8/22: Fantasia’s film top-rated cable show of the week

fantasia book.jpg

“The Fantasia Barrino Story: Life is Not a Fairy Tale,” starring Fantasia in her own biopic, pulled in 6.65 million viewers this past Saturday night, the most of any cable show the past week. Another 5.04 million tuned in Sunday night. This was the 2nd highest rated telecast Lifetime has ever had, behind only “Almost Golden” in 1995 starring Sela Award about journalist Jessica Savitch. Congratulations Fantasia!

SAD!!!!!!!

Whatever greg! Just like I thought. In addition to the people who wanted to see it because they’re her fans, the negative critiques made a lot of others tune in as well. But I guess it was better than watching the Falcons get their a**es waxed by the Packers.

I’m really surprised, but good for her.

August 22, 2006 2:12 PM | Link to this

Why are you surprised Jex?? She has a lot of fans. She won remember. Those same people who voted for her watched the movie. I voted and I watched. And come on, there ain’t nothing else on Saturday night so why not watch, even if you are not a real fan. Had they aired a Diana Digarmo movie, although I didn’t particularly like her, I still would have watched.

6.65 million viewers …the most of any cable show the past week. That’s huge. I just didn’t expect it to be No.1.

Good Morning everyone!

Shaun, I checked out the Spike Lee/Katrina blog. And it was gettin’ ugly. I thought it was bad in here some times. That blog makes this one look like Sunday School.

Is Lifetime doing a story on Madissa and her weight issue or is that a rumor?

By shay

August 23, 2006 8:36 AM | Link to this

Jex, I haven’t heard that. It may be a rumor but I don’t know.

NEWS FLASH: Jay-Z and Beyonce are getting married in late November. The wedding will cost $3 million. Oprah, Rihanna, and Christina Anguilera will be at the wedding and Kelly, Michelle, and Solange will be in the wedding.

I’m sorry, but that is too much money to be spending on a wedding.

By Carla

August 23, 2006 8:37 AM | Link to this

Morning ya’ll. We think it’s bad in here when racial issues come up, but that blog was 100 degrees worse. Some people said some very ugly things. I had to stop reading it. It still amazes me the hatred some people have in their hearts for others. I’ll never understand it.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 8:37 AM | Link to this

Morning all, yes their blog makes ours look like preschool. I know it is going to be crazy today. He touched on some good points from ALL the citizens affected by Katrina. The thought of that happening was crazy, and no help????

By Jex

August 23, 2006 8:42 AM | Link to this

Please let’s not talk about anything Katrina related. That is a very upsetting topic.

Let’s talk about…how much better Fantasia’s teeth look post AI and braces. I forgot how bad they were when she was on the show. Maybe there’s hope for Elliott.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 8:43 AM | Link to this

Carla, i was happy to see Letoya’s CD doing good. I always thought they got shafted on that deal. But, I heard they still got paid from all the DC cd’s, even after they left the group.

By shay

Shaun, I know Jay-Z has a lot of money, but still they can have just as nice of a wedding for $25K. $3 million is just a waste. There are only so many flowers you can buy.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 8:47 AM | Link to this

Shay, you know how these celeb’s front. Their wedding has to be the best… I want to see how long the marriage will last. I think it is career suicide for B to get married at this point in her life. Can you say Brittney?

By Jex

August 23, 2006 8:48 AM | Link to this

greg, don’t even get me started on the media.

By Carla

August 23, 2006 8:48 AM | Link to this

Um shay. Even regular people have weddings in the six figures. Don’t you watch Bridezilla. Some people have weddings that cost almost $200,000.

By greg

August 23, 2006 8:50 AM | Link to this

i know jex…that’s the reason there’s so much hate in this country.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 8:50 AM | Link to this

You’re right Carla, heck even my wedding was 30k, or almost.

By shay

August 23, 2006 8:52 AM | Link to this

Britney Spears is a joke. I do think B getting married will damage her career. Especially if she decides to get pregnant. For some reason, the industry doesn’t look at house moms or wives the same. Once you become that maternal person, its like all the fantasies that men have of her will be gone. I know before i had my baby and got married, I was a huge sex symbol. And now look, I am just this ordinary girl (i’m kidding)! But I do think it will damage her career, especially since NO celebrity marriages last.

