4/24: Love, American style

Are you looking forward to tomorrow night? Since this is love songs, I presume there will be a lot of ballads. Could we be snoozing through this one? Will we get goosebumps?

Also, Simon Cowell talked to the NY Post. Here’s the story. As usual, he is Simon and the Psost gets some good quotes. Such as:

His take on some post-“Idol’ finalist careers:

“It’s like every artist in the world today, particularly when you don’t write your own material. You are always at the mercy of what your next song is. I can’t sing you one of Ruben or Fantasia’s songs. But I can remember in my mind all the big Kelly songs. The simple answer is Fantasia’s songs aren’t as good as Kelly’s are.”

On Ryan Seacrest:

“Ryan [Seacrest] is the most competitive person on the planet,” says Cowell of the show’s host, “and I just wind him up.”

“If he reads about something I’ve done professionally, he’ll get straight on the phone to his agent: ‘You’ve got to get me something, now.’ ”

Morning to all, let the Love Flow!!!!

By Deirdre

April 24, 2006 08:21 AM | Link to this

Good morning, everyone. Come on over to the new blog entry.

I predict goosebumps, Rodney, we have very good singers left on the show now. However, I’m a little annoyed that this week’s theme is so much like last week’s theme. Elliot, Kat ,Chris, Taylor and Paris should have no trouble. Kellie will be alright as long as she doesn’t leave the orchestra behind like she did last week. What am I saying, Kellie will be alright anyway. She’s got lots of fans and VFTW in her corner. She could call those hogs tomorrow night and she still wouldn’t be in the bottom 3.

By Carla

April 24, 2006 08:29 AM | Link to this

Morning. I really hope the night isn’t boring and we do get goosebumps from more than one person. It’s down to the point now where they have to be great, not good, each performance.

You’re so right, Carla. Everyone has to be prepared to knock our socks off. I’m hoping they get to pick from a more up to date list of songs, if only to distinquish between this week and last.

By Carla

April 24, 2006 08:36 AM | Link to this

Deirdre, I guess that depends on the definition of classic. Because that will determine where the music comes from.

By Deirdre

April 24, 2006 08:39 AM | Link to this

Mike will have to do some research for us :) I’m not at all sure what they mean by classic. Are the songs going to be drawn fron Andrea Bocelli’s pop CD’s? He really doesn’t have that much to choose from. One more question. Is it next week that each singer gets to sing 2 songs?

Mornin ya’ll! How was everyone’s weekend?

By Deirdre

April 24, 2006 08:53 AM | Link to this

I was planting petunias and impatiens and a bunch of other stuff all weekend. I love Spring! The yard always looks so pretty. I also had to chase a 5 foot long rat snake off my deck. One of my dogs thought it would be really fun to play with. I had to bring her inside until the snale escaped.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

I was searching the internet this weekend for and idea of “Classic Love Songs”. One thing I did find out was that the CD for Seasn 2 was “Classic American Love Songs”.

Here is what was sung on that CD. I’m not sure if this is what the type of music for tomorrow night will be or not.

Superstar - Ruben Studdard

On The Wings of Love - Clay Aiken

At Last - Julia DeMato

Three Times A Lady - Joshua Gracin

Let’s Stay Together - Trenyce

Back at One - Rickey Smith

Killing Me Softly With His Song - Kimberly Caldwell

Open Arms - Corey Clark

How Do I Live - Carmen Rasmusen

Over The Rainbow - Kimberley Locke

If that’s a list of classic love songs, then everybody ought to be able to find something that’s right up their alley. Thanks, Mitch, let’s hope that is the style of music they are talking about.

I was scared, Shay but I would rather it escaped than watch my dog throw it around the deck. Keep in mind, I am the mother of 2 boys. You would not believe the things I had to deal with on an everyday basis while they were growing up.

By shay

April 24, 2006 09:15 AM | Link to this

Yeah, I have two boys too. I am not looking forward to some of the pets the are going to want. My 9 year old decided to cut his own hair on Sunday morning. Well when I went to go wake him up for breakfast, he had gaps all over his head. It scared the you know what out of me and I started screaming because I thought his hair was falling out and that we needed to rush him to the emergency room!!! Parenting is crazy. Come to find out, he had taken the scissors and tried to cut his own hair without a mirror. He didn’t think it was a big deal but we had to have his whole head shaved yesterday afternoon to make up for the gaps.

