to see him. How could Amazing Race beat both Idol and Survivor?

I didn’t notice the booing but I was half watching anyway. I liked the Dick Clark piece too. He is getting old!

Carla, if I have to hear this Cassie song one more time, I am going to lose my mind. Oh, and I watched “Bring it On 2” with Solange Knowles starring in it. That girl definitely did not get her looks from her mom or sister. Papa Knowles need to take a paternity test.

Good morning everyone… Does anyone know if Being Bobby Brown is coming back? That is my favorite reality show. I love Run’s House too.

Shaun, I think it is coming back this fall but Whitney is not supposed to be on it. I watch it just to see her.

Shaun, I listen to V-103 only because of Wanda and Ryan Cameron. I am not a big Frank Ski fan. Too phony. I don’t like Tom Joyner either. They are too old school for me. I do like Steve Harvey and Jackie though. Sometimes I can tolerate Michael Basden in the afternoons but all of his topics are drama related so I only tune in when I can relate to the topic, which ain’t that often.

Shay, my wife loves Michael Baisden, i dont. I enjoy his books though. Ryan is the man, I have followed him since 94. I use to see him at the hawks games (when i had season tix) with his family. No steve harvey for me, I didnt know he wore a wig either…..

Is Amazing Race really that good a show? I’ve never seen it, but for it to have won four years in a row I guess it must be good.

Shay, yes, i didnt know it. that is why his hair is always perfect.

By shay

Wow! I never knew he wore a wig.

Carla, I have never seen it either. Obviously, it is very good to beat out idol.

Amazing Race is a good show. It’s fast paced and provides views of venues across the world you might not otherwise see. And the bickering among the teams can be delightful if you’re into that. But while the spring edition was rock solid (and I presume those were the episodes that CBS sent to the Academy for votes), the fall “family edition” was an unmitigated bore. If there was a year for “Idol” to win, it should have been this year. Then again, “Idol” can laugh all the way to the bank with triple the ratings and blogs like this! :)

By shay

August 29, 2006 9:37 AM | Link to this

It is still shocking though that they beat out Idol. Oh well. My biggest scare of the night was Simon with his shirt open. Eeewww!! The chest hair almost grossed me out. Whenever I see old people with their shirts open, I can’t eat for two days.

Good Morning! Ratings and popularity wise AI is a huge winner, and that is where it counts. This show will go on forever whether it ever wins an emmy or not. It is a ratings giant!

Hi Shay! I didn’t even know the emmys were on this weekend or I would have tried to catch it, Simon’s reaction to the booing would have been worth it. And I love to tune in to see what everyone is wearing, too :)

By Carla

August 29, 2006 10:10 AM | Link to this

Simon didn’t seem phased by it. He just went on with what he was saying. I don’t remember even seeing his facial expression change.

I can tell you what everybody had on. $10k dresses on size 0 and size 2 bodies. You didn’t miss a thing!

Good Morning Everyone! I LOVE Amazing Race! I didn’t really watch the Emmys. I just wanted to see what everyone had on. The blond girl from Grey’s Anatomy was gorgeous! And the chick from My Name is Earl looked great. There are just too many award shows lately. Every time you turn around, there’s another one. And another one.

By Wanda

August 29, 2006 10:20 AM | Link to this

Morning folks! I was happy to see Simon wearing something other than a tight black tee shirt. He looked nice, chest hair and all laughs at shay.

Hey, I did 40 crunches yesterday, LOL! I’ll never make 500 like SOME people around here :-D

By shay

August 29, 2006 10:24 AM | Link to this

Wanda, 40 is good. And yes, SOME people on here can do 500-1000 a day. I was laughing at my cousin yesterday. She told me she do 7 crunches at night because she is trying to tighten her stomach by next year since she had a baby.

Tyra’s dress cost something like 50k!

By Carla

August 29, 2006 10:28 AM | Link to this

I didn’t think it was that cute. But Cojo picked her as one of the best dressed. He picked Debra Messing as number 1 and I agree. Her dress was beautiful.

By shay

August 29, 2006 10:30 AM | Link to this

LOL at Carla. Yes, we are hatin’

Wanda, that dress cost that much? Did anyone like Paula’s dress because I didn’t and was she toasted as usual.

By Jex

August 29, 2006 10:31 AM | Link to this

Debra’s dress was similar to the one I wore to my prom, white with layers, but mine was T-length.

Charlie’s Angels looked good from a distance, but close up, they were a little scary.

By Jex

August 29, 2006 10:34 AM | Link to this

Paula’s dress looked like my grandmother’s couch.

By shay

Jex, it was so ugly. All those colors had my head hurting. Her makeup was cute, but her dress was eeeewww!

By Carla

Jex, LOL!!!

By mystique

August 29, 2006 10:45 AM | Link to this

Ok, I just looked at the picks. Katherine Heigl looked great! I remember her as the little girl in “My father the Hero”. Shes all grown up now! And how about Paula raiding my closet from 1986? Lord, she was a mess. And yes, she looked toasted as ever.

Wanda, 40 crunches is good. I haven’t done my crunches in about 2 weeks now, but I usually try to do a hundred. Those suckers hurt! 7 crunches a day? Shay, tell her that her stomach should be nice and tight by about 2009 that way.

And Wanda, I find Simon oddly attractive, too :)

50K on a dress? Anyone, even a celebrity, that spends that much on a dress should be fined another 100K on top of that for being so stupid!