By Carla

August 23, 2006 8:54 AM | Link to this

When Brittany got married take 2 she was not at the top of her game. She had just come off of the annullment with the other guy and the only reason she was in the spotlight is because of JT writing about her on his album. And most importantly, she married a back up dancer who had a girlfriend and two kids. B is marrying Jigga. I don’t think it’s a bad move at all. If they love each other and are ready for the challenges of marriage, then go ahead.

By greg

August 23, 2006 8:56 AM | Link to this

i’ve never been married…but 30k would be a nice down payment on a house.

By Carla

Samuel L. Jackson and Latonya Richardson. Denzel and Pauletta Washington.

By shay

August 23, 2006 8:56 AM | Link to this

I know Carla. I was just throwing a figure out there less than $3 million. But you get my point on the $3 million being to much. Not because its alot of money to them, but because that money could be used for so many other important things.

Shaun, $30k. WTF?? What kind of work do you do? My wedding cost me like $6,000 or $7,000. I flew to vegas, got married, stayed a week for the honeymoon, and then came back to a big reception.

By Jex

August 23, 2006 9:01 AM | Link to this

Weren’t Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis married forever? Isn’t John Travolta still with his wife? Denzel isn’t married to a celebrity, but he’s still married.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:03 AM | Link to this

Carla, being in love and ready for it’s challanges is all good, but we are talking about her career. Men see her as a sex symbol, and once she is married, that will change. That is the reason janet did not disclose her marriage, the public (fans) wants to think they own you. No Britney was not at the top, but she has lost alot because of her marriage.

By Jex

August 23, 2006 9:03 AM | Link to this

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:07 AM | Link to this

Jex, there are some couples that are still together, but stacked up against those who arent, the numbers favor divorce way over sucess.

By Carla

August 23, 2006 9:08 AM | Link to this

Jex, Denzel’s wife is an actress. John Travolta and Kelly Preston and yes Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee. Apparantly B isn’t concerned with her career being in trouble.

By mystique

August 23, 2006 9:09 AM | Link to this

Good Morning! 3 million for a wedding? That is ridiculous!! I know they got the money but come on, don’t just throw it away. They could have a killer wedding at 1 mil if they have to go that far, 3 is just showing off!

By Carla

August 23, 2006 9:11 AM | Link to this

greg, the real character of a man shows in how he treats his friends when they aren’t at their best. His friend may have died doing something illegal, but it was still his friend. And that’s a great tool to teach kids. You don’t throw people away for going down the wrong road.

By shay

August 23, 2006 9:14 AM | Link to this

I’m sorry, but I agree with Shaun. It will hurt her career. Look how J-Lo’s career changed once she started getting married every other week. Have you heard from her lately? Britney Spear??? That’s probably why Angelina Jolie hasn’t married Brad yet. She knows she is a sex symbol and that will change once she get’s married. It’s just something about the woman belonging to another man. The fantasy is over. As long as they view you as still single, even if you are in a long term relationship, then the fantasy is still there, but once you start having babies and getting married, men will view you different. I am not saying B will be doomed, but she will definitely be viewed from now on as Jay-Z’s woman as opposed to Beyonce Knowles. And besides, she is only 24 soon to be 25. What’s the rush unless they plan on having babies right away since Jay-Z is much older? I bet the pressure is on from her parents just like they did Solange. And where is she by the way?

By Jex

August 23, 2006 9:14 AM | Link to this

Carla, she may be an actress, but she’s not a celebrity - easily recognizable in public.

shay, the other day, I made a comment to Carla and told her not to get married. You jumped up immediately and said I shouldn’t have said that. But now you’re downing celebrity marriages. They’re only people. They have problems like ‘regular’ folks. The divorce rate is just way too high for all walks of life I think. People just give up to easily - rich, middle class, poor, greg’s neighborhood.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:14 AM | Link to this

Well said Carla!

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:17 AM | Link to this

lol@ Jex…..Shay, that is correct.

By shay

August 23, 2006 9:22 AM | Link to this

Jex, you know why the divorce rate is so high. Because people are marrying for love and thinking everything else will just fall in place when in reality, that’s not true. If the finances are not straight, you are going to have problems. If there are kids involved, you are going to have problems. If you haven’t discussed every aspect of your life together, you are going to have serious problems. How many kids you want together? Will the wife stay home or work? Debt problems? Fidelity?, etc etc etc. Love does not conquer all.

And I did say for Carla to get married, but to also said for her to wait until she is in her 30’s. I am not saying to not get married. I think Beyonce is too young and too early in her career. She is only 24. I am not downing celebrity marriages. It is a fact that over 75% of them don’t last because of other problems.