At this point in the game..it dosent matter. Well established are Chris, Paris, Kat. a Taylor..Kellie(has a fan base obvious so dosent matter what she sings its apparent she will be OK>the last few bias voting weeks proved that. Would like to hear Kat. tackle Dionnes” Never Love this Way Again.- Paris- All the Man I Need(a Whitney Song) Chris-Youve Lost that Loving Feeling Taylor-Georgia on My Mind- Elliot- I’m So Lonesome I could Cry-Kellie(Any Country Ballet old or new…same response(and the country voters keep her afloat(she will get Buckys Votes)

Good morning beautiful people! Ol Vin is riding the horse again. Deidre I am suddenly embarrassed. I had a 3 inch baby black snake slither in front of me on my driveway and you would have thought it was a python the way I jumped up on top of my Explorer! Then hubby teases me and says, “you know the mama is close by if there’s a baby”. Gee, thanks hubby! I steam cleaned carpets all weekend and the house is so fresh and clean. Now about songs, I would love for someone to sing “My Heart Will Go On”..still get goosebumps when I hear it. But I too like MStevens picks…especially “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling for Chris”.

By Carla

Hey Mitch…Nashville Star…how is it that Nicole Jamrose made it this far?! She was pretty bad last week and I predict we’ll finally see her gone tomorrow night. Chris Young is still the guy to beat…even though Casey did a great job too.

By Deirdre

April 24, 2006 09:57 AM | Link to this

I also love My Heart Will Go On, Vin, but I think it now has a reputation of being cheesy and could hurt anyone who sings it. I don’t get the ‘cheesy’ thing with that song…I think it’s beautiful. Maybe it is just that anyone who sings it after Celine’s version, is taking a big chance. Sort of like, Whitney’s version of I Will Always Love You, that would be risky for anyone to attempt. As for the snake, once I get over the ‘startle effect”, where I would also jump up on the nearest and highest object, then I kind of try to relax and enjoy the show. All creatures are interesting (except scorpions…I have a thing about scorpions)

By vin

April 24, 2006 09:57 AM | Link to this

Floggers!! You are funny YoDaddy.

Carla, if my husband has to see Titanic one more time I think he’s going to puke. It’s been on the movie channels for the last month and I’ve probably seen it 6 or 7 times …even my son is now responding. “oh mom..not again!” I think I watch it just for that song!

PS…It’s great to be back Carla!!!

By vin

April 24, 2006 10:03 AM | Link to this

Deidre..LOL, you’re right about the cheese behind Celine’s song..unless the male voters can think about that one canvas moment in the movie(wink!), I’m afraid it would torture them to hear it.

By Deirdre

April 24, 2006 10:06 AM | Link to this

Ok but, Vin, I don’t think My Heart Will Go On was playing when Kate Winslet’s puppies were exposed :)

By Mitch

April 24, 2006 10:09 AM | Link to this

I have wandered from the beginning how Nicole made it from week to week. One thing is for sure, if people heard Nicole, they wouldn’t say anything else negative about Kellie (hehe). Tomorrow night should be a good one. It will be the last chance for the 3 remaining singers to capture the votes.

While I agree that it is Chris Young’s to lose, Casey will will probably gain alot of support if he does a good job on “How Great Though Art”. Country fans do like the occasional gospel song thrown in there.

I’m going to give you a Kellie moment, Mitch. I taped last week’s show and watched it a second time over the weekend. While Kellie had a couple of pitch problems and got herself way ahead of the orchestra, I actually liked her voice with this song…and she seemed to connect with it. It was a very good choice for her. It’s too bad she ran into those problems.

We need to find an opinion forum that we can migrate to after AI is over. A place where we could rgister our names and not have to put up with so much junk. We could invade the Savannah paper’s forum, since AJC doesn’t have one.

