Where can you get the best pulled pork in and around Atlanta?

We have our winners.

It was a close race, but readers put Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q in the lead in the final hours of voting. Everyone raves about their beef brisket, but the folks at Fox Bros. smoke some mighty fine pig. Take a look at the complete list of your picks for pulled pork supremacy.

As for our picks, dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman put the readers’ No. 2 pick in the top spot. Pig-N-Chik was a very close second to Fox Bros. in the voting, but it gets the edge in our picks. Check out our pulled pork pantheon.

Wallace’s BBQ in Austell, GA simply has the best pulled pork sandwich and Wallace’s Brunswick stew just melts in your mouth. Our family won’t go anywhere else. Two thumbs up for them.

Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q is a family owned business where you can see the meat as they smoke it. You can see the quality of the food they are serving you before it hits your plate. Their homemade barbecue sauce is great for everything. You can take home a gallon. The “chain” barbecue restaurants can’t hold a candle to the truly fresh-made on-site food you are served.

Hometown Barbecue, Hwy. 29, Lawrenceville, GA has excellent tender pulled pork. Nice rich charred flavor with just the right balance of smoky sweetness. They offer up two kinds of sauce but it’s best savored without it.

The Best pizza in Atlanta comes from Finni’s. They have 2 locations in Gwinnett County. One on Duluth Highway and the other one on Peachtree Street. Take it from a New Yorker. My family drives down from South Carolina, armed with his pizza bag and gets Finni’s pizza to take back with him. Try their party sized pizza for game day. (bring a truck to pick it us)

Pig N Chik…..hands down!

By Shanes?

February 18, 2009 2:33 PM | Link to this

Shanes Rib Shack? Really? Where is the fire? Where is the hickory wood for smoking? Shanes is NOT BBQ. It is not possible to have the best pulled pork without actually smoking the pork. To smoke the pork you must have wood and a fire, which Shanes does not. That was really getting to me. Anyway, Pig N Chick…BY FAR!

By Shanes

February 18, 2009 2:50 PM | Link to this

Yes, SHANES! Shanes has smokers and uses hickory wood to smoke their meat onsite. You need to get edumacated!

By Chuck

February 18, 2009 5:10 PM | Link to this

Shane’s uses electric smokers with a few hickory chips for flavor… obviously, not many. It’s all very prefab. Their sauce is okay though, and most people think BBQ is all about sauce… sadly.

By Levi

February 18, 2009 5:23 PM | Link to this

Hard and fast rule: if you can pull up to a place and don’t see piles of wood and don’t smell smoke, there’s no barbecue inside.

And Fresh Air BBQ is great, but it’s a long drive for a small sandwich. Next time, I get it by the pound.

By Chuck