Falcons are so lucky to have the best qb in NFL.i hope marcus vick gets a shot with the falcons,so we can continue to be the laughing stock of the NFL!!!!

By Carla

August 23, 2006 9:25 AM | Link to this

There are a lot of celebrity couples where one spouse is not easily recognizable. That doesn’t change the fact that they’re both “celebrities.” So when Halle got married to Eric Benet, did her career tank?

By Jex

August 23, 2006 9:28 AM | Link to this

greg, the Falcons may have their problems, but they’re hardly a laughing stock. Marcus may be an embarrassment to his family, but his actions haven’t flowed into the hearts of true fans.

Oh yeah. Say one more thing about my babies and it’s on!

By shay

August 23, 2006 9:29 AM | Link to this

It didn’t have time to tank. They were only married like 2 years.

i dont claim the falcons…never have!!!

By Carla

August 23, 2006 9:29 AM | Link to this

Ha ha greg. No, Marcus is going to stay in Miami. We don’t need him and yes, we have the best qb in the league IMO.

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:30 AM | Link to this

It is a everyday struggle to make the average marraige work. So you tie in the money and the fame and the most important thing, EGO, you have problems. Lets take Jigga and B for example. He has been a star since 94, 12 yrs. His career is just about over, but her’s is flurishing. This may be a problem because he may start to resent her for catching all the sun. Not wishing bad luck on them but celeb’s are very selfish. On another note, someone sent me a super imposed photo of what their child would look like, it is hilarious!

By Shaun

August 23, 2006 9:34 AM | Link to this

That Falcon comment was way off base. Laughing stock? i think not. Vick is the most exciting and talented player (not just QB) in the league. Now, on the convo that is sensible.

Fantasia’s movie was excellent. The book should be made available to all teenagers because her life story reflects what so many other teenagers are going thru. The support given by her family and friends helped her to go on with her dream and make it a reality. This support is needed by many teenagers. Teen years are difficult to get thru alone. My grandaughter is 10. I allowed her to watch it because it helped her to see some of the things I’ve been telling her about as she approaches her teenage years.

Hi Guys! I have been soooo busy this morning, haven’t been able to breathe, much less comment in here! On the whole marriage thing, yes it does seem that celebrity marriages can be doomed from the start. And an actresses stock goes down once the ring is on her finger, there are some that can avoid the curse because they have a loving commited relationship kept well out of the spotlight. As for regular people marriages, I don’t feel like there is any one right age to marry. It totally depends on the person & the situation.

My question is this AM. What is IDOL material??? Kelly Clarkston? Reuben Studdard? Fantasia Barrino? Carrie Underwood? Taylor Hicks?

What is your definition of an idol? You? Someone who sits at home and make cowardly remarks only to log off of your computer so that you don’t have to hear the responses. Yeah, that’s an idol alright. Tell me, I just want to know. We get that you don’t like Fantasia. That’s cool. Alot of people don’t. But that does not mean that you have to frown down on her success just because she made it and did something with her life after she made a few bad decisions. Let me guess, you would have much rather her stayed in the hood and not tried out for idol so that you could have continued to take care of her through government assistance. Oh yeah, that would have been a better decision for her. Right?

Hey AM, the Bible says we ain’t s’posed to have idols. We are all sinners, remember all that? A real American Mother would :-D

I thought Fantasia’s movies was good and I’m proud of her for straightening out her life like she did.

Why is it like every other week someone is complaining about not being on topic?? Sweetie if Rodney hasn’t had a problem with it all these months, why is he going to start now? Because you have a problem with it? I think not. If you don’t want to read the other posts don’t. KISS.

By Jex

Ooh, Carla. Not the KISS. I really think it’s the same few people just coming on here startin’ stuff. They all say the same thing the same way.

I guess I will head out and grab some lunch here in 15 or so. I know though, once you go out those doors and taste freedom it is hard to come back! I am with Carla on the dislike of the mugginess, too! Its just too hot to go anywhere, cool down already!