Check it out here

Sadly, like during last year’s offseason, I kept this blog alive. I think maybe 10 people a day even bothered to look at it and my friend Lara was the only one who posted, but it will always be here for you — at least until the paper decides nobody cares about “Idol” anymore… :)

Okay…here’s my joke of the day…

A farmer goes out one day and buys a brand new stud rooster for his chicken coop. The rooster struts over to the old rooster and says, “OK, old fart, time to retire.”

The old rooster replies, “Come on, you can’t handle ALL these chickens. Look what it’s done to me. Can’t you just let me have the two old hens over in the corner?”

The young rooster says, “Beat it! You’re washed up and I’m taking over.”

The old rooster says “I’ll tell you what, young stud, I’ll race you around the farmhouse. Whoever wins gets exclusive domain over the entire chicken coop.”

The young rooster laughs, “You know you don’t stand a chance old man, so just to be fair, I’ll give you a head start.”

The old rooster takes off running. About 15 seconds later the young rooster takes off after him. They round the front of the farmhouse and the young rooster has closed the gap. He’s already about 5 inches behind the old rooster and gaining fast.

The farmer, meanwhile, is sitting on the front porch when he sees the roosters running by, one right behind the other. He grabs his shotgun and BOOM! — he blows the young rooster to bits.

The farmer sadly shakes his head, “D*mn…third gay rooster I’ve bought this month.”

Rod seems like a happy kinda guy, doesn’t he?

I think the contests who remain are competent enough to get through a week without ‘help’. Who knows, maybe Andrea Bocelli is a big fan of the show but I think he and his promoters are using Idol to get more attention for his pop CD’s. I don’t think he gives a flying fig about these kids. I could be wrong, I often am. :)

Ohhhhhhh yes they are. I’m starting to think a couple of people in this office think I’m incompetent and just all around stupid. I’m assuming because I’m young. And they’ve been giving me work they feel they’re too good or as they say ‘busy’ to do. Calling me to tell me to call someone else and tell them what they just told me??? What??? They could save a whole step by callin them themselves. This other lady complained her workload was too much and her supervisor and mine agreed to have me help her with these letter things that have to be typed. So Friday I typed and sent them to her email thinkin she could look at them make sure they were ok and print them and do whatever needs to be done. She tells me, “Oh no, I can’t print them, that’s just too much for me to do” I didn’t like the way she said that at all. So today I was still workin on some more letters I printed them and handed them to her. Now she’s complaining that the font that the address is in is too small and all the text needs to be on one sheet. She wants me to increase the font size AND fit all the text on one sheet. Yeah okay, I’m just a little college student receptionist temp but I’m not gonna allow these people to make me feel inferior. I don’t recall being their personal servant.

Ok, Ken now that you have vented don’t you feel better…..just look at them and kill them with kindness….it works..trust! Thank them each day that you leave there for helping you to better yourself and to be ready for the real world, all the while you are laughing at them on the inside! Always remember….Knowledge is powerful so learned as much as you can! We are all here to support you!

Thanks ya’ll, my supervisor even looked at me weird when I told her what the woman wanted me to do with the letters. I think she bothers everybody. This other woman got mad and stormed out of her office with her hand up like, “WHATEVER, I’ll do it myself”. I’m assuming she puts work off on everyone.

Aww thanks Diva. I do laugh on the inside and I’m always nice but since Friday when they come in my office to bring me more BS I haven’t looked up from what I’m doing. If I don’t have anything nice to say I figure don’t say anything at all. I’m never working for the state again after I finish this job. That’s all I know.

Yea, I am diappointed because these all soft songs. Why cant they do a Bon Jovi or Motley Crew night. Tribute to the 80’s rock bands.

Just got back from Krogering and the place was empty…are we supposed to be boycotting Kroger or something?

Hey again Jeff. You popped in, you popped out. I am all over Bon Jovi! They have sustained staying power since the 80’s and I love their music. That would be a great set for the IDOLS to sing.

The only problem with that is Jon Bon Jovi doesn’t need Idol to advertise his music. He’s doing just fine without their help.

