What are your inauguration plans?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In a few days, millions of people will watch as Barack Obama takes the oath of office to become the 44th president of the United States.
It will be a historic day as Obama becomes the first black president of one of the most powerful nations in the world.
Do you plan to watch the inauguration? If so, will it be from Washington, D.C. or the comfort of your home? Do you plan to take the day off to watch the inauguration at home or has your office made preparations to let workers to watch on the job?

I voted for the guy and I think he will be a good president, but I can’t imagine a worse reason to miss work than to watch a formal legal proceeding on television.

I am going to watch the inaguration at work, not at home. I will not take off work to watch it.
Going to DC at this time to watch it is not a great idea. Due to the fact that they will have so much security there (which they do need) and that nobody is allowed to take an umbrella or a large bag with them (which is very understandable).
If you are not cordially invited to attend then look forward to being crowded by millions of people.

My plans for “indoctrination day” include turning the TV to ESPN or the Home and Garden Channel or Discovery or anything but the news so I don’t have to put up with watching this charade. Maybe I’ll give Chad a call and get drunk with him - he sounds like he understands the trouble we’re all about to be in. Good luck, Pamela - you’ll need it!

Chad (and like-minded Republican sheep), We are already IN serious trouble!
Hundreds of $BILLION$ wasted and stolen by the FOB mafia (Friends of the Bushes). But this proves Bush was indeed “over-underestimated”. Only a genius could screw-up the economy of the entire world so completely. How could Obama (or for that matter the children’s new dog)do any worse??????

YOur right we are in real trouble. No longer will the Right wing, conservative, evangelical crazies control this government. Nor will the special interest groups like oil companies and banks be able to get into the Presidents pocket and torture the Average American public. What most idiots in this country forget is seperation of CHurch and State that is how the country was intended to run. The Bailouts, crash of wall street and the war gone wild is not Obama’s fault. Place the blame where it belongs on the GOP, conservative right wing crazies.

Jean, I can promise you my God does not live nor will He ever live at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
I hope President-elect Obama is able to live up the Messiah-like expectations you all have placed on him.
the clinging to guns and religion was a knock on Joe Biden. But nice job on bringing God and religion into the discussion. It wouldnt be a good AJC blog if we didnt argue about religion and Obama. Why dont you go ahead and bring out the race card and we can get that one out of the way early. Yes, he’s black. Well, half black, the other half white. So I guess at the end of the day, he’s just as black as he is white.

Dear No Fool,
When you say things like “Yes in deed, I going to the historic event” it just makes me giggle. Hey, Chad - do you have a trailer? I certainly don’t (unless you count the one outside my medical office with the portable MRI in it). I live over in Druid Hills and whatever I drink to forget about Indoctrination Day, it won’t be cheap beer. Sorry to burst your bubble, “No Fool”, but it sounds like you’ve been wearing your “ear-muffs” way too long - why don’t you take them off and listen to the music, baby! As I type this - I have to recall that everyone has an opinion. My race whether white or black it does not matter. - My opinion is in a parable. There was a man (white/black -dnm) who was in jail. The warden did not take great care of the prisoners (prisoners or not, they are people) - A new warden comes along with great ideas, great hopes, a whole new way of doing things. The only thing that was keeping this new guy from coming in to take over where the prisoners who would have rather seen an Indian change their conditions. Then there were the prisoners that did not care if he where white/black/Hispanic/Indian - with that, a vote was made. After the tallying of the votes - the one with the great ideas was handed the position. Even though the second group of prisoners did not want this new warden in town to take over - they also reaped the benefits of the change.

I always watch every inaugration. I think it should be a national holiday along with voting day. No wonder people in the US don’t take politics seriously.
It doesn’t matter who the President is that is being sworn in. It is still a historic event that all of US should be proud of no matter the politics. You can’t change it so you might as well be informed.