Hey, I didn’t Name the show!!!! I check this blog out every now and then to see if the same idiots are babbling about any AND everything and then I continue with my life. I do not care for fantasia and good for her and her success, BUT that does not mean I have to do an about face, and suddenly like her, I just think that all the LITTLE girls that watch the show can GET THE IDEA that if you are a slimy teen, unwed mother and drop out, that it will all be ok, USUALLY it is NOT!!! Why oh why can’t yall get that??? I don’t attack anyone for their views, so back off, stop and smell the “whatever” and if you are supposed to be working, WHY don’t you get busy???? I am an early retiree, enjoying life to the fullest, think I’ll go take a swim, and MAYBE check back toward the end of the week, but why? nothing will have changed, AND for the RECORD, Rodney does not like the ongoing babble either, but like me, he has learned how to skip most of it, since the TOPIC is so often left by the way side!!!!! Anyway the reviews, seemed to think the movie sucked, but I could told you that before you wasted your time watching, but then again, to EACH his OWN!!
Peace and LOVE AM

American Mother:

I SOOOOOOO agree with you.

I’ve made the same points about “Mantasia”.

And the same ones (the regular AI bloggers)seem to attack every time I make a point that just happens to be true about Fantasia.

Makes no sense.

Fantasia is no idol.

She just “happened” to have tried out for AI by chance, won and is now rich.

Who gives a “shyte”?

She needs to invest the money she won in a speech therapist.

By the way, her dentist did wonders. Her teeth were jacked up. Look at the audition. I’m sure some of you losers (you know who you are) probably taped it. She looked like a straight up Crackhead.

Shay,

If b* means what I think you mean then back at you and erase yourself. There was no need to get STUPID because I stated the obvious. If you want to turn this blog into a regular chat room session then start one OK! Otherwise keep it moving cause this one is about my girl Fantasia.

AM, don’t go pointing fingers, judge not lest ye be judged and all that. I’m an early retiree too and I’ll do as I please. As for the others on here that are at work, I said they could blog all they want about anything they want. If you don’t like it, see me, or go away. That goes for Eve and Tina, though I suspect you are all one MPD.

Sorry folks, I had a bad night last night and I’m hurting like heck today so I come here to escape and have fun, not listen to a bunch of nonsense.

Oh yeah, I love Fantasia’s movie!

By Carla

August 23, 2006 2:24 PM | Link to this

Tina get a grip. No one attached you for calling Fantaisa Mantasia. I asked you why you called the girl a slut based upon what she had on. Don’t try to twist things because you think you have an ally. AM comes on here all the time ribbing people. It’s what she does. We accept that and her opinions. What she doesn’t do is call people sluts which is what you did. And since we’re losers, why don’t you get lost before you become one too. I don’t understand why people like you come on the blog and act like if you don’t get your way the world is going to end. Give it a rest already!

greg, I am NOT the leader of the bunch, just a girl who will speak her mind. I too get tired of people coming on here complaining. Then we have to get sweet people like Wanda to go off on you when she is not in the best of health at the moment. Now, I will ignore American Idiot (I mean Mother) because she always make the same comment and I think she is a little spacey from time to time, but to the other two.

Eve: B* means just what you thought it meant. Beeeach!

Tina: hummmmmm! Low self esteem honey? You don’t win idol by chance. It’s not like buying a lottery ticket. You spend a dollar and then your #’s are picked. Millions of people didn’t just accidentally vote for her. They voted for her because they thought she deserved to win.

Define loser: would that be one who comes on a blog and puts down others to make herself feel good.

By Eve

August 23, 2006 2:50 PM | Link to this

Wanda,

I have been blogging on this Idol blog for the past 2 years and I am no MPD and Tina and I are definitely not the same person. I am normally nice when I’m on here because I like reading comments regarding AI but it urks me when I have to scan through 20 blogs about personal stuff to get to the topic material. I am usually on here for a few minutes at a time since I’m at work but when I have to search for the blogs that takes up a lot of time. Therefore I complained about it. Apparently some of you can’t take a little criticism and decided to resort to using derogatory statements.

Shay, Jex and Carla,

You don’t run this blog, so email each other personally and continue to talk about nothing on your own time not everybody elses. PEACE!

By Carla

August 23, 2006 2:53 PM | Link to this

Eve, you don’t need to bring my name up. I will respond and participate in any dialogue I feel like. I don’t care if you don’t like it. So I guess during the season when there were 500 posts and they weren’t all about AI, it was cool then, but now scrolling through 80 is just too hard. I’ve never called you or anyone on here a derogatory name. So get it right. The end.

By Jex

August 23, 2006 2:54 PM | Link to this

Eve, I aint’ said shyt to you. So don’t tell me what to freakin’ do. Email yourself, print it out and shove it up your a**.