The only ‘oldtimer’ I believe is sincere about wanting to work with these singers, so far, is Manilow. He’s there almost every year whether he has something coming out or not. The clips of him with the idols show him actually working with them. Kenny did some work but I think everyone else was there to sell something and to have some fun. I think the idols will all sing very well tomorrow night but I don’t think it will be because they were helped by Bocelli. I have a couple of his CD’s and admire his work but, if you ask me, with pop music, he could learn something from the idols instead of the other way around.

hmmm i lost my post….

i said something like… i think the “hard” bands are reluctant to allow AI contestants to use their music because by it’s very nature, AI is “pop” and “hard” bands/performers are usually a bit reluctant to get any connection to “pop” … they’d love the pop money, but usually are pretty strong on NOT weakening their reputation that way…

NOT that i think all pop music is “weaker” … just looking at it from their standpoint, yanno?

Deirdra, I had to laugh for personnel reasons about the “Krogering”. When I lived in Atlanta, my partner and I had gone to Kroger. It had been a stressful day. It was right after our apartment fire (2001). The Kroger we went to had just installed the self check outs. The lines were long everywhere. We didn’t have alot of items and didn’t see the limit sign so we got in lign for self check out. A busy body got inline behind us and started running her mouth about us having too many items.

As I said, it was after our apartment fire, we were tired, stressed out and not in the mood for it. I listened to her patiently for the first 10 minutes but with 2 of us in line and less than the limit if we both paid seperately, I was not going to get out of line and go to another line at this point.

I made it up to to start checking out and she got even more vocal about it. Did I tell you I can be very vindictive? I rang about half the items, cashed out. I let my partner ring up the other half and then I paid for his.

As we started to leave the “nice lady” decided she wanted to get in my face. Have I ever told you I can be very nice and will take anything until you push me too far? She pushed me too far. I turned around and let into that woman. I told her had she kept that big mouth of hers shut instead of being the B* that she had been I would have probably at least let her go in front of me. I through in alot of choice words I normally do not use.

Ever since then, when someone starts to push me just a little too far, my partner tells them to be careful before they make me go “Krogering”

Could this be the week Taylor sings Georgia On My Mind. Found the first hint for taylor’s song….

As for next week, the theme will be love songs and Taylor is already getting in the mood. He’ll perform in a velvet blazer that he purchased from Traffic in West Hollywood’s Beverly Center.

Now, Ray Charles was known for wearing a Velvet Blazer when he performed. ONe of the song on the CD “Ray Charles Love Songs” - Georgia On My Mind.

i just got off the phone with Idol co-executive producer Ken Warwick. who did a mass press phone conference. I posted some of what he said on a new blog item so if you want to start working on that one, feel free! The best bit I got was that they are planning an Elvis themed night down the road. That could be fun!

Loved your Krogering story,Mitch…haven’t we all come across that person at one time or another? Someone who thinks it’s their duty to keep you obeying all the rules. At the opposite spectrum, have you met the person with 3 items in their hands who gets in line behind you and keeps crowding you so that you’ll notice that they only have three items and maybe you’ll let them go ahead of you…even if you only have 8 items??? And then they have the nerve to look all huffy at you because your 8 items will take a full 30 seconds longer than their 3.

I usually don’t say anything and go after the silent kill. Funniest thing I ever did was I had a college boyfriend that decided he was going to cheat on me and have a girl spend the night. Not too bright..it’s Christmas break and the apt bldg parking lot is empty. There are two cars…his and hers, snuggled happily, side by side. So me and my sister swung by at 2:00am after the club. So I’m thinking, okay she wants to spend the night? She’s going to stay here allright! So I let the air out of both tires on the other side of the car that weren’t visible. I was laughing and giggling so hard I kept falling over. Wish I could have seen their faces the next day, Christmas, and no one is open (small town). :-) There was another devious thing I did to a boyfriend who wronged me in California but it was way worse. Still proud of that one!

Vin, I live in Lewisville which is about 1/2 way between Dallas & Ft. Worth. I don’t go to the bars to often. Usually when I do go out, I got to Billy Bob’s in Ft Worth to a concert.

There is a nice drag bar in Dallas called the “Rose Room”. I have been there a couple times.

I don’t know if he’s still doing Edna Jean…maybe he stopped before you moved there since you haven’t heard of him. But he did have a name in the gay community…Lewisville..sounds like a small town. Just where you want to be when you like NASCAR, country music and men! :-)
