Love songs
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Love is in the air… or on the air, if you listen to the radio. Love songs are a staple of popular music, with enough titles to fit just about any romantic occasion. What’s the song that comes to your mind when you’re in the mood to spoon beneath the moon in June? What are you likely to sing to your sweetie when you give him or her a Valentine’s card today? Tell us your favorites, and why you think they’re the best.

Without a doubt, THE best love song ever is ‘I Won’t Hold You Back’ by Toto (from the multi-Grammy winning ‘Toto IV’ CD).
Granted, the song is about a difficult break up, but we musn’t forget that Valentine’s Day is sometimes just as much about love that’s been lost as it is about love that’s been found.
I Won’t Hold You Back is full of some of the most heartfelt lyrics you’ve ever heard, and if the keyboards and strings don’t get to ya then you have no heart, so celebrating Valentine’s Day wouldn’t do you much good anyway. :-)

Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye
Baby I’m hot just like an oven I need some lovin’ And baby, I can’t hold it much longer It’s getting stronger and stronger And when I get that feeling I want Sexual Healing Sexual Healing, oh baby Makes me feel so fine Helps to relieve my mind Sexual Healing baby, is good for me Sexual Healing is something that’s good for me Whenever blue tear drops are falling And my emotional stability is leaving me There is something I can do I can get on the telephone and call you up baby, and Honey I know you’ll be there to relieve me The love you give to me will free me If you don’t know the things you’re dealing I can tell you, darling, that it’s Sexual Healing Get up, Get up, Get up, Get up, let’s make love tonight Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, Wake up, ‘cos you do it right

The best love song is Before the Next Tear Drop Falls. It is a love song to a woman who is with another man.
If he brings you happiness then I wish you both the best It’s your happiness that matters most of all But if he ever breaks your heart If the teardrops ever start I’ll be there before the next teardrop falls I’ll be there anytime you need me by your side To dry away every teardrop that you cried And if he ever makes you blue Just remember I love you And I’ll be there before the next teardrop falls
I’ll be there anytime you need me by your side To dry away every teardrop that you cried And if he ever leaves you blue Just remember I love you And I’ll be there before the next teardrop falls I’ll be there before the next teardrop falls I’ll be there before the next teardrop falls.
It is a story of true, unselfish love where the man has put the happiness of the woman above his own. It was my song to my X-girlfriend, who is now my beautiful wife of twenty-seven years.

What It Takes by Aerosmith …
There goes my old girlfriend
There’s another diamond ring
And, uh, all those late night promises
I guess they don’t mean a thing
So baby, what’s the story?
Did you find another man?
It is easy to sleep in the bed that we made?
When you don’t look back I guess
The feelings start to fade away
I used to feel you fire
But now it’s cold inside
And you’re back on the street
Like you didn’t miss a beat, yeah
Tell me what it takes to let you go
Tell me how the pain’s supposed to go
Tell me how it is that you can sleep in the night
Without thinking you lost everything that was good
In your life to the toss of the dice
Tell me what it takes to let you go

Hey Laura - Did you get married in the 70’s? I did, and we played/sang Annie’s Song at my wedding too. That brings to mind one by John Denver that I’d never heard until recently - “Perhaps Love” sung as a duet with Placido Domingo. Beautiful…

Cari: My parents danced at their wedding to “All The Way.” It’s a great song. Also like “Night and Day,” the slow Sinatra version.
But for me, - “Let’s Get it On,” Marvin Gaye (can lead to more than spooning!) - “True Companion,” Marc Cohn - “Overjoyed,” Stevie Wonder

Too many to name. So little love, so many love songs. 1. At Last — Etta James 2. All I Do (Is Think About You) — Stevie Wonder 3. Truly — Lionel Richie 4. Adore — Prince 5. If This World Were Mine — Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn 6. If I Can’t Have You — Yvonne Eilmann (Or is this a stalking song?!) 7. The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face — Roberta Flack 8. A Song For You — Donny Hathaway 9. When I Give My Love This Time — Phyllis Hyman 10. Angel — Anita Baker And I have to include that song from Family Ties — “At This Moment” by Billy Vera and the Beaters — as an honorable mention for my top 10.

There are LOTS of GREAT love songs,
Baby, I’m amazed by you - Lonestar
Maybe I’m amazed - Paul McCartney
I love you - Climax Blues Band
Come away with me - Nora Jones (this was sung at our wedding celebration. - We eloped on a mountain top, and had a celebration the following month)
Ice Cream - Sara McGlaugin (spelling)
I agree with the poster who stated Toto’s I won’t hold you back is a great song if you have suffered a painful break-up.
Some GREAT songs for seduction:
You make me feel love - Paula Cole Songbird - Kenny G Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye
As a side note - there are some songs that should NEVER be remade. Shame, shame, SHAME on Michael Bolton for remaking Sexual Healing, Georgia on my Mind, and Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.
You just don’t mess with a classic!!

I would have to say R&B’s number one crooner The Late Great Luther Vandross has many songs that could go for this title, but “So Amazing” sticks out in my mind! Also his duet with the late Gregory Hines, “There’s Nothing Better Than Love”. Among his other greats are: Here and Now, Make Me a Believer, If Only for One Night, A House is Not a Home”. I could go on with his list. Long Live Luther Vandross!

With some of these songs you are listing, I see why y’all ain’t getting any action. Love songs are When A Man Loves A Woman by Percy Sledge, For Your Precious Love by Jerry Butler, These Arms Of Mine by Otis Redding, Reasons by Earth Wind & Fire, Anything by Larry Graham or Barry White*. Those are the kind of songs that bring down the drawers. Guns & Roses couldn’t get a 2 dollar hooker to say yes, even if you had a sawbuck in your hand.
