Looking for humor in gas shortage

Even though Gov. Sonny Perdue had asked the federal government to release crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to ease the gas crunch concerns, problems in metro Atlanta are expected to continue for the next few days if not a week.

Until then would you like to see — as some stations have already done — impose a limit to how much gas motorists can buy at anyone time? No one expects it to get as bad as the oil embargo of the 1970s.

But if you want to take a walk on the humorous side what other alternative plans can you come up with to ease the pain at the pump: Alternative days for Georgia Bulldogs vs. Yellowjackets fans? Republicans on Mondays and Wednesdays, Democrats on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Libertarians on Fridays?

I think there should be three measures implemented. 1) Place a max on the # of gallons delivered per visit, say 10. 10 gals is enough to fill most cars to 1/2-3/4 of a tank. 2) Have attendants check the fuel level of a person’s car. Anyone over half a tank should be asked to leave. 3) Governor should require parents to put their kids on the bus instead of taking them to school if the parent is non-working. It’s pretty sad that parents wait 50-100 cars deep to drop off their kids. What a waste of fuel.

The current problem will be over by the end of next week. The real issue is will this experience vault all of us forward to eliminate use of gas? I doubt it. We will react to the more serious problem when we are about out and then it will not be a laughing matter.

Perhaps Sonny could come home and have a real talk about a public rail system! ATL will continue to be a joke of a big city without a rail service that actually goes to more places than the airport.

Maybe we could all go to Europe with Sonny? It might be the only way we’ll ever see his face.

I agree. A rail system that works (Like the UK) would be wonderfull here. The tracks are already in place. Lease them from CSX am and pm and start an end to this mess.

Governor Goober asks for additional crude from the strategic reserve???? Can someone please let him know we don’t burn crude in our cars? It’s not a crude issue, Gov; it’s a refining and supply issue! No wonder he didn’t immediately ask for an EPA clean fuel variance.

That’s it Kramer. We need more people, particularly the government, to tell us what to do. We’ve seen how those types of governments have worked in the past (East Germany, Russia, etc.). Yep our current governments done such a good job with everything that’s on the table right now, lets just give them full control. The Governor’s in Europe on vacation (excuse me, working) with his select friends and made the parting shot last week that the fuel shortage is caused by panic. Well, he’s an idiot. And our congress, well they can’t make a decision without concern on how it will be perceived. They don’t do what’s best for us, just what’s ultimately best for their future. These morons won’t do the “right” thing, just what’s best for their ability to preserve themselves in their aristocratic cocoon. It’s really a shame that Lenin and Stalin didn’t get the chance to see how well their form of government is doing in modern day America. No thanks, I’ll make my own decisions!

People with money !

Well they have controlled life of everyone, they did not want mass transit to develop in their communities. We all pay the price now. One with tons of money does need to refil his car too I guess!

Stupidest way a democracy could work. Look side ways when it comes to average citizen.

Shame on our hypocracy and shame on our so called leaders.

This gas crisis is even affecting Lovey and I - we had to pay the chauffeur overtime because he was in line for 3 hours waiting to top off the tank in the Benz. The Rolls and the Bentley have about a half tank each so I think we’ll be OK to go out on our Sunday afternoon drive this week but it was touch-and-go there for awhile.

When are we going to phase out these giant gas guzzling SUV’s? I waited in line for gas the other day and some guy with a Tahoe stood there for 20 minutes filling up his stupid tank. and he had driven it here all the way from Oregon! Even minivans get low to mid 20 mpg. An SUV is lucky to break into double digits on their mileage. I remember a friend from out of town saying to me in the mid 90’s “are you required to drive an SUV if you live in Atlanta?” I mean what worse place to have one than the one of the most traffic choked cities in the world that requires you drive 15 miles anywhere you want to travel?

Kramer I NEVER see 100 cars when I drop my kid off at school…maybe 25, but certainly not 100. AND the majority of those vehicles are CARS, no SUVs.

And the school busses are way to crowded now. Three to a seat. No thanks, I’ll drive my kid. I get more time with her in the mornings….

I’m not sure which is funnier:

-the idea that “if Obama is elected we’ll soon be answering to the Chinese” (as if we’re not already thanks to Republican economic policies);

-the idea that a little temporary gas rationing would be creeping socialism (we did it during WWII);

-the idea that school buses are unsafe (the lowest accident rates of any surface transportation other than rail); or

-all these people who can’t spell the plural of “bus” (“busses” are kisses).

Anyway, I’m enjoying the walk, in this beautiful weather, to and from MARTA as I commute.
