Where are you watching the inauguration?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Today, Barack Obama takes the oath of office to become this country’s 44th president.
Where are you watching the inauguration? Did you take the day off from work or school to watch? Do you plan to attend a public or private inauguration viewing party or will you watch from the comfort of your living room?
If you have to work, has your boss made provisions for employees to watch? Can you watch video streaming from your desk? How do you feel about this moment?
We also want to share your inaugural experiences. Send us your photos whether you’re in Atlanta or D.C.

A TV has been set up where I work, but I will actively avoid watching the event. Too many of the folks I work with are hard core Obama supporters and I have no doubt that his speech will be filled with too many things that will both make me laugh and possibly elicit comments that would not be appreciated.
My support of the free market, the constitution, personal liberty, sound money, limited government, sensible foreign policy and the like are well known. There’s certainly no reason to bring up any of these things on a day like today. It would only get me in trouble with my coworkers.

I have absolutely no interest in watching. Obama’s inauguration is a far cry from being the culmination of King’s dream. Millions of people voted for him simply because of the color of his skin - not the content of his character. I think King would be pleased a black man is president - but would be sad over the way it occurred.

It is a great day when Americans can wash themselves of the political mud and slime of eight years of the failures of the Republican party, its policies its President and step into a new era , one without so called “compassionate conservatism” Endless hypocrity and twofaced policial manuvering by the “conservative demigogs” comes to and end today Look at the people in the crowd thats the real America compared to the crowd that showed up a t George Bush’s inauguration.
No Obama won’t save the world but he will give us inspiration. He believes in listening to the people..George Bush had no idea what gas prices were a few months back

It floors me that everyone thinks this man could do worse than Bush. Seriously? What cave are you living in? For the record, I work full-time and do NOT rely on the government to support me, but Bush has made a mess of this country.

I will be watching from home and praying for President Obama and praying for the people who will fill this blog with negative comments. This is a historical day no matter who you are and it will be an historical day whether or not people choose to be a part of it. Me and my family choose to be a part of it and will celebrate today.40 or 50 years from now we will have first hand historical memories to share with our future generation.

You bet we’re watching!!! This is the most historical and important inauguration since George Washingtons or Abraham Lincolns! We Love it and we’re so proud that we voted for President Obama! I had a revelation earlier today. If Bush and Cheney are so called devout “Christians” then they have sure done alot to tick God off! I mean I’d hate to be them come their judgement day! It’s not gonnna be pretty.

NO I will not be watching. I even kept my 13 year old daughter home from school because they were going to be required to watch it at her school. She is very disappointed as I am, over Who won this election and doesn’t want to talk part in the ceremonies. I too am a part of a “working family” and don’t want to hear all the “lies” that have been promised to us, over and over all day long. I will watch my Tivo all day today.

I have noticed how since the beginning of the election I have yet to hear or read a positive comment about obama without a slur or bashing of Bush or the GOP.It is impossible for this man to stand on his own merits. He is a man elected because he is black and his name was on the ticket. Black Americans would vote for a janitor as president if he got on the ticket. How said these days are. Without a doubt the darkest days of our Republic. This makes Nixon look like George washington

Well, as much as I anticipate this speech, I have to say that Obama really blew it!
First, Mr. Transparency was introduced as Barack H. Obama, not using Hussein (sp?) as his middle name. Every other former president had their full names announced. I don’t care that his middle name is Hussein, but HE apparently does. Hmmm.
Second, he botched the oath of office. He needs to stick to the teleprompter, otherwise he stumbles.
Last, his acceptance speech was more of a campain speech. He had an opportunity to deliver his version of “I had a dream” speech, but instead delivered “I AM the dream” at the exact wrong time. I winced.
Bottom line, this guy is our president so let’s get behind him. Also remember that words are cheap, and that actions speak louder than words.
Lots of people and hype, disappointing performance. Sorry.
He asked for the ball, now let’s hope he can make the shot.

To answer the original question …NO I will not and will not allow a TV in this house to be turned to anything about this election. People throw out words like “Unity” “The real America” “Change” What happened to Freedom, Liberty, Economic freedom, Free Market,Responsible representation? They are gone the way of Families who sit down at night to eat together, families who go to church on Sunday, Children expected to act like normal kids and not sit in front of a tv all day, respect for elders, also can someone name one thing that Bush has done that has DIRECTLY negatively affected your life? I realize lowering the price of gas by allowing the ban on offshore drilling to go away does not count, I have yet to hear one person thank him for the new price in gas.If libs are in control we pay $4:00 or more with the gop we pay $1:50 or less. hmmm. I guess that is all the concern for the working families.