It must really suck to be a slave to MONEY and placing it at the center of your existence. It really MUST, because all these fools who all they can talk about is being worried someone is going to come and take their stinkin’ little MONEY from them!
I myself.. I make a pretty good living, we scratch the 6 figure household income level and all of that. But you know what?? I (we)don’t seem to care about my money all that much. I’m well satisfied with my modest home, the little savings we have, our outstanding credit ratings, the amount I’m able to contribute to the Church and help people and what we are able to give to our kids and their aspirations at this point. I’ve had investments, don’t mean a thing. Easy come, easy go (as I’ve learned recently with the economic crash). I work my little side endeavors…We’re not cold or hungry and we have our health, and motivation. For some strange reason, that’s enough for me.

Makes you wonder how many people will not pay rent or their car payments, yet spend money they don’t have to witness ‘history’. I care about as much about Obama’s inaguration as I did that of Bush. We’re making way too big a deal over one man being elected President. I can’t wait for this to be over and he starts doing the job he is sworn in to do and let’s see how many of the campaign promises he made come true. I think some folks are expecting way, way too much. Your lives won’t change, get over it.

Wow Worker I have a hard time understanding how you in your blindness could totally lose sight in all that I said. I and my wife work our @$$es off, so you really can’t tell me about the “fruits of one’s labor”. In addition to working in the very challenging Technology field I do a whole host of other things as side endeavors. My point is, it doesn’t matter to me. My people (Blacks) came over here and worked for generation after generation for no pay, and guess who STOLE their fruits?? I’ll give you 3 guesses. And by the way.. their (“thieve’s”)subsequent generations are still reaping the benefits through inheritances, land and “old money”, let’s not pretend.
..And people wonder in this country why Black folks are so mad about things..But again, I personally don’t have time to be mad about some stinkin’ MONEY, even though I work VERY hard for it. I’m guessing you might not understand where I’m coming from.

The guy is not God nor “the anti-christ”. He is just a man. Take it easy. Hopefully, he will do a good job. He is smart and he has already proven with his cabinet picks that he is willing to work with both Dems and Reps.
On the other hand, I was kind of hoping this would be the guy that would do away with all the tradition BS. Like the white house dog and pardoning turkeys on thanksgiving.
I would love to see the President say, “Yeah, no dog, no easter egg hunt, no turkey pardoning or entertaining at balls. I have work to do”

I will be praying for the unborn. The dream will not be realized Tuesday….to the contrary, the unborn’s worst nightmare begins. We will have the new national face of abortion of Tuesday. We must pray for his conversion because he believes that the the statement…”right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” should not include “life” first and foremost. How can anyone trust a man who is the most radical anti-life politician ever.
His main supporter will dictate his plans….Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood’s founder started this heinous organization to try and kill African American unborns. She admired and held the same views as Hitler. She was racist and her beliefs are coming true to form. She believed that you could destroy the African American community from within. Now, Obama bows to this organization. Did you know that 78% of Planned Parenthood abortion mills are in prodominantly African American and other minority cities? Disgusting! Did you know that 60% of abortions performed are done so on African American women? Almost 50% of African American babies die by abortion. Horrendous.
Now, don’t say there are other important issues. Obama has stated publicly that he will make the abortion issue his priority. He said it to a large gathering of who?…..That’s right Planned Parenthood. His appointments are anti-life legislators. Watch the inauguration if you want….me? I’ll be shedding tears all day thinking about the millions of babies will be murdered because of Obama’s radical abortion agenda.
How many deaths are too many? Is 50,000,000 enough? 50,000,000 babies have been killed since 1973. Obama brings hope? For Who? Not the Unborn!
Ask yourself one question…Is God Pro-Life or Pro-Choice (Pro Death)? You know the answer…no matter your verbal engineering in responding to the question.
Tuesday, January 20th..a Day Which Will live in Infamy…for all the wrong reasons. MLK and President Lincoln would not approve of Obama’s election. They were for civil rights of all….especially the unborn. In letters written in the Birmingham jail, MLK spoke out about the atrocities of abortion even back then. They would be siding with pro life supporters because before you can obtain the American dream….you have to be born. Funny how those already born seem to think its a “choice” to kill an unborn child. You were given the chance. How do we know that the first African American president wasn’t already formed in the womb long ago? Maybe that person was aborted? Sadly, we’ll never knwo until we face almighty God!
By the way what is meant by abortion in reality? Click the link to find out. If you don’t, what are you afraid of. Its real….and gut wrenching. Watch the video…you’ll never vote or support another abortion candidate again. What they do to the baby is barbaric! Its not OK, Obama! Its immoral…its murder! A baby is not a “punishment”…its a gift from God! All babies are Pro-Choice….they choose to live!

