Delta reports $6.4 billion loss

Delta Air Lines reported a $6.4 billion loss in the first quarter, due to a huge jump in fuel prices and a decline in the carrier’s market value.

The airline lost $274 million, or 69 cents a share, in the first quarter in its day-to-day operations, according to an article by AJC reporter Jim Tharpe. Analysts expected a loss of 49 cents a share, excluding one-time items.

But Delta, which recently announced plans to merge with Northwest Airlines, also reported a $6.1 billion non-cash charge relating to the decline in Delta’s market value due to sustained record fuel prices.

Delta, like other carriers, is also worried about a weak economy, which could cut into passenger demand.

What do you think about the latest news from Delta? Are higher ticket prices making you rethink flying? Are you an employee and worried about your job?

Yall are funny :)

The latest news on Delta does not surprise me, but I didn’t realize it would be that much of a loss: 6.4 billion is a lot of money.

I am not a frequent flyer so increases in ticket prices wouldn’t affect me, but I do hope my friends that work for Delta are okay. I would not want to lose a job right now. $4 a gallon is weeks away…

You think Delta’s got it bad, look at AirTranica. They’re stopping growth and that’s a sure sign from a low-cost airline that they’re going to be struggling. They also do not have a lot of cash on hand relative to other carriers. Lakayla, it’s ok. Hillarious and Obrama will soon be in DC to pull us through.

Hey LaKayla. Speaking of Ludacris did you know he is opening “Straits Atlanta”, bringing Singaporean cuisine to the ATL? The restaurant is the fourth of its kind: Ludacris’ partner in the venture, Chef Chris Yeo, owns three other restaurants in the Straits brand in San Francisco, San Jose and Burlingame, California. Straits Atlanta will further incorporate Georgian ingredients into the menu. The upscale $2.7 million dollar restaurant will open in Midtown Atlanta, in a building purchased by Ludacris nearly one year ago. Ludacris has also invested almost $1,000,000 dollars into renovating the building. Two more restaurants are in the works.

Now THAT’S LUDACRIS!!!!

Does anybody else equate the downturn in the economy to the Dawgs getting screwed out of the BCS National Title Game? Hopefully, next year when they win it all the economy will pick up.

GO DAWGS! Sic’em Woof, Woof, Woof!!!

if Georgia would’ve have beaten Tennessee maybe they would have had their shot. Quit whining!! As for your Delta, stupid execs, did they really think they would be the biggest airline forever. Dumb baffoons should have thought that Continental/United merger on horizon along with American/USair coming to push them back down to 3 struggling while my industry based in Houston continue bleeding them dry!!! LOL

If the dems and environmental whacko’s didn’t block drilling in ANWAR and the building of more refineries, we wouldn’t have to depend so much on the middle east and venuzuela for oil.

If you think B-HO is going to solve all of the nations problems with empty promises for HOPE and CHANGE, think again. He can’t do anything about the price of oil.

You know as a George W. Bush voter it was Mccain’s fellow partner who is responsible for these high prices!! Not Barrack Hussein Obama!! Blame Bush, Cheney, and the Republicans like myself who will flip flop this election!!