At what point did the word historic begin to carry a positive connotation. Just because something is historic does not mean there are positive aspects of it. The holocaust was historic, that doesn’t mean I would watch it on TV. I already had one racially motivated holiday this week, I don’t think my boss would be happy with another.

We have finally broke away from the BabyBoomers outdated policies with the election of President Obama! No matter how much they want it, we cannot go back to the Eisenhower years of their childhoods. Nor can we blow the world up in the name of “safety” and never pay taxes again. These actions do not work for the good of America or it’s people. For too long, we have left the older generation in charge, much to the people’s detriment. Now is the dawning of a new age. Now America can truly move forward. We can begin to examine our problems and work together to fix them! “Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country”! Let’s work together to become what our forefathers intended us to be - the greatest country in the world!

Barack did not mess up the oath of office. He merely repeated the Chidf Justice who said it wrong in the first place. By switching the words around. Below is the actual oath.
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

What a sad and unbelievable amount of backbiting, veiled racism, and political partisanship in these comments.
Whether you voted for him or not, whether you like him or not, he’s the President of the United States. You can either spend the next 4 years with your fingers in your ears, shouting LALALA through all his speeches and dreaming nostalgically of Bush and WMDs and “Mission Accomplished”, and nitpicking every word, every movement, every fault you find with Obama… or you can shut up, step up, and actually make some kind of difference in your life and the future your kids will have.
He’s right. We’re at a crossroads, and the next 4 years can make or break this nation. He’s just one guy. It’s on ALL of us to fix what’s broken. Or we can sit back, fiddle while America burns, and then point the finger at him while we sift through the ruins.

Barack did not mess up on the Oath. The Oath was read to him wrong by the Chief. Anywoo….today is day of pride for ALL. We as a country have sworn in a new President. No matter his race, religion or creed. We as a country need to stand behind him. We are now as a COUNTRY in a state of disarray… we have family and friends losing their jobs and homes. We need some new thoughts and ideas to bring this country forward. No matter who would of took the oath of office today that person still would of had to face our econimic crisis. I give President Obama my full support. I feel we all should. Have a beautiful day!

To answer the initial question: I watched the inauguration in my company’s conference room with my co-workers.
We’re a diverse group - all different races, religions, and political beliefs. But regardless of that, we all came together in quiet recognition that we were witnessing history in the making.
Whether or not you voted for Obama, or believe in his politics, today was a significant moment in America’s history, and I’m deeply disappointed in my fellow Americans who were too narrow-minded to overcome their personal prejudices to witness it.

I’m just waiting for those classic comments we heard so many of after the announcement of the election. “Obama gonna pay my car insurance and my mortgage! I’m gonna help him and he gonna help me!”
Ok, yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it. He is a dictator and I will support him as our president but I will NOT stand for his views. Hello, partial birth abortion?? My goodness can you be any more selfish? Let’s not even get into spreading the wealth. Oh and stop staying CHANGE, that word is over played now. Start doing and stop saying. Your actions will speak louder then your (teleprompted) words!

omg. So I went to eat lunch in the cafeteria at my office, and it was on the big screen! Fine. I sat down to eat my lunch and I wondered why everyone was glaring at me-I happened to be walking during the Lord’s Prayer-is my best guess. I said something to my friend next to me and we were shushed!!! I glared at that ignorant person who thought they were in a movie theatre rather than in a cafeteria!!!! So then I was finished eating, and wanted to leave but didn’t because I was afraid people would throw a fit I was walking in front of the screen. Once again people, its a cafeteria, GO HOME AND WATCH it if you want to be undisturbed. So I had to sit through the hideous speech, that sounded more like a campaign speech than an acceptance speech. Seemed like it lasted an hour. And Can I just note that I work in Connecticut, so you can only imagine, that I am a minority here. Honestly, I hope he does well, but that was a horrible speech. Shut up and put your “plans” into action, stop repeating yourself like a parrott. Lesson Learned: Should have eaten lunch at my desk.