A baby is not a “punishment”…its a gift from God! All babies are Pro-Choice….they choose to live!

I will be one of the millions who find it significant enough to travel to DC to participate in the festivities. I will be taking some of my personal leave time off to do something that I personally want to do. To be able to see this in person is as important to me as going to a Georgia-Florida game for some others.
Different people appreciate and enjoy different activities, I just happen to want to participate in this one. For the record, this will not be my first inauguration, I have attended many throughout the years for municipal, state, and federal offices.
It is refreshing to see an election where the voters actually followed and participated from before the primaries all the way to the swearing in. The people of the United States have spoken, and they are willing to support their voice!!!

You know what? I didn’t vote for Obama either, but give it a rest. Obama is going to be our new President. So whether you agree with him or not, there’s nothing you can do about it now. Either try to make the best of the next four years or keep adding to the negativity and dividing attitudes that are really hurting our country too.

Hey Worker, please understand that my point was not about right or wrong as far as taking people’s money that they earn, rather about the idea of one placing so much stock in his or her material possessions and money that they are in a constant state of paranoia about someone “taking it away” from them. Personally I just view that as having misplaced priorities when it’s to the point that money becomes King in your life. And with many people in this country unfourtunately, it is. Like it has been often said, “never seen a U-Haul behind a hearse”…
..And don’t take too much from the ‘er’ on the end, it’s merely a play on the term, kinda like when you see on these blogs the word “librul”??…I am well capable of correct spelling and usage when I desire to be.

Jay’s correct - Revelation speaks of Obama (the beast) and the power he has over his people. We’re gonna need a lot of prayers I’m afraid.

So, all of a sudden, ‘dividing attitudes are hurting our country’? Where have you been the last eight years?

No, but hell no, will I be watching, I have worked hard all my life, for Bo, Reid, Pelosi, Dodd, and the rest to take it away. I will be praying for the next four years to go by swiftly. Then maybe, we can get someone in there that is not a salesman, or impersonator, of someone else, Lincoln, JFK, FDR, which one is he today. Question also are we going to pay his mother-in-law to be the nanny? The news media, boasted him up, the dems, backed him, and now we are paying. Wake up, America.

First of all, he’s NOT my President or will he ever be. This is a super sad day in US history that we all should fear. The next 9/11 is just around the corner now and we all need to be ready for the worst. The Democrats blame Bush for the economic downfall, but we all know it was the poor blacks that can’t do a simple budget that killed the housing market, it was the greedy wallstreet brokers that screwed us on the financial institutions around the world, and it was the terrorists that Clinton failed to kill while he was in office that caused 9/11. Yep..that’s W’s fault. PLEASE! The only thing I know for sure is that Jimmy Carter is going to be happy because when Obama becomes President over the Liberal/Socialist, Jimmy will no longer be the worst President in the world…Obama will be after only a few seconds. It’s just a disgrace to what has happened to this country and what Obama is about to do to it. I fear for my family and friends. Obama is going to destroy our lifes and that is for sure.

Wow. After reading all of these comments, the word that comes to mind is Sad. It’s sad that we just can not accept where we are and work together to improve the situation. What will always keep this nation from being the best it can is the people. So many people say they want the country to be a better place, when what you really want is your personal situation to be better. If we spend half the amount of time helping that we do hating, then we would not be where we are today. No one president has made this country perfect and no one president ever will. It is and has always been about us. Instead of yelling “it’s mine” why don’t you share? Instead of yelling that it’s “them”, ask what “we” can do to make it better.
For those praying to God to help us get out of this mess, that’s great, but remember, he helps those who help themselves… so what are “we” doing to better this country.
One thing I will say about this presidency, it that it has inspired me. If Obama needs me to give up a weeks pay a year to help others who are less fortunate which will ultimately help this country as a whole, he can have it. If he needs me to go out and volunteer for 20 hours to rebuild neighborhoods, I’m on it. So many of us forget that this life is so temporary and at any moment can be taken away.

