8/21: Ryan, Ruben in Birmingham

Based on blog accounts at Idol Chatter at USA Today, cops are estimating about 10,000-plus at the arena there in Birmingham. Ruben Studdard popped by to sing a ditty and Ryan was there to do his standard intro we’ll see in about five months.
And the mass sing-a-long was, of course, “Sweet Home Alabama.”
Here’s a story from The Birmingham News with Taylor reminiscing about his Las Vegas audition a year ago:
“I didn’t fall in with all the singing and screaming and banner waving. I was somewhat excited, but I kept quiet and kept to myself. I was kind of like the weird, gray-headed guy in the corner. People couldn’t figure me out.”
He then goes into a blow by blow account of going through the first three rounds before heading to Hollywood.
