An extra second in 2008. How will you use it?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Think the new year might come too soon?
Not to worry.
Tonight, “international authorities charged with keeping precise time will add a single second to our lives,” according to an article in The New York Times. ” It will be the 24th ‘leap second’ since 1972, and the first since 2005.”
The Times’ article does a pretty good job of explaining leap seconds — something I won’t attempt here.
Doesn’t sound like much? Consider this: in a second a cheetah can run 34 yards and a telephone signal can travel 100,000 miles, according to the article.
Or look at it this way: An extra second gives you just enough time to gobble down another piece of chocolate or finish that apple martini.
What will you do with your extra second?

Adding a second to our “lives”? Wouldn’t that be an added second to the calendar instead? The media will twist just about anything. How can newspapers we believed when they publish crap like this?

Well it just figures that we would need to add a second to this year. The year of Death and Dismemberment gains more time…ughhhhhhhhh!

ARe you kidding me? This is meant to be a “light-hearted” topic. Lighten up everybody! I will spend my “extra” second kissing in the New Year!
