Where can you get the best pizza in and around Atlanta?

We have our winners.

Your pick was a chain, but it’s a beloved institution that began right here in Atlanta. Georgia Tech students started winner Mellow Mushroom back in the 1970s, and there are now franchises in 14 states with more to come. There’s no denying that a Mellow Mushroom pie is superior to the cardboard coasters with cheese that you’ll find at your average chain joint. Check out the rest of your picks.

Dining critic Meridith Ford Goldman chose the glorious pies at Fritti in Inman Park. It’s tough to resist the fresh beauties served up at Riccardo Ulllio’s casual, convivial grazing spot. Check out all of our picks.

I like Pepperoni’s Tavern on Old Milton. Get the Parmesan crust. Nancy’s in Buckhead has a wonderful deep dish. LOVE the sauce! Maybe the best pizza sauce I’ve ever had.

Rosa’s is good; I just prefer Chicago-style over NY. I’ll have to give Savage a try to see what the fuss is about. Always up for a great tasting pizza!

Fortunato’s Pizzeria in Smyrna. Best Pizza and calzones on NW side of town! I’m hesitant to vote because this is a great local hangout and part of the appeal is it’s “undiscovered” nature. Great patio in the spring and summer time, too.

What are you people talking about? If you are a fan of NY Style pizza (the best variety their is) Cameli’s off of Ponce is the closest you can get to famous Ray’s. The sauce has a bit of garlic, the cheese is perfect and the crust has the requisite crispness—-perfect for folding and eating. Nothing in the area comes close!

Fourtunato’s in Smyrna is the closet thing to really great NY/Philly style pizza. Crust thin but chewy, and flavorful. Sauce tangy. Just the right amount of cheese. Always perfrctly cooked. Love these pizzas. Love. Them.

Take it from an ex-NYer, Rosas is the closest to NY pizza that you can get. And for those of you who don’t know, pizza was introduced to America in NY. If the pizza has anything other than a thin crust, olive oil, a little sauce and lots of cheese, it ain’t pizza. Deep dish doesn’t even rate! By the way, Mellow Mushroom sucks big time!!!!!!!!

Saporito’s in Marietta on Roswell Rd has been our favorite since we discovered it. It’s the closest to our favorite NJ Pizza and, imagine this, they are from NJ !!! Native Georgians don’t know what REAL pizza is, but even though our kids were born here they apparently have NJ genes because they love it best, too!