By shay

August 23, 2006 2:56 PM | Link to this

Eve, you don’t get it. You can comment about whatever you want and you are entitled to your own opinions, but what we are trying to tell you is that this is a idol/talk about whatever the hell you want blog. So don’t criticize if you don’t want to hear about Jay-Z and Beyonce. Just like we didn’t to hear about you complaining earlier. What did that have to do with the topic? Nothing!

By mystique

August 23, 2006 2:56 PM | Link to this

Wow, we have got some drama going on in here this afternoon, huh? I normally let all the negativity slide without commenting, y’all know I am non confrontational! But I feel like I gotta say something…

AM, Tina, and Eve, we do not set out each day to offend you. We merely come in here to share opinions. Everyone is welcome! No, we aren’t always on the precious topic, but it works. No one is forcing you to visit this blog! Rodney, please forgive us babbling idiots! Personally, I don’t know what it is hurting.

AM dear, I would think that as an early reitree you could relate to the day to day grind. It is nice to be able to talk with a friend, have an outlet. Helps to keep the stresses down to a minimum.

Carla,

When there were 500 blogs 75% were about AI, now that there are 140 over 1/2 are the three of you, so calculate that? You spoke your mine and so did I so you’re right that’s the end.

Jex,

Grow the F up! Can you translate that?

By Jex

August 23, 2006 3:02 PM | Link to this

I know right shay! LOL!

Rodney, I offer you my sincerest apologies for my previous post.

My thing is, how serious can this blog be in the first place? Why do people feel the need to come in here, call us names and demand that we do what they want? We’re talking about a reality TV show, which a lot of people believe to be rigged one way or another anyway. It’s not like we come here to discuss cease fires, child molestation or the war on drugs. May I have a break Please?

By shay

August 23, 2006 3:05 PM | Link to this

I guess this wouldn’t be a good time to discuss my baby pooping in his potty for the first time today!!

But I am too excited. Sorry, back on topic. I hope my baby poops in the pot tomorrow too just like Fantasia did when she was a baby wink!

How did I do?

By Jex

August 23, 2006 3:08 PM | Link to this

Eve, did you notice that one scene in the movie where Fantasia was smoking? I had no idea she smoked. Her voice is so strong and I’m sure her lungs are as well. I don’t see how she can smoke and belt out tunes like that. Maybe it was a passing phase. What do you think?

By shay

August 23, 2006 3:09 PM | Link to this

uh oh, look at little Evealina going off on somebody. Honey, it ain’t that serious.

By shay

August 23, 2006 3:14 PM | Link to this

Or Eve, remember when Tasia was laying on the bed after she had gotten raped, did you feel sorry for her or did you think she deserved it. I didn’t think she was being fast. Just tryin’ to fit in with the crowd and ended up getting into some serious trouble.

Or Eve, did you like the berry lipgloss Tasia was wearing when she got in her boyfriends truck after school.

Or Eve, remember when Kadeem keep say “Fantasia, I’m yo daddy”. That was hilarious.

By Jex

August 23, 2006 3:15 PM | Link to this

shay did he go to the potty on his own, or did he let you know he had to go and you took him, then he pooped.

In the movie, they didn’t mention how Fantasia potty trained her daughter. Nope, they didn’t mention that at all in the movie.

By shay

August 23, 2006 3:20 PM | Link to this

He went by himself. He is at daycare and we were putting him on the pot every hour. So he pooped on his own. I am sure Fantasia’s little girl told her when she had to poop but my baby can’t talk that well yet, so he didn’t do like Fantasia’s daughter, he just went on his own.

By Wanda

August 23, 2006 3:20 PM | Link to this

Eve, if you have been coming on here for two years then you know how it works. Unless your name is Rodney don’t even try to tell people what to post and not to post.

Yes, Fantasia was a smoker. She quit as soon as she got her ticket to Hollywood, so YET ANOTHER good on her!

By shay

August 23, 2006 3:22 PM | Link to this

Jex, Tasia was smoking on the part too when she was sitting in the courtyard listening to her cd player and her hair was not combed. Remember, she had on that grey and pink striped body/jogging suit. She did smoke but stopped after she started idol, according to the book.

By Wanda

August 23, 2006 3:26 PM | Link to this

Congratulations Shay! I bet Zion sang to her mama when she had to poop :-) Seriously, girls develop language skills faster than boys (and we are still at it!) So, yeah, I bet Fantasia’s baby was easy to train.

By Jex

August 23, 2006 3:28 PM | Link to this