By Wanda

August 29, 2006 10:49 AM | Link to this

My physical therapist made me do ‘em. But I would like to keep it up and increase that number. Yeah, 7 isn’t going to do much, but it’s a start.

The worst dressed was Candace Bergan. She looked like heck.

By shay

August 29, 2006 10:56 AM | Link to this

I don’t know if they buy these dresses or if the designer let them wear it to get their designer names known. I have always wondered who buys the clothes that you see on runways. The peacock orange dresses or the red sequined dress with the train that is 20 feet long. Who buys this stuff? I have never seen a celebrity or ordinary person walk around with those God awful dresses. And yes, most of them look pretty bad. JMO!! I may as well design clothes because it look like they just threw some material together and put in on the models and said walk… and everybody is taking pictures like that mess look good. Give me a break!

Why do they bother to rate how the men look? A tux is a tux, and a suit is a suit. Unless they are wearing something outrageous, I can’t tell the difference.

Oh my, I’m watching The View (it’s a rerun). Gail King is on and is wearing a dress two sizes too small, hugging every roll and lump. And she is sitting beside Kelly Rowland with that little tiny waist :-)

By mystique

August 29, 2006 11:29 AM | Link to this

Eva always looks gorgeous! A few years ago that coral colored dress. So pretty! It kills me when you read stories about her, says she eats like a trucker and doesn’t exercise. And still looks like that? Heck, if I didn’t exercise and ate like a trucker I would look like, well, a trucker!

And yes, a tux is a tux. Men always pretty much look the same. About the only thing you can do to mix up a tux is throw in a regular tie rather than a bowtie (which looks better anyway IMO)

Greg, I know. Those women just won’t go away, and they are so annoying!

that’s funny Wanda.

By Wanda

The only man who ever looks somewhat different is Will Smith. He somehow finds a way to make a plain tux look updated and stylish.

Know who else claims to never diet or exercise? Salma Hayek! That’s who I want to be in my next life!

By Jex

August 29, 2006 11:49 AM | Link to this

When I was an extra in the movie Fled I saw Selma Hayek up close and personal. She is even more beautiful in person than she is on the screen. It’s ridiculous. I so hate her and her kind.

Yeah, they all claim to never diet or exercise, saying they just have high metabolisms! Sure, I buy that. I bet they are working their butts off in the gym as we speak.

Wow, Jex, that is really cool. I almost forgot about your celebrity status :) I have fled at home, love that movie, what an awesome experience to be an extra in it!

Anyone going to watch American Idol Rewind (Season 1)?

By Jex

August 29, 2006 12:21 PM | Link to this

eeww, Wanda No! I don’t think I could stand to see Justin Linguini with his crazy hair and cheesy smile again. Who else was on that season?

By mystique

August 29, 2006 1:38 PM | Link to this

Ooooh, yeah, Wanda. When and where does that come on? I can’t remember much about the first season and I would love to see it again.

Jex, all I can remember is Niki McKibbon (girl with the pink hair) and EJ or AJ or RJ, something like that. I don’t really care for seeing Linguini again, he was so irritating.

By shay

The only person(s) I remember from season 1 is Kelly and Justin. I didn’t watch the first season so I don’t know anybody else. I started watching after Tamyra was voted off, which was like the last two weeks.

By Jex

August 29, 2006 1:53 PM | Link to this

msytique, I would watch it just to see Kelly’s progress as she goes through the show. That would be interesting to see her ‘back when’ knowing how she is now. I really liked her first single - Miss Independent. I’ve been a fan ever since.

Oh, I remember Tamyra too. She was good.

Did you guys read about the 3 year old that was left locked in the closet while his foster parents went to a family reunion. When they returned, he was dead so the father took his body and burned it in a chimney of an abandoned house. Then the mother claims that the boy (who is mentally retarded) was kidnapped from the park where she passed out from a heart condition. When she woke up, the boy was gone.

By Jex

August 29, 2006 2:11 PM | Link to this

I feel sorry for kids who have to go through that system. Some of those foster parents only do it for the money. If I had lots of money, I would adopt a whole house full. And we would watch SpongeBob SquarePants, eat pizza and play video games all the time! Except when they were in school. Or asleep.

By shay

August 29, 2006 2:16 PM | Link to this

Yep, Jex. It’s sad. Apparently, the agency was placing these kids with any family because they get money from the state for each child they place in a home. They are investigating the agency too.

Okay, the ads on tv say it starts in October, the website says September??? Anyway, all the contestants were Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin, Tamyra Gray, RJ Helton, Christina Christian, Ryan Starr, AJ Gil, Ejay Day, and Jim Verraros

By Wanda

August 29, 2006 2:43 PM | Link to this

Ah, I just checked tonight’s tv schedule. I’ll watch Celebrity Duets and record Rock Star Supernova. That’s the way it is, either nothing is on, or everything is on.

But they can’t trick me, oh no. I have a DVR, VCR, and a TIVO. Not that I know how to work them all….

By mystique

August 29, 2006 2:43 PM | Link to this

Oh, that is so awful. How could anyone do that to a poor little child?!

Thanks for the investigative work, Wanda. How could I forget Ryan Star? I hated her! Always in those real low rider jeans and shirts that came up to her bra!! She was trashy. Christina Christian sounds familiar but I can’t place her. Jim Verraros? C’mon, Wanda! You just made that one up, didn’t you :) ??

Btw, I’m practicing to be Mike S. :-) I wish he would visit now and then!

I seem to remember Christina as being good, but I can’t remember exactly. That’s why I think this rewind show will be fun!