This is so funny. I guess this board is in some ways therapeutic to many of you. Hope it goes as intended. For you “Closet Rebels” and “Bible Thumpers”, I would be scared too! Your days of control by fear and hate are coming to and end. The scariest part for you is not knowing who will separate from from the “control by fear” mentality. Will it start with your children, the friends they choose, or who they marry?
To answer the question, I will proudly be in D.C. as a native Georgian. I will do so using accumulated leave, from my full time job that I got after I obtained my college degree. The same leave that some of you use during the fall to go see UGA play football. The benefits of benefits. :-) Isn’t it great!

I’m not going to watch it. Why bother? Obama’s not some grand messiah coming to save the universe. He’s a politician, just like everyone else who is or has been in office.
Read “Atlas Shrugged”. That is where we’re going, where we already are. Democrats and Republicans are equally guilty in bringing us to this point. It’s been the Republican’s turn to screw up the country, now it’s the Democrat’s turn and anyone who thinks they’re going to come in and save the day has their head buried in denial.
I believe change is possible, but it doesn’t come packaged in a dark suit and red power tie on January 20th. The change this country needs will happen when people begin standing up for their liberties, when they begin taking personal responsibilities for their choices, and stop looking to other human beings to be their savior.
God knows what he’s doing, and our country is reaping what we’ve sown. But God is still love and he is always faithful to help us when we put our trust in HIM.

We will be celebrating! During the Reagan years, my brother routinely proclaimed with great satisfaction - regarding Reagan, “My President!”
Well, I’ve waited over twenty years… and will now proudly proclaim for the next eight years: “My President!” Barack Obama
God Bless him! THANK YOU, AMERICA!!!

I plan to avoid the fawning news coverage of the coronation that day. I really do not want to hear anymore how he will solve everyone’s problems, without mentioning that he is going to take money from some to give it to others in the process. I am willing to give him a chance, but his stimulus package already has given cause for concern.
I will let the day pass, and hope that America has enough sense to see through him ^if^ he proves to be as left-wing as we fear.

After I made my post on my plans, I read through the thread. You left-wingers are deluded folks and as a result your image of Obama has been distorted so far beyond reality that there is no way he can live up to your expectations. First there was the Tech Bubble, then the Housing Bubble, and now the Obama Expectations Bubble. Even if he does well, it cannot match these absurd expectations that he will solve all our problems. Look at how people are acting. You would think their team just won a Super Bowl or some other sporting event. People fawn over him like he was some Hollywood celebrity. I have never seen anything like it and it is frankly troubling. Here is a dose of reality folks: He is a politician like all the rest. If you have paid attention just since the election, you can already tell he not different from any of them. He may scream “Change” but a slogan on my oatmeal box sums him up: New look, same great taste!”
Bush was not perfect, but he certainly does not bear the total responsibility like some Obamaniacs believe. This alone will eventual lay waste to the expectations. The silver lining is that, when he fails to meet these unattainable expectations, I hope that it will disillusion the vast number of voters who treated this election like a season of American Idol and really don’t understand politics. When we clear them out, we can move on to 2012 with the rational voter base who will vote for politicians, NOT celebrities. We better hope that is how elections turn out, because if we keep approaching choosing people as important as our nation’s election officials with an American Idol mentality, this country and it heritage of freedom, liberty and self determination will be on death watch.

Wow, after reading all of this negative feedback about OUR PRESIDENT, its no wonder that this country is having problems. I too don’t like the concept that one man should be crowned and placed on a pedestal ( it spells doom everytime), but regardless of who was elected that person is still the President and that should be enough to garner the support from everyone. Not one Presidet has ever been able to do anything on his own, each and everyone of them has needed the people to support the policies put forth or to be good citizens and participate in the political process. Its the people of this country that will make or break it no matter who’s the President, if we can’t come together and get that right then we all need to ask for divine intervention.
The notion that black people will act any different now that Obama is President is carzy. That would destroy everything that people before us died for and everything that we are suppose to be proud of. The best thing everyone can do from now on is to honour your families, neighbors, communities, cities and your states and we can change that seat for the better.