All of you who insist that Obama messed up the oath obviously were NOT watching CNN when they EMPHATICALLY announced that the Chief Justice is the one who MESSED up and that Obama chuckled because he KNEW the oath and KNEW that the Chief Justice MESSED UP! I would suggest before you start commenting that you check your facts first. It is disgraceful that individuals are this disheartened by the fact that this country has FINALLY made a statement. There is no where in the constitution does it state that ONLY a white man can be President…I’m sure if you all who are bothered by Obama being President, would definitely want to re-write the constitution at this point. Surely Obama cannot put us in any worse shape than good ole Georgie put us in for the past 8 years!! And for the person who commented that African Americans would have voted for a janitor, please understand. Obama is NOT the first African American to have been on the quest to become US President. However he has been the MOST qualified to serve in such a position. For you to make such a comment really tells alot about who you are. Guess it’s true, the white sheets have been replaced with business suits…WOW!!!

I never thought that America would ever experience a CULT OF PERSONALITY at the national level. Sadly, America is just as fallible as every other culture on this planet in the course of human history. The children of Ron Clark Academy sang their adoration to B. Hussein Obama. The following also had their names sung / adored by children…
Saddam Hussein Ayatollah Great Leader - Kim Jong’Il Ho Chi Minh Kmer Rouge Stalin Hitler Lenin
Like all other Americans today, I too shed tears for this great country of ours.

I can’t help but wonder what the reaction today would be if McCain had won the election. Certainly, the people complaining here would sing a different tune and all criticisms would have to stop promptly. Yet the MAJORITY of Americans would feel cheated and only see the long dark tunnel in front of another same ol’, same ol’ administration. An administration that led us to this point and then sat back and watched while it all fall apart, an administration that refused to divulge details of actions it was performing but listened in on our phone calls, an administration that wasted our tax dollars fighting a war that can’t be won, an administration that believes healthcare for our children is a privilege, an administration that watched greedy CEO’s send reward themselves with multi-million dollar bonuses while laying the American worker off.
Amen for change! Free at last! free at last! Thank God Almighty we are FREE AT LAST!

I work from home, so it was easy. But I celebrated in a very special way. My 90 year old father is in a nursing home in Pennsylvania. He was a very dynamic lawyer, and spend his whole life fighting for and defending our civil rights and civil liberties. He’s now in the advanced stages of dementia, but has good days. Today was one.
My sister lives in California. And thanks to the wonders of technology, we connected via 3-way calling, and all 3 of us watched the ceremony together. Dad was probably more intrigued that we could all talk together than he was with the proceedings, but that didn’t matter. Today, at noon, we experienced the results of all he had worked for during his extraordinary life, and for that I’m truly grateful.

Could the people who keep referencing this CHANGE, please define what the heck is going to change? Our new president sure has not done so yet. However he loved to throw that word around durning his running. Obama is ONE man and can not turn our economy around in one night. No matter what your stand is and how much “change” you think Obama is going to provide, the government will still bailout companies that should be left alone and take our tax money. It’s all relative in policitics! They just tell you what you want to hear while they are campaigning then it’s four-eight years of broken promises. Change-OK!!

I got chills watching Barack take the presidental oath and almost shed tears. However, it amazes me how people can be so hateful, but like it or not he is the PRESIDENT! Hopefully, in our instant gratification of a society, we will give him and his administration time to find their way and correct the wrongs of the last administration.

I had 2 black co-workers tell me they would vote for “Any Brotha, even if that MFer is in prison, so long as he be on the ticket.” I have no objections to his skin color, I object to his gross inability to do anything, he has done nothing but seek a higher job from each one he gets. He did nothing on congress. He is an empty suit. How many of these people who are having obamagasms today would be saying ” lets pull together, lets be united, lets support our president if McCain won? As for the klan remarks folks have said about my earlier remarks, hate to bust your bubble but I ain’t white. Some cry “people are losing ther homes and rich CEO’s are getting rich, that is because ceo’s did the right things and made the right decissions, people lose their homes because the have little to no job skills, no savings no back up plan and have more kids than they can feed. I have seen many people who have 3-4 kids by age 20-22, a POS for a car, a high school degree maybe. They runa ncash the pay check an friday instead of depositing it in the bank, They have a 50 inch plasma but no saving account, they have a $2000.00 set of rims on a $500.00 car but no 401k, they have 3k worth of hunting gear or a bass boat but no insurance for their kids, they have x-box 360 or wii but no emergency funds, they have 4 wheeler or go kart but thier kid needs braces, and every payday they get a bad of weed and 12 pack of beer a cartoon of smokes and a handful of lottery tickets but when they lose the house it the fault of the evil rich. Yeah right. You get oyt of life what you put in, I was raised 1 of 6 and dirt poor, I swore my kids would not be raised like I was and they are not. If you make bad decisions bad things happen , you make good decisions, good things happen, it is nobodies fault but yours.
